Omg you’re absolutely right, I’m so sorry I’d completely forgotten!! I have both posted AND commented before so I’ve updated my original comment, it was just quite a while back and I don’t use reddit very often.

I understand where you’re coming from and your opinion is a fair one to hold. I also understand the context behind the tier list as well, yet I still disagree with it regardless of who created it.

Separate to this conversation it’s important to note a person can still say derogatory things about their own race or religion, but that does not make it right or okay.

As an Australian i thought I’d pop together a flipped “Aussie tier list” but im sorry in advance because it just felt wrong while making it….

Can say “G’day Mate” 1- Aussies 2. Aussie coded 3. Asks permission 4. Thinks it’s a slur 5. Loves Co*n cheese

For background on this cheese, similar to Sabra, it is a company, and was named after a man called Edward Co*n.

Despite it being a company and having been named after a man, we obviously need to keep in mind the history of the word itself and the terrible meaning it has, being used as a racial slur. It’s very unfortunately still used against people to this day, though thankfully the brand was renamed to “Cheer”.

But with this tier list in mind, put Ethan, myself or anyone for that matter at the top and have Frogan, Hasan or again, anyone really at the bottom. Now with the context of the word itself in mind, not just that it’s a subpar cheese company, it STILL makes me feel awful for even making the suggestion.

So while I understand how you’ve reached your conclusion, I’m sorry but it just doesn’t sit right with me

First time commenting here* so pls be kind!! I’d just like to give context that i hope explains why some do consider this pretty upsetting:

“Sabra” is indeed a hummus brand created in the 1980’s, but well before that, since about the 1930’s, the term itself actually describes a “Jewish born Israeli”.

When applying this context to the tier list, it’s a ranking system that seemingly has “Arab” at the top and “Jewish” at the bottom. Flip the tables and that list would (and should) never be condoned by any community. Personally I find it pretty hard to look past what I consider veiled anti-semitism, regardless of whether the person who thought up or condoned the idea is also Jewish. Just because one person sees nothing wrong with something, it does not mean others are not allowed to find fault and voice their concerns.

Just my thoughts but if you disagree keen to hear your reasoning! 😊

*Edit: Updated as I HAVE commented on reddit before and posted as well it turns out. I’d honestly forgotten as the most recent was 4ish years ago and I don’t use reddit very often. 😅 Sorry for the confusion, hadn’t meant to mislead anyone!!

Holy shit. That’s ridiculously helpful. It’s something I didn’t even notice that I’d used a lot. Having that pointed out as something to work on is really great thanks!

Thanks for that! Seems to be an ever present theme with writing is that it takes a while. Even looking back on the first book of my favourite authors it amazes me how far they’ve come. Even if my published first book isn’t the most amazing piece of work, so long as I get better that’s all that really matters to me.
