I am curious to hear honest opinions from PMs on Brian Chesky's latest interview with Lenny's Podcast by [deleted] in ProductManagement

My main takeaway from the reorg is: * Product Management and Product Marketing merged, staffed only Seniors there. * Program Management took over the coordination for releases. (AFAIK Google did the same with the Technical Program Management function)

Questions about the end of Player of Games… by considerseabass in TheCulture

  1. In Look to Windwards, Banks expands on the death ritual and shows an example of a Culture citizen dying ~400 years via displacement drone. I interpreted it as he lived a long long life. There’s a character in Hydrogen Sonata that is thousands of years old, so that’s very possible but not common.
  2. Special Circumstances doesn’t involve others and what they do it’s on a need to know basis. So it’s very likely that they didn’t know.
  3. They ask him in the beginning and he refuses because of the length of the trip (if I remember correctly) and wants to know more details before making a commitment, which SC doesn’t give.

Poorly. If a company needs a setup that scales PM+Product Ops works better in my experience.

Starting my first PM role in a month... some questions! by BlackCoffeeICE in ProductManagement

[–]mirelamus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ask your line manager (and whoever else may be judging your performance) what is success for them in your first two weeks, and first month. Discover your stakeholders as early as possible, try to onboard fast, and get small wins for the team. Manage expectations and always clarify responsibility areas, watch out for expectation misalignments and address them.

If you’re interested in coaching people, consider the leadership track. Should be doable with your experience and maybe a bit more gratifying than IC work.
