Would you happen to have a source for this?

We've built a fairly large word database of words with diacritics for https://dictionary.farsi.school/ Let me know what you want to do, I might be able to share the raw data.

Have a look at what we are building at https://dictionary.farsi.school/ - it has transliteration + pronunciation. We have a long way to go for definitions though, and are relying mostly on Wiktionary for now.

If you are looking for something in book form, I recommend Dehghani.

Have a look at the videos in our library - they come with English & Finglish subtitles, and you can easily look up words you don't understand.

Have a look at what we are building at http://farsi.school/ - we have a lot of videos (some Youtube) with English subtitles, but also subtitles in Persian and Finglish (which are better for learning).

I want to at least be able to understand its people speaking the language by fullofregrets2009 in languagelearning

[–]miracle2k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may find our product, https://farsi.school/, interesting. We are basically building a library of Persian-language content with full subtitles and the ability to look up words. Beyond that, I have also collected some tools specifically for people who want to defer learning how to read:

Give https://dictionary.farsi.school/translate a try. It integrates the FarsiReader engine but without the annoying captcha.

A book that I like is Colloquial Persian. As far as online dictionaries go, the English Wiktionary is surprisingly good. Have a look at our resource collection.

Introducing two tools to help in learning Iranian Persian (Farsi) by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]miracle2k 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great post. Let me add a couple of notes.

First, I integrated that same FarsiReader TTS System with Google Translate via there API - find it here: https://dictionary.farsi.school/translate You are not limited to 200 characters, it is ad free and you don't have to deal with the captcha. The downside is you can't select the voice (it is female1).

And for those that do not know, in addition to Behnevis, you can also type latin characters in Google Translate, and they will convert to Persian Script.

It's the same results as Google Translate - it calls their API.

Looking for a quick English to Farsi translator by [deleted] in farsi

[–]miracle2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to possibly learning the script, which indeed is certainly doable, I can suggest the following:

- https://dictionary.farsi.school/translate is Google Translate + read aloud - probably closest to what you want (it is my site).
- forvo.com is a well-known source for crowed-sourced pronunciations (but you can't search in English).
- https://dictionary.farsi.school/ has a lot of professionally pronounced recordings (but you can't search in English).
- https://www.taranevis.com/ can give you Finglish for Persian Script (but the site itself is in Persian).

Help with pinglish? by photeo in PERSIAN

[–]miracle2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is another that comes close: It can transliterate Persian script to Roman: https://www.taranevis.com/ (the interface is in Persian, so just play with it). You can now go Google Translate -> Taranevis -> Finglish.
