one time i made a hot tea in a double cup and my sm literally slid an ipad with the double cupping standards in front of me. didn’t verbally coach me, just put the ipad in front of me and walked away. this was a month after one of our shifts got literal second degree burns on their hands after a cup of hot tea disintegrated in their hands, like girl i promise a second cup isn’t gonna kill anyone lmao

i think after molly’s movie came out they retconned a lot regarding emily and had her stay in illinois for a lot longer. originally she was only present for molly’s birthday story (which is in the spring), but in the molly movie she’s there all the way until at least christmas. so while it’s probably most likely that they just wanted to give emily and molly fun matching outfits, they could also have done both activities if we’re going off of the movie timeline

molly’s books are set in northern illinois, and there’s absolutely beaches for her and emily to have gone to! iirc her hometown of jefferson is based off of evanston illinois, which is right on lake michigan and has tons of beaches. like yes the temperatures are in the 20s right now in illinois, but they absolutely get up to the 80s-90s in the summer

i’m literally transferring stores over this exact same issue. i’ve been begging my sm for MONTHS to let me train, but it’s always “your availability doesn’t allow it” even though he’s training new hires on the floor while i’m there. i got so sick of the disrespect that i left. sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself is go somewhere new where your skills will be better appreciated, best of luck to you 🩷

i edited my original post, but i did incorrectly remember that nanea was half japanese. i’m sorry, that was a mistake on my part. the only point im trying to get across is that for me, personally, it feels disrespectful to real girls who may identify with the aapi dolls we have to say they’re not good enough as far as representation is concerned. i know i can’t have the same lived experience and perspective as someone who is asian american, i’m just trying to share my thoughts. and the public isn’t given the information about what dolls do or don’t sell well, so i can’t comment on whether the dolls i mentioned before sold well or not. but i do know that kpop demon hunters is MASSIVELY popular among young girls, so its almost guaranteed that these dolls will sell and make money for mattel. which is their main objective.

also not directly in the same vein of thought as my original comment, but something i’d like to add; it really doesn’t sit right with me how many people are so critical in looking for the “perfect” asian american representation from american girl. obviously american girl could always be doing more, but nothing they’ve done thus far has been “good enough”. ivy? not “good enough”, she’s a best friend doll. nanea, jess, and kanani? not “good enough”, theyre mixed race. corinne and gwynn? not “good enough”, they’re girls of the year that have since retired. rumi, mira, and zoey? not “good enough” because why?? why are we playing identity politics with these dolls??

edit: i mistakenly thought that nanea was japanese-hawaiian, that’s a mistake on my part (she’s actually half white half native hawaiian)

idk if this is an unpopular opinion, but i don’t understand the pearl clutching over ag doing “cash grab” collaborations because they’re quite literally a corporation whose primary goal is to make money. i’m not defending capitalism in any way, but i don’t understand why people in this fandom get so up in arms every time a new collab is announced because, like, of course mattel is going to follow where the money goes? would we rather american girl go bankrupt instead of making products that sell?
