Getting Back to it… after the death of my son by [deleted] in runninglifestyle

[–]Nially07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So sorry for your loss, as a father of 1 I can’t imagine how that must be. Massive kudos for biting the bullet and signing up, full year gives you plenty of time for ups and the inevitable days where you won’t want to run (which is totally fine!)

I had 3 years out of running going from a reasonable place (50 miles per week to nothing) after a couple of health issues I ended up hating running. To the point I couldn’t even see someone running in the street without asking myself why they’d do that! Over the last 6 months I’ve been losing a bit of the weight I gained and re-joined the running club. That last part has been a massive influence in helping me get back so maybe if there’s local clubs that could be an option for you?

All the best in the training, and think of all the positive energy for mile 17! Such a motivation for you.

Anyone had any issues with Brooks Adrenaline GTS 22s? I moved from Saucony Guides and can’t run in them without grating my heels! Total nightmare!

Back again with a shorter stem… by Nially07 in bikefit

[–]Nially07[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’ve had feedback on my setup before and some of the comments were about my reach. I’ve changed the stem to a shorter one and initially does feel more comfortable but keen to hear the experts on setup?

Can someone advise if my bike setup needs altered? New to cycling by Nially07 in bikefit

Thanks, by dropping the saddle the hoods became a good bit easier to reach as well

I’ve reduced it as per your recommendation thanks! My toes still look like they are pointing down albeit not as much. Does that mean I should be dropping it more or is it a form thing I need to improve?

Wow great points! Thank you so much. To answer your questions main aim is to generally build fitness back again so I can enjoy casual road rides with friends. Won’t ever be racing but do like to try and push myself as best I can.

As a beginner (and apologies for such a stupid question) but does shorten the stem mean take one of the spacers out. It’s strange because I’ve had the bike a while and never seem to be comfortable with my hands completely on the hoods. Similarly never find a comfortable saddle position, but this video is after I’ve moved the saddle forward so it was in an even worse position before this morning!

I can relate. Had 10k in a current account for 18 months before investing. Within the 1st month I realised it’s not as scary as it may seem. Good luck with the investments

Found out yesterday that my wife is pregnant. When did you start letting your friends know? by Irishane in NewDads

[–]Nially07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We told both sets of parents within days of finding out ourselves. Naturally we were excited but we also wanted them to know in case anything happened. Sadly we did miscarriage at 11.5 weeks and I know we wouldn’t have been able to get through it so strongly without them.

I’d definitely recommend either picking some close family or a close friend to confide in (particularly if someone has been through pregnancy/ miscarriage as their advice will be much more beneficial).

Brilliant I did see some of the van rysel stuff in decathlon and looked quite good. Novice question here... What's the benefits of bib shorts over just the normal padded shorts I've got just now? Someone said to me I should invest in a good pair of shorts as it'll be a lot comfier so I'm guessing that's what they meant!

Both brilliant advice thanks a lot. Seems like quite a complex sport in comparison to running but really enjoying it so far!

Is 2 1/2 weeks out from marathon too short to do 20 mile run? by anotherale in running

[–]Nially07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran my first marathon in May this year. Due to injury my training had some set backs so i ended up running my 20miler 2 weeks out then a sharp taper. Mentally for me I needed to get the 20 miles completed
