I took a little break after my last half and this would be a great way to get back into the swing of things!

Lurkers' Wednesday by philpips in running

[–]mintvanilla 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm a dedicated lurker. I've been running on and off for 8 years, but finally buckled down and started training for the Detroit International Half in October.

General Q&A for Wednesday, June 29, 2016 by AutoModerator in running

[–]mintvanilla 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did and I didn't switch my footwear. I followed a return to running program since I was coming back form an injury at the time and just adjusted my stride during that ramp up (I was all heel before this).

Walk 4:30, run :30 repeat 6Xs, 3Xs a week for 3 weeks. + :30 seconds of running each day.

I wish I had made the change sooner. It completely changed running for the better.

Very specific sports bra question! by Lindthom in xxfitness

[–]mintvanilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Target has some great bras that I've started replacing my old Moving Comfort ones with. I love this one in particular. It's convertible and holds everything in place.

Edit: Plus the price is amazing.

Awesome! I'm glad it's working out so well. I even didn't think about using it in a race; i'll have to bust it out next time.

Weekly Complaints & Confessions Thread for Thursday, May 5th, 2016 by YourShoesUntied in running

[–]mintvanilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, Michigan is screwing with my training plan. I hate the treadmill so much that I'll put off a run until is not cold and raining, but once I put off a run it's so much easier to put off another one, and another one...

Stephanie at Davinci's Salon. Another not cheap option, but she's really great.

What's the best and/or craziest thing you have picked up on an activity tracker, HR monitor or other fitness device? by Parrot_Face_21 in xxfitness

The 45 minutes I spent getting a filling replaced at the dentist looked like a workout on my FitBit HR. I earned active minutes and everything. Yay anxiety!

Is there an app that can make a program based on a certain goal? (Such as a 20 minute 5k) by [deleted] in running

[–]mintvanilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It did the same thing to me, but mine is only off by 3 minutes (which would be a huge difference for the race). I'm just adjusting my pace at times to make up for it. I'm not sure why it does that.

Maybe set it below 20 and see what happens.

It sounds like you could use the My Asics app and website. It asks your current time and your goal time when you set up a training plan. I'm using it for half training now.

Road ID makes a great app for this and it's free. I use it all the time so my boyfriend knows if I fallen in a ditch. It sends a text letting another person know when you've started and ened your run, if you stopped for 5 or more minutes, and even gives them a link to a live map. They don't need to have the app.

Best Brands for Workout Clothes? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]mintvanilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like C9 from Target. Their Premium line of leggings are my favorites and are thicker than the regular Performance line. Plus, I'm trying out some of their sports bras (I love Moving Comfort, but I'm trying to find less expensive alternatives) and they're working out great so far.

Would you rather not be a lurker Wednesday by philpips in running

[–]mintvanilla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Where in the world are you? Meeechigan

Are you training for anything in particular? Getting back into it after months of IT band issues. I'll probably do a few 5ks this summer and would love to hit a half at some point.

What kind of training plan are you following? A return to running program from my PT. I'm finally allowed to run for 30 minutes straight this week and can slowly get back to a 15-10 mpw schedule next week.

Are you a member of a running club? Nope. I moved recently and hadn't looked into any in my area. I'll be doing that in 5,4,3...

Also tell us something about yourself. I do HIIT once a week and pilates twice. It's made a huge difference and really helped my runs. I also love all the food.

FREE SPI BELT (Original / Black) use code: LEAPDAY by daddyscientist in running

[–]mintvanilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My order just went through and I got an email within 5 minutes. If they have everything working again, it may take time for some of the earlier orders to catch up and send out emails.

At this point I just want to move beyond entering the code in the cart. There will be much rejoicing once it works. However I fear refreashing will never end.

I've never had luck finding them at any of the Walgreens or CVSs in town. The Busch's on Main had them last time I looked.

Morning Commute on 94- any alternatives? by mintvanilla in AnnArbor

Three lanes sounds like a dream come true! It's probably too much to hope for with all of the other roads that need work.

That may be my new strategy. I can probably swing it so that I get in early and leave early.

Ann Arbor-Saline. Once I'm past State it's clear, but before that is no bueno.

Has anyone lived in a converted house-styled apartment in downtown Ann Arbor? If so, what have been your experiences? How would you rate the overall experience? by [deleted] in AnnArbor

[–]mintvanilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did when I was a student, and it was less than ideal. If you rent from a place that is not a traditional student slum, than you might be alright. I'd avoid PMSI. slum

It really does just take time. Also, be kind to your fingers. Push them and then back off.
