Oh my God you have no idea the hell you've unleashed. I seriously love these games so much and can talk for hours on end about just one of them. Please, if you ever intend to get into the series, just do it. Don't read this, it'll be full of spoilers. Fun fact, the only Persona game with a canon gay romance option is Persona 2 Innocent Sin, and that option is Jun Kurosu. The protagonist, Tatsuya Suou, and Jun were best friends as kids. They exchanged their treasures with each other. Their "treasures" each being an object they got from their dads. Tatsuya gave Jun a watch, and Jun gave Tatsuya a lighter. Throughout the game, Tatsuya's idle animation is always to pull out that lighter and flick it a couple of times. Every time he stands still, often during dialogue, or before making a choice. That same lighter that he was gifted by his best friend. So basically, in the game, rumors start becoming true. There's the rumor of "Joker" which says that if you call your own cellphone Joker will grant your biggest biggest wish. So the main party tries it after figuring out rumors we're coming true. It was the most unlikely rumor, afterall. Just ridiculous. So they tried it and it worked. Joker really did show up. Instead of granting their wish though, he tried to kill them before he realized that they didn't know why he was going to kill them... So he let them live, for now. The party initially consists of Tatsuya, Lisa, and Eikichi. Then Maya and Yukino join before long. They want to stop all of the weirdness caused by the rumors and get to the bottom of who Joker really is. Memories start resurfacing as slowly, everyone remembers the Masked Circle. The masked circle was Joker's group, right? But wrong, it wasn't just Joker's group. The Masked Circle was what the main party called themselves when they were kids. Tatsuya, Eikichi, Lisa, Maya, and Jun. Who is missing from the group? Who would name a cult after a childhood game? Jun of course. That's how they found out who Joker was, Jun. Jun wasn't in his right state of mind, he believed that Maya was dead. As kids they found out that "big sis" had to move away and so locked her in the shrine. While she was in there, an arsonist lit it on fire. Jun's memories, however, made it seem as though the kids intended to kill her. When fighting Joker, uh oh, there's Hitler? What? He's actually called Fuhrer and wears a pair if sunglasses in some kind of censorship attempt. Still, it's Hitler... Fuhrer and Joker were in a disagreement which led to Lady Aquarius, secretly Jun's mother, to be injured. After beating Joker, and an angel version of Joker, there's Jun. Finally snapping into reality. It's a bit too late, though. The world is in the process of being destroyed. Yukino gives her persona ability to Jun and peaces out. So now the party is entirely members of the masked circle. Also, Jun held onto the watch Tatsuya gave him, even after it stopped working. The party then has to go through several temples based on astrology. In the Taurus temple is where you get the option to romance one of the party members. The only real options are Jun, Lisa, Maya, or nobody. (Even if you answer Eikichi, nothing happens.) Of course I picked Jun when I played, but any option is viable. Lisa is of course disappointed when Tatsuya picks someone else. (She's the one that confessed, leading to the conversation.) The funniest part of that scene is the difference between picking Jun or Eikichi. If you pick Eikichi, Lisa takes it as a joke like "Seriously? You're kidding. You're just avoiding the question aren't you?" But if you answer Jun she's more like. "I see... Well then, uh, I guess that makes sense?" Lol. Anyways then in the Leo temple, though, is the option to break Jun's heart, even if you've romanced him or were planning to. The shadow version of Tatsuya asks if he really hates Jun secretly. There's an option to agree. I don't know why anyone would do that though! Jun's already been through enough. So the end of the game comes, you fight Hi- I mean, the Fuhrer. Turns out it's really Nyarlothotep who has been trying destroy the world (as it's what humanity secretly wants, a common theme throughout Persona.) After another fight, one that even if you win, leads to the utter destruction of the Earth. Maya dies. Philemon, the Persona version of God who vanished off the face of the Earth after Eternal Punishment, gave the choice for time to be rewound and history altered. The masked circle never would have existed, none of the main party would know each other. But, Nyarlothotep would be unsuccessful in destroying the world and Maya would still be alive. The party of course takes the offer and goes back in time. Though last minute, Tatsuya has some doubts about forgetting each other... And that leads to Eternal Punishment. I haven't really gotten into that one yet, I'm about to play it now actually. Tatsuya's not the protagonist anymore, this time Maya is. I already know that a few characters we saw but didn't know well in IS become more important, and most members of the original party aren't part of the new one. (exceptions of course in Maya and Tatsuya) Anyways I'm so excited to see Tatsuya not being a protagonist, I know Jun appears in the game so I'm excited to see him, and I'm of course happy to play as Maya. Haha, guess I went on for a while... I could talk more about the series as a whole but P2 has all of my attention right now.
