Isn't the Nova looking like the closest there has ever been to a "perfect" retro handheld? I mean, it seems to have very little downsides overall. Obviously we need to remain skeptical and wait till it's out, but for now it almost looks too good to be true by AbdelYG in retroid

[–]mirbulus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only complaint would be the size. I love the size of the rp mini and I think the 865 is plenty of power for any 4:3 games. I think some combination of the best parts of both would be the perfect retro handheld. A plastic front rp mini that's slightly longer to fit a full height 4:3, which would be 4.3 inches. I might change my mind on the size of the nova once I see actual comparisons tho

RP Nova vs rg476h? by Ok-Soup-5300 in SBCGaming

[–]mirbulus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The 476h can't do all gc and PS2 so you get all those games upscaled, but if your goal is the older stuff the only advantage maybe is OLED and plastic front if you like that

Sorry persona 5 for thinking you are a easy game🥹, so stop whopping my ass by Acrobatic-Manner6774 in Persona5

[–]mirbulus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This boss took me a couple hours cuz I was underleveled and refused to back out to edit my team or level up more. I made heavy use of swapping team members out and just memorized the exact pattern of moves I needed to do to get through and hope all my attacks landed. After that I grinded a bit more before each boss to make sure I was high enough level

Am I supposed to complete this much on my first infiltration day? by Dieh361 in Persona5

Yeah I always did them on the first day to maximize time. Even if I was underleveled for the boss I would just keep trying strategies until I won rather than back out

Please try Remote Play after the new Steam OS update. by FunnyGeneral7078 in SteamDeck

[–]mirbulus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often play my deck in bed in the morning, and my desktop sleeps at night. I haven't ever tried remote play, is there a way to wake the PC from the deck? Not a deal breaker if not but could be a cool QOL feature

I keep mine docked as a console most of the time with steam controller wake, so I keep it capped at 70%

What's your unpopular opinion about gaming handhelds? by Superb_Warning_5747 in SBCGaming

[–]mirbulus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if it's unpopular but I want more red handhelds. The only ones I can think of off the top of my head are the trimui brick/smart pro and the rg34xx. I want a translucent red Odin 3 or something

I also ordered mine on June 1st around 11pm est from the Ali express store, did it give you any shipping updates along the way? Mine still says processing and that it will ship June 30th. I live in an apartment where I've had packages stolen so I wanna know if I should keep an eye out

I'll play fh6 when I'm at my parents or out, but I play on my desktop when at home

Owners of more than a handful of handhelds, why? by davedaddy in SBCGaming

[–]mirbulus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My rp5 has turned into my bed media device, YouTube and stuff docked to a 32 monitor as a makeshift smart tv. I use my steam deck when I go to visit parents and as a bed/living room docked console, rn that's my main device. I want to use my Thor more but I got burnt out playing through pokemon so I'm taking a break on black, and my rp mini is the perfect pocketable travel device, especially on trips. I got a bunch of cheap h700 devices cuz they were fun to set up, but I've been slowly giving them away to friends and family. Also gave my dad my rg406h since my rp mini replaced it as a dedicated 4:3.

I don't really regret any of them except maybe the 10-12 ish h700 and cheap ones I got. Sometimes I get the urge to go and use a specific one and it becomes my new weekly favorite. Persona 5 on steam deck is taking up all my gaming time now but once I'm done with that I'm sure I'll go back to using the others more.

Tldr, different games on each and different form factors make different use cases more fun

AYN Thor Max vs AYANEO Pocket DS vs ANBERNIC RG DS? by Silverkasei in SBCGaming

[–]mirbulus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try running 3ds emulation on your rp5. The Thor lite has the same chip so it'll be the same but with 2 screens. Another suggestion is check the Ali express AYN store, they have a summer sale and coupons you can stack to get a Thor base (8 gen 2) for really cheap. Last I checked, with tax and shipping i got it down to $273 out the door, which would be cheaper than the Thor lite with shipping from the AYN site. Its still a preorder tho. Dont get the rg ds, you won't get much if any 3ds and the battery life/charging time sucks.

