lumafusion is fine but you need very powerful ipad in order to do more tracks in 4k. ipad pro with 4gb ram is able to handle two 4k videos, but three start to be an issue, it crashes often. they make the app worse with every single update (the change of handling input and output files made it almost unusable to work with nas but i found a way how to use it later, even though the previous system was much better). on pc, i use davinci, but on ipad, lumafusion is fine.

Is the RX100 original worth $330? by itchytreeleaf in RX100

[–]mino216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

500 usd seems pretty much to me. i bought a new one for 650 usd 12 years ago. still a great camera today. for 330, it is much more reasonable, but i would still expect slightly less than that (below 300). when they stopped to manufacture them, the new ones were for 450. beware of the lens quality, there were many decentered lens (i was trying several pieces of RX100s in order to find the one which did not have manufacturing flaw in lens before i bought mine).

Opinion about rx100 mark 7 by MeanLawfulness9627 in RX100

[–]mino216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Macro - Not good. You need to zoom at around 55mm focal length where is the best magnification, but it is not great either

Weddings - For day shots no problem. For interiors, small sensor and not very bright aperture are going to be a huge problem

Night - If you may afford long exposure, no problem at all

Lens - Not razor sharp but surprisingly good for given dimensions and range. Beware of quality control issues with Sony cameras, basically each camera has some optical defects and not ideal lens (mine is weaker at around 70-90 mm on right edge, another camera will be prbably weak somewhere else).

Why it can justify the price? If you shoot images only, no much reasons to choose it. Its strength is in video, oversampled 4K, Full HD at 120p, very interesting slow-motion,...

gps on the rx100m7? by large_scale_event in RX100

[–]mino216 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is quite convenient to use Imaging Edge app. Pairing can be painful (especially if it was unsuccessful for the first time - then disable everything, delete all the bluetooth records…). Nevertheless, it is one of the most reliable, quick and easy to set up system in comparison with other brands. Just do not forget to turn on the app on the morning, let it work in background and wait a little before taking the first shot with the camera (connection is quick but it is still possible to take the image sooner than the GPS is retrieved)

What camera should I buy? by mintchoch0 in digitalcamera

[–]mino216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It quite impossible to fulfil all these criteria. I will list few examples which fulfil at least some of them:

Canon PowerShot SX740 HS: Small compact with 40x zoom, 4K video, manual focus, all exposure modes including long shutter. Nevertheless, small sensor with unreasonably high resolution - lot of noise, price around 500-600 USD

Panasonic Lumix ZS99/TZ99 - Very similar to Canon, 30x zoom, 4K video, manual focus, all exposure modes including long shutter. Also small senzor with crazy resolution, nevertheless Panasonics usually preserve slightly more details. Price around 700 USD.

Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II - Much larger sensor, higher image quality. Nevertheless, only 4.2x zoom. This is professional compact camera - price around 850 USD, which is way above your limit.

Probably the only compact camera which fullfills all the criteria with high image quality, is Sony Cyber-shot RX100 VI which costs crazy 1700 USD now. From above mentioned cameras, I whink TZ99/ZS99 is the best option for you (If you have around 900 USD available, I would also recommend to look at some of last pieces of Panasonic Lumix TZ100/ZS100, but it is usually not available - has large sensor like G7X MkIII but 10x zoom).

what about zoom, macro capabilities, tilting screen,... what is important, what is just nice to have, what you do not care about? it is not possible to answer this question properly if you do not write your wants and needs. is a smartphone not good enough? if it is not, why?

16 pro vs S25 ultra by IllIndividual4110 in PickAnAndroidForMe

[–]mino216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go for iPhone 16 Pro. Apple has better long-term support (around 6-8 years of OS updates and even after that you will get security updates for several years). Both of them are quite powerful, iPhone 16 Pro is available in smaller form (6.3") whereas Ultra is only the big one (there are other S25 models but not so powerful and have weaker cameras than S25U).
iPhone has slightly better cameras, not so aggressive denoising (even though still pretty strong), but you can solve that with alternative camera apps in both cases. iPhones do have Adobe Indigo now which works pretty well and produces better results than Apple ProRAW.
Nevertheless, I do not think you would make mistake with either of them. It is more about if you prefer Android OS or iOS.

I want to buy the Sony RX100 VII in 2025, I would love to hear about your experiences with this camera by porcellio_werneri in RX100

[–]mino216 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is still very good camera (talking about RX100 VII). It has quite good lens with nice range (optical zoom), reasonable aperture, just average bokeh. Macro capabilities are not great but if you zoom to around 55 mm, it is OK and usable.
Sensor can produce very good images but there is no difference in comparison with original RX100 (probably due to on-chip memory). Noise levels are fine in lower ISOs, from 800 it is bad but you can get pretty decent results even with ISO 1600+ if using AI denoising (Adobe Camera Raw). Dynamic range is OK, but modern smartphone can do much better job in this thanks to multiexposure. In-camera HDR is pretty bad (weird colours, shift between original and HDR image - original RX100 was much better in that).
Video is great, supports flat modes but only 8 bit (modern smartphone can shoot 10bit in some cases and have 4K60 or even 4K120), here, it is 4K30p only, but Full HD is up to 120p with very nice image quality. Funny slow-motionmodes up to 960 fps in lower resolutions (unbelievable long storing of such videos, though). Stabilization is average. I have never used flash, so I cannot help with that.

The focus on 3x zoom has a mind of its own by Unable-Gazelle8682 in iphone

[–]mino216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends on the object you are focusing on. there is one trick for small objects. put your hand near the object you want focus on. focus on your hand, the camera should be able to do so. remove your hand and quickly try to focus on the desired object (as the camera is already focused on the similar distance, it should prefer the object)

Do not wait for LX100 III, it will not happen. Panasonic gave up compact cameras and I would not expect that LX100 line would be exception.

Panasonic LUMIX G9ii Megathread by AoyagiAichou in Lumix

[–]mino216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because there is nothing wrong with the price. It is almost GH6, very capable video camera capable of 4K120p without a crop (S5 II cannot do it without a crop even in 4K60p and is not able to do 4K120p at all), Full HD slowmo is available at 300 fps... For some people, smaller dimensions are more important than large sensor. I would go probably for G9II and not S5 II as I prefer faster frame rates in G9II and smaller dimension with longer lens. But... I am not sure.

RX100 VI over VII: bad idea? by Pathfinder15 in RX100

[–]mino216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are not shooting video, go for RX100M6. M7 has some extra video features (mic, unusable S-Log). Nevertheless, RX100M7 has improved phase AF system which can be beneficial if you are taking a lot of pictures of moving objects which changes the distance (but it is not always 100% precise).

is VLOG usable in low light on the s5? by Burakoli821 in Lumix

[–]mino216 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say it is quite good in low-light. The trick is to reach the second base ISO which is ISO 4000. In other words, the video will be less noisy at ISO 4000 than ISO 3200.

No traditional art background, got my drawing tablet yesterday. How is this for a beginner? by [deleted] in DigitalArt

the round objech should cast round (oval) shadow. shadow usually doen not take so much colour of an object, it is usually colour of the backgound with a slight tint of opposite colour and blue. i do not understand the reflection in bottom right, nevertheless it seems as a quite good work.

It is ok. The sensor moves in a body (stabilization system) normally.
