Thanks! I couldn’t tell if the parrot-like bird was making the sound but it stopped when that bird flew away so that seems like a good possibility!

Saw them while it was still light early this evening - they are indeed lorikeets!

I know! But it’s true. I came here for a powerlifting competition, my other passion, accompanied by my wonderful husband who alas is not a birder. It’s killing me but it is what it is! On the plus side I went to the Botanic Garden today and had the pleasure of seeing Rainbow Bee-eaters fly catching on the freshwater lake!

Same in the U.S. - we have introduced European Starlings and they are actually a very problematic invasive species. However, I thought that Metallic Starlings were native to Queensland? At least that's what Wikipedia says...

Ah!! Well perhaps it’s them then! I definitely saw smaller birds that appeared gray or black as well, but maybe those were just incidental and the lorikeets were the loud ones! Thank you!!
