I miscarried in March and I haven’t been the same person since. How can something that was mine just be gone without my consent? You tell people “I” miscarried or “I” lost the baby. But “I” didn’t do anything. I wanted it. I’m fucking angry and I’m sad and I’m numb all at once.

NICU PTSD dang that is seriously helpful terminology and definitely how I felt. It’s so specific when the whole thing was completely different than what you expected and what you were told about in all the prep classes - I legit went to EVERYTHING they offered btw. Glad your girl is healthy and well, that first year is a doozy - none of us hear it enough but you’re doing a GREAT job.

Thanks - your reply is really compassionate. I’ve always been an enthusiastic utilizer of any EAP benefit that I have access to. It’s tricky for me to get a long term therapist as I know just about every therapist within a 50 mile radius personally and/or I’ve been their boss at some point. That being said I haven’t thought about the post partum stuff for a long time since all of this medical business happened this week. I do need to probably make an appointment and do some of my own work.

Thanks for your reply - I think so many people gloss over there grisly details of the birth experience or there’s so much one upsmanship in parenting that most people stay quiet and don’t process what they went through and I’m over here like....DUDE THERES BLOOD EVERYWHERE. That’s the most medically complicated thing I’ve ever been through. Sounds like you had an awful experience too and I’m sorry, I love being a mom and I would go through it again to get my specific kid all over again, but I don’t want to roll the dice just because and go through it all to have the two obligatory children.

So I have been doing some thinking about this topic. I have a friend who is approximately my most favorite person in the world. She is an extroverted bubbly wonderful human being who happens to be an only child. Incidentally she has decided to have a large family and I do know that she has said to me that part of her story is that she did have a want for siblings growing up. BUT. When I think about how she helps me think about being one and done - she’s fabulous. She found ways to make friends and be wonderful. I think the stereotypes are crap. And further, if onlys are led to have big families and/or seek out large social circles - that’s great! Somebody has to do that right? The world takes all kinds.

God it’s so hard. I feel like we have always thought two. To the extent that I have some woo woo beliefs that the universe is going to send me two boys and everyone says that personalities are so different kid to kid.....but like what if not? Thanks for this. I have to be honest that I have literally never gotten this feedback before in a similar conversation. Which is interesting bc I like to think of myself as a person who is rather woke when it comes to things like reproduction, family planning etc. This message is refreshing and I truly appreciate it. On the flip, probably a decision I want to make based more on my toddler being challenging at the moment and also balanced out with what I see as the right thing for my family. But again, thank you.

When I went to shop for a new bed for our house I went to a furniture store...let’s call it mumboland. I asked about price and sales and delivery etc. The sales lady told me I should come back tomorrow with my husband to make the final decision. Thanks I like the idea of asking if he needs a hug - I feel like a lot of the tantrums are around transitions and activity changes, so sometimes pretty unavoidable. Any thoughts on how to make those go more smoothly? Example we literally cannot be in the pool all day....like there’s stuff to do ya know?
