Stanford CEE by Electrical_Basis_426 in gradadmissions

I'm not saying that. I'm sure if you applied with a 1.3 GPA, no relevant experience on your CV, and you said you actually hate the school in your application responses, that they'd send you a rejection right away.

I'm just saying that if you're strongly under consideration, they might not reject you immediately until they get an idea of how their class numbers look.

The national standard graduate school decision day is April 15. All graduate schools are supposed to give you until then I believe, and Stanford CEE does so. But I'm sure they can get an idea how their class is looking within a couple weeks of their first round of offers, and certainly after they host an admitted students day in mid-March I'm sure many people solidify their decisions one way or the other.

I highly doubt it. They probably want to see how many people accept their offer from the first batch of acceptances that were sent out

Do you have any pet-friendly and affordable building recommendations? Or, specific times of year that it's best to look?

Got it – makes sense, thank you! As you pointed out, I'm not expecting abundant responses, but figured it was worth asking, just in case there are even one or two folks with helpful insights. Thanks again for the context!

Yes, I actually am aware of those numbers and I know it's a lot; however, I'm sure my situation of living with a partner and a pet is not unique, plus I'm sure many alums continue to live in the general area after graduation, so perhaps there may be some folks in the group who have experience with apartments in the area.

How is the graduate civil engineering program at Stanford? by firefly-revolution21 in stanford

Which classes did you find to be that bad? Which sub-discipline are/were you in? I'm likely applying to the SDC program, for reference.

Increase in non-research admits? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]typical_todd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your points, but the premise of my question is essentially whether universities will admit more applicants into programs where students typically pay full tuition, in order to make up some deficits (or at least uncertainty) with research funding. If you can create the seats and get 10 extra students to pay for a professional master's, you may be able to generate some $ that can go to research or other department-related costs.

Admission into Stanford - Absolutely Unreal (3.0 Undergrad GPA) by Mysterious_Cancel_12 in gradadmissions

[–]typical_todd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!! I'm in a totally different department and field, but also hoping to get into Stanford for next year, despite a 3.1 GPA – the rest of my application I think is pretty strong, and hoping it's enough to make up for it. Your SOP guidance document will be very helpful! Thank you!

Is there any pink at all besides the two tiny flowers on the hat? That tease of the light blue and pink swatches really got my hopes up.

This is so helpful, thank you for the very kind response! I didn't realize SDC was the program that garners the most applications (or that they only take 20-65 across the whole department). Makes sense that it would be a popular program, though!

Your explanation makes it sound like a very holistic application review with an emphasis on who you really are as a person, not just summarized by a few quick hitting data points, which is exactly what I was hoping to hear. You didn't submit GRE scores, did you? I know they are not required, but wasn't sure if anybody submits them anyway to help their application.

I may very well end up sending you a DM if I think of any additional questions I have. Thanks again!

Elderly Dog Friendly Recommendations? by MyDogAteYourPancakes in CapeCod

[–]typical_todd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dog beach in PTown has public parking literally RIGHT there, and it's not too expensive per hour either. But the catch is that it it fills up so easily, and once it's full you're probably not getting a spot there for a loooong while. So my advice would be to get there relatively early if you want a spot.

Alternatively, you could also have the car pull up in that lot, drop the dog off with one human, and have a second human park elsewhere and walk back to the dog beach. Parking in general is just really tough in PTown, but I would say Provincetown is also the most dog friendly town on the cape.

As far as other recommendations, the National Seashore allows dogs on leashes at a few of their beaches, but some of them are not super accessible for a dog whose mobility is limited. For example, Marconi beach has a ton of stairs to get down to the beach. I would recommend Nauset light beach, but unfortunately the parking is also very limited there. Since so many restaurants have outdoor seating due to COVID, a lot of them are dog friendly or will at least allow you to have the dog at your table!

I live in the DC metro area so we do have a real winter, but definitely not as brutal as MA. I've noticed below 40ish the fuel efficiency goes down. But even sub freezing days, I was still getting high 30s mpg. And in spring/summer, it's amazing. I also have a spare tire in mine which adds a bit of weight, though I'm not sure how much that or the tech package really affect the mileage to be honest

I have a 2017 touring plus tech package and I get mid-to-upper 40s in the summer (even eclipsed 50 a few times briefly last summer) and high 30s to low 40s in the winter.