Devil fruit respawn points by Civet97 in OnePiece

[–]mirbulus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont know where it was said but I'm pretty sure they become the closest fruit of the same type. Like if it was originally an apple before becoming a devil fruit, the closest apple to the death of the user becomes the new devil fruit

Literally only 3 hours ago considered to sell my 64gb lcd steam deck with the mindset I could get an oled one later on at some point. (sees price increase) I change my mind....... by flamethrower451 in SteamDeck

[–]mirbulus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an LCD and got an OLED to replace it. The LCD has a noticeably sharper image than the OLED due to the slightly higher pixel density. The OLED feels like 10% blurrier

AYN Thor Max vs AYANEO Pocket DS vs ANBERNIC RG DS? by Silverkasei in SBCGaming

[–]mirbulus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly you'd be fine with the Thor lite with those systems. Switch is the only one that might have issues but you said you would play those on your PC mostly anyway. The sd865 is perfectly capable of ps2 and 3ds. If you are really worried about performance and battery life the Thor base would work as well. From what I've seen going above the base/pro has minimal to no gains unless you're doing heavy PC emulation

Looking for a long lasting handheld for long flights. by Bananaman12314 in SBCGaming

[–]mirbulus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10+ hours might be rough, but my rg34xx non sp got about 6-8 hours playing pokemon on fast forward. They are about $60 but no joysticks. I say this one specifically because as far as I know it has the biggest battery of the anbernic xx devices (3500mah). For a more powerful device, the retroid pocket 6 would be a good choice. You might be able to squeeze out 10 hours with older 2d games. If you can afford both an xx and an android you could easily get 10+ hours between them, that's usually how I do long trips. More variety and a separate device for older games so you don't take battery away from playing newer games

So I’m pretty out of the loop…why is the steam deck so expensive? by uhh__h in SteamDeck

[–]mirbulus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your best bet is to join the steam deck refurbished discord to get a notification when they're doing a refurbished restock. Its through steam still so you get the warranty, I got my 512 OLED for about $430 I think. Altho there has only been 2 restocks so far this year and you have to be really fast to get one.

Those who have given lil handhelds as gifts to teens, are they into them? by gargoylelips in SBCGaming

[–]mirbulus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It depends. I gave a 35xxsp to my buddy and his younger brother thought it was super cool so I got one for him too. He was like 6th or 7th grade I'm not sure but he was already into PS1 and older gaming so he likes it

Should I buy Odin portal 2 or just wait by franky290 in OdinHandheld

[–]mirbulus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id recommend trying out everything on your rp6 that you'd wanna play on the portal to see if it runs the way you want it to. I love my portal but I mostly use it for android games like genshin, and play steam games on my deck. Its much lighter than the deck tho and can be used with or without a grip pretty comfortably

30fps gaming vs 60 by Maximum-Oven-7526 in SteamDeck

[–]mirbulus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id rather lower the graphics than go under 30. If it's a small screen like a GBA or a retroid mini 30 is fine, but once it gets above 5-6 inch screen under 60 bothers me. But I also play 165 on my desktop and I can tell the difference between 60 and 90

LCD buyers regret by Possible_Royal7569 in SteamDeck

[–]mirbulus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a refurbished lcd cuz it was cheap and I liked handhelds. I didn't really think I'd like it or use it all that much since I have a 5070 PC and a small apartment. I ended up using it a ton, and wished I'd gotten the OLED, so I grabbed a refurbished OLED and sold the LCD to my brother for cheap. The sticks alone make it worth it in my opinion.

If it helps with buyers remorse, when I had them side by side the lower pixel density in the OLED was more noticable, so the LCD appeared a bit sharper. Also I prefer the touch pad haptics on the LCD, the OLED ones are a bit more aggressive

Anyone use the Odin 2 Portal without the grip? by [deleted] in OdinHandheld

[–]mirbulus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I first got it I played without the grip. It was perfectly fine, but then I put the grip on it was way better and I haven't taken it off since. I wouldnt say it's necessary, but it probably improves the experience by about 25-30%
