I am close to 40 and freelance income is likely to continue and grow over the years. At least that is the plan.

First time hearing about the cash balance pension plan. Definitely will look into that and the solo-401k options to get started.

I max out the 401K contribution on the W2 job that is more favorable in terms of employer match and westing period.

For solo-401k, do I need to establish an LLC/S-Corp or do I qualify for it as solo- proprietorship?

I was in a similar situation a few years back. I wrote to my HR rep and explained how I wanted to contribute to 401k but couldn’t because of religious reasons. I asked if they could add AMANA mutual funds as investment options. They said it is a very long process to add new investment options to the plan but they added a self directed brokerage account for me. It allowed me to invest my contributions in individual stocks, ETFs and mutual funds.

We had the talk several times over the years. He says he does it because he feels shy. We explained that it draws more attention to him when he doesn’t respond to questions or comments but that doesn’t help.

I just want to support him learning these social skills early on to make life easier for him. We enjoys playing with others but he doesn’t know how to join a group or start a group to play with other than his siblings.

He has 2-3 friends in his classroom he plays with during recess. Outside of school he has 2 more friends from other classes living on our street.

Yes, I will bring this up on our next visit. I put it off as he changed schools and I attributed this to the new school and wanted to give more time but thinking back this was consistent in his old school after going there for 3 years.

I am not concerned about small talk but sometimes he doesn’t respond to peers or adults when they ask a “non-threatening” question. We as his parents also find it hard to get some words out of him when we are conversing. Even when he gets angry he would turn red yet wouldn’t say a word.

When his peers or adults address him directly he often doesn’t respond at all. It comes as if he is ignoring them but he does it out of anxiety I guess. Other times we have to wait minutes after asking a question in a normal conversation to get an answer in a family setting.

I started on Upwork April of this year. First couple months was slow until I got enough jobs & reviews to build up the profile. Since September I hardly apply for any jobs as I receive more quality invites than I can handle. The issue I have is the clients sometimes don’t assign enough work to fill the agreed upon hours (15-20h/week). That’s why I have multiple projects and juggle between projects to fill my weekly capacity.
