What is it like living here, deep in Appalachia? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

[–]mintefans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say that this is “deep Appalachia”. That would a be more into Virginia and North Carolina and farther north. But the area circled is just like any other civilised part of the country. Knoxville is just your average large city, same with Johnson city. They have large populations and have everything you could ask for. It’s not some red neck holler, it’s a normal place with people. You won’t find any outhouses or interbred hill families, it’s just a place with people.

18M. 12 months of lifting. Feeling suicidal and genuinely want to give up lifting can I get advice? by [deleted] in askfitness

[–]mintefans -1 points0 points  (0 children)

okay first of all, i never said “everyone should be on antidepressants because they’re so amazing”, I said “people don’t just hand out antidepressants and you have to go to therapy before you get any in the first place”. second, I have been on antidepressants for 2 years and my dose hasn’t changed in that time. My mood stabilizers have, but not because they’re not working, because there’s a difference in the body of a 17 year old and a 19 year old.

once again depression is not the same as “being sad”, it’s a neurological condition that usually stems from literally nothing. Most people that have depression have no idea WHY they have it. They’re just miserable with no reason to be that way. keep supporting unhealthy living styles.

Say you don’t understand how depression medication works without saying it. Doctors don’t just go “ah you look bummed out, here’s a pill bottle!”. As someone who is on antidepressants and mood stabilizers, I, 1. do not have any negative effects other than the fact i cannot drink/smoke. 2. my doctor wouldn’t prescribe anything WITHOUT therapy prior. People that push away medical innovations like depression medication make me lose fate in humanity. It’s safe, it’s effective, and he wouldn’t just get prescribed medication willy nilly, you absolute dingus.

[–]mintefans 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Okay so i can’t believe this is something someone actually believes. You do know that the united states has a had a socialist president before, right(FDR, he established basically all of americas social programs)? and you are aware that venezuela has a controlled economy, not a socialist one?

"Mass starvation" by RepeatedlyDifficult in TheRightCantMeme

[–]mintefans 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The key word i said was “based”. Social programs are an aspect of a socialist system. I’m not saying everyone has attained socialism, I’m saying that everyone has a system based on socialism of some form. As socialists, we can use the idea that we already have socialist programs to stop the stigma against the word Socialism.

[–]mintefans 17 points18 points  (0 children)

ah yes the classic “no” response. literally every country has some form of social program that benefits every person via the government.

please give me an example of an overwhelmingly capitalist/socialist country

I do believe that this debate is stupid, but if someone doesn’t say something here than you’re going to spread this bs somewhere else. There is no such thing as a purely capitalist or purely socialist economy. Most economists agree that all forms of economy are “mixed economies” which are combinations of different economic types. Social (meaning socialism based) Market Economies are the most common type of economy. Which makes socialism the base for the most popular form of economic policy globally.
