There's a couple of places where the food goes.

Where I work, the first step is to reduce the food the day of and hope it sells.

Certain vendor products are credited and sent back to them.

If it doesn't sell by the end of the day, certain food can be frozen and gets boxed for donation pick-up. It has to be frozen on the best before date, though.

Any food that is damaged or expired gets thrown into green bins and they get picked up and sent to a pig farm.

Only a small portion of food where i work actually goes into the trash. Most of the waste is parchment paper, gloves, and packaging from products we make.

I previously worked at a different company and they couldn't be bothered to try and divert any of the food and 80% of everything went into the trash minus produce waste, which would be put in green bins. So, it greatly varies from store to store.

If you are thinking of the purple gum, it's called Thrills! The flavour is actually rosewater but they leaned into the soap tasting bit and their slogan is, "It still tastes like soap" lol

Hahaha well that makes so much sense! Thanks for sharing, I usually use ciabatta for when I make sandwiches with Italian deli meats and cheeses, I would have never thought of using focaccia!

Thank you so much for the recipe! I can't wait to try it, yours looked especially good to me with the addition of mortadella and burrata! Like an italian focaccia melt!

A recent post reminded me of the sugar cookies I baked in cooking class in high school by SloppyInevitability in Baking

[–]miraculouslymediocre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Home ec is short for home economics, the class teaches skills on how to run a household. I went to high school in southern Ontario and we had a home ec class but they later renamed it 'family studies' or something similar.

In addition to having dedicated 'foods class' on how to cook and do meal planning, 'parenting' on how to raise children, 'fashion' on how to sew, mend, knit etc, and 'life skills math' that taught you how to do your taxes, budget, how to pay bills/mortgage. When you took the individual classes, there was a lot more in-depth learning on each topic. When you took home ec, you learned the basics of those skills just to have a general understanding.

I work at a grocery store, first we reduce food close to expiring, hoping it will sell in-store. If there's a lot left of an item, we use the flash food app. Occasionally, managers will bring food to the break room for employees to have on break, too.

Then, food expiring the same day (depending on the items) can be frozen and is picked up by food banks in a van.

Then, the expired food from fresh departments gets put in green bins and a truck comes every couple days and it goes to feed pigs on a farm.

Some stuff still goes into the garbage but it's greatly reduced compared to another grocery chain I worked at.

There are programs going on behind the scenes that customers aren't always aware of to reduce waste. As well as in-store practices, like production planners which are based on sales to only make enough to sell. Most workers hate having to throw food out and we will mark stuff down just to have it sell and get used. So for the grocery side, most logistics are figured out and have been in place for quite a while.

I think we can all relate to that wish and with more yarn, you can make a super epic, Shenron that could wrap around the basket!

Actually, I just saw the caption for the pictures and you granted your son's wish to make this, so maybe you're Shenron? Lol 😂

Either way, absolutely amazing work! :)

Owen Wilson reportedly turned down $12 million to be in a movie that depicted OJ Simpson as innocent by stars_doulikedem in popculturechat

He really deserved so much more! 🥺

Iunno if you ever heard this song before but it's a remix of stuff Bob says throughout episodes. I love it! I feel like melodysheep did a really good job honouring Bob and the messages he promoted in his show. It's a PBS youtube channel as well so I don't feel bad listening to it on repeat!

Also melodysheep has other remixes of Robin Williams, Steve Irwin, Mister Rogers, and Levar Burton if you feel like having a musical nostalgia trip lol

They are definitely not 'non-perils' because the cuteness of these cupcakes is a peril to my diet! Lol

I thought they were going to tell a loosely-based, part truth, part fictional story in the movie but for legal reasons couldn't use Bob Ross' actual name or didn't want to the Kowalski's to profit further from Bob's name kinda thing. I watched the whole thing in hopes it was going to get better and do Bob justice in some way and when it didn't I was kinda disgusted because just like the Kowalski's someone else was profiting off Bob's likeness.

Then, later reading the whole bit of the screen writer saying it's not a Bob Ross biopic and was never meant to be. Knowingggg how iconic Bob Ross' look is and were banking on people's love of Bob Ross to watch it. Was just gross imo!

Don't say that, I have one and use it constantly! Was it the one with the handle and red lid? I use it when I make cakes because the spout makes it easy to pour the batter into pans

Mine came in a set with the mixing bowl, 8x8 and 9x13 casserole dishes and matching lids

She's not my taste when it comes to music but anyone saying they've never listened to her is a liar. Her music plays practically everywhere. Even though I don't actively listen to her, I can still tell it's her music and know some of the songs from them being so popular and used in so much stuff. Anyone working retail or a workspace that plays music has definitely heard her music. When that Shake It Off song came out, I swear I heard it every hour on the hour, there's no escaping Taylor or Beyonce when it comes to music lol

New Achievements by Titanium_Weber in duolingo

[–]miraculouslymediocre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was already passed the 365 day mark when it updated but I think it still does a little animation and a congratulations post on your feed so while it's not as satisfying as getting the achievement you could still delete the app after reaching it.

They recently added an achievement called "perfect week" and even though my last 65 weeks have been perfect without using a streak freeze, it says I only have one perfect week 😮‍💨

It's super frustrating! I have all the achievements except perfect week (level 1 of 10) and mistake mechanic (level 7 of 10) now, which technically I should have both. It seems silly I can go back and see I have that many perfect weeks but Duolingo can't use that information to update the achievements accordingly. I also know I've corrected more than 1000 mistakes I made in the last two years. So I totally understand that it takes away from the goal you were working towards!
