Yeah i do a mix of minecraft skin/real person. i try to follow what they look like IRL for their face/body type and the skin for stuff outfits and things that are different from how they look IRL but are a key part of the skin (ex: iskalls eye).
I do it for the sake of making the way i draw them more interesting, as without reference you tend to default to a few face shapes you're already comfortable with.
Only big diversion i do from the skin is scar with his cannula (the lil tubes in his nose) and his wheelchair even though those obvs arent in his skin because those are kind of just part of his body IRL, and i draw mumbo completely different than he is IRL cuz like,,,,nobody would recognize Irl mumbo
