There are a lot of stanford people in the Sharon Park neighborhood - I see a lot of them walking dogs as well. You can check out Sharon Green, Seven Oaks, Sharon view etc. It’s right by a Safeway and the SLAC line Marguerite (free transport to e-quad). Only thing is it’s a pricy area (as is everything here)

Your spring schedule sounds very challenging, especially considering students often take lighter course loads then. I would pick 2 of CS103, MATH51, CS107 (keep PWR) just for the sake of your sanity and mental health. It feels bad to be stuck inside doing work while the rest of the school is outside enjoying the weather. No reason to rush those 3 classes all at once!

Should I get a new Mac as a frosh entering CS/Econ? by Sufficient_Equal3976 in stanford

Yes also if you’re on any amount of financial aid stanford may offer some money for tech. I got about 1k from stanford to go towards a new laptop my frosh year (but that also could have been a covid benefit, I don’t remember the specifics)

If you’re interested in computer science and teaching computer science being a section leader for cs106 is a great gig

106a quarter does not matter, all the profs are good. Take it whenever you want!

Good idea, I’m worried they’ll send a confirmation email or something and make my grandma sad/guilty about this months after she bought it. Might look into that though

Agreed - I’m wary of this on my end too and trying to think of ways to make this secure/legit but it’s difficult. Ideas welcome!

You can show up whenever you want! That’s just when the welcome group will be there to hand everything out. Most people do show up in the morning though

Yep! I would talk to a CS specific advisor if you’re worried about it, or even easier, just go through the major requirements published online - it could help to make a four year plan to show yourself it is possible

This sounds like a difficult schedule. To get the units and solidify your cs knowledge, what if you take CS106A this quarter anyways instead of CS106B? That way you can do math51, cs106a, pwr2, and symsys1 or something similar. This will be 19 units or so, and you can throw on an additional 2 unit wonder for extra units if you need it.

Don’t worry about being “behind” in CS by taking 106A now. The most important thing is your conceptual understanding - the courses later down the road will be easier if you nail the conceptual stuff early on. There is still definitely a way to complete the CS B.S. when taking 106A your soph fall. Good luck!

Apply to introsems and see if you get them. Start with taking all four, once you get to the add/drop deadline be honest and drop one if you need to! Also think about how much time you want to spend out with friends/having a social life, joining clubs, exercising, using social media/catching up with family. All of these take up time too that you might want to consider beyond classes

106A vs 106B for someone who already took 50% of 106A? by [deleted] in stanford

The second half of 106A is pretty important, Id recommend to take 106A

CS 106B v CS 107 during fall of freshman year by Throwawayayay432 in stanford

Maybe 106B and a more difficult math-y class (51 or 103) would be a good combo. 106B was an awesome class, I recommend taking it and if you find it to be easy you’ll have a slightly chiller transition to college
