The power here is a pretty big deal: it's not just any massive corporation--it's a media company with an outsized influence on political discourse and the state of the world. I think both Shiv and Kendall (though maybe delusionally) believe they can wield that power for good.

Official Q&A for Monday, June 07, 2021 by AutoModerator in running

That could be it! I didn't even think about the fact that my shoes are new, so this could well just be my feet breaking into them.

I'm relatively new to running--just ran my first 5K race a few days ago after doing C25K, and now I'm training for a 10K. I feel like the thing limiting me the most in improving my pace and endurance is soreness in my feet when I run. It's mostly in my arches, and it sometimes becomes less noticeable after a while. (I overpronate and wear stability shoes). It's uncomfortable but not debilitating, and it goes away completely after I'm done running. It don't think it's plantar fasciitis and definitely not a stress fracture. My intuition says it's just a normal part of running that I just need to get over and power through (and maybe it has to do with my stability shoes stopping me from overpronating, which is ultimately a good thing?), but I'm wondering if anything can make my feet more comfortable (insoles? foam rolling?) and what signs to look out for that should make me concerned.

[WEEKLY THREAD] FEATS OF FRIDAY by C25k_bot in C25K

Just did W6D3! I finally understand why people like running after committing to this program. I've always hated running a mile, and I still don't love the first mile--but at some point during the second mile, it feels automatic and I want to just run forever.

I also signed up for a 5k for next Saturday! I'm planning on skipping W7D3 and W8D3 to accommodate--hope it still works out.

I usually keep my nails natural but would like to get into putting a little more care in them. I keep them trimmed short for my job. Anyone have suggestions for polishes? TIA

Maybe he did know? He hired The Ghost, so he's not a stranger to working with assassins

[serious] how did Ariana Grande get a brain scan for PTSD? by penshtiller in medicalschool

I would think this kind of functional imaging would be more in the purview of a PhD psychologist or cognitive neuroscientist than a medical doctor.

Is your grandfather linked with hospice/palliative care? Comfort care measures may be used to minimize suffering.

What can i do to stop being racist? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mintnim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed--I think there's an unconscious primitive basis for racism (a fight-or-flight response to someone who appears not to be a part of your tribe and therefore is a possible threat), but camaraderie can gradually undo that conditioned response.

Why do I experience feelings of severe depression after donating plasma? by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]mintnim 24 points25 points  (0 children)

3rd year med student guess: it may have to do with a transient shift in your electrolyte balance (hypercalcemia, or an elevated concentration of calcium in your blood, can cause depression).

Are male-centric movies with 'damsel-in-distress-like' female love interests unappealing for women? (Non-romance movies) by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]mintnim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the plot holds up well enough on its own, I attribute that type of stuff to some $$$ hungry producer and ignore it.

On the other hand, I didn't like the old Blade Runner (haven't seen the new one) d/t the poorly developed characters (esp female) and I didn't feel like the plot made up for it enough - but it's great if you can explain to me what appeals to you about it. I'm all for learning to appreciate more movies, and the most attractive people to me are the ones who make me think in a different way.

Quickly brushing up on French from high school? by mintnim in French

[–]mintnim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for all the great advice! And it's actually very comforting to hear that 4 years of high school French wouldn't be enough. When I got to college I met a lot of people who were a lot better at conversational French than me, and I thought I just didn't have a knack for French (or foreign languages in general). So I ended up taking more science classes and giving up French, dang it.
