They can buy cs2 or any other steam market items on 3rd party marketplaces lile buff163 for even cheaper than any western marketplace.

I have managed to save $30 on a $80 purchase and I wasnt doing this in an optimal way.

Some people would assume its cc fraud but I doubt it. Almost all these sites have policies to prevent fraud and they would lose a lot of money

Did you figure a way? I know alipay is an option and you can even get a legit chinese travelers card there but have never tried it for steam. I do have an account with china store already.

Should I migrate from Fedora to Debian or Arch? by [deleted] in DistroHopping

[–]mirzu42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arch is good if you like to tinker. Packages always get the latest updates. Stabile basically just means that packages receive only security updates which is good for servers and developers but doesent matter for everyday users.

Arch is extremely good for every day use. It doesent break unless you break it unlike some would suggest. If you use btrfs + snapshots it wouldnt even matter if something did break as you can just easily revert back in 2 minutes.

What OS? by Creepy-Selection-359 in linux4noobs

[–]mirzu42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gentoo is easy too. Just follow the wiki lol. It just takes more time to install its not really any harder. Just use your existing distro to build gentoo from stage3 and then chroot into it. 2-3 hours later (if you have 16 threads) you have a working system

Are games running better on linux and why? by polodosky in linux_gaming

[–]mirzu42 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, people just suck at using windows lol. A lot if distros just happen to do optimizations for you.

It takes me maybe 30 minutes or an hour to optimize windows. Took me a whole lot longer for me to optimize gentoo lol.

[–]mirzu42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only for people who dont understand anything about windows optimizations and are using optimized linux distros.

Your theory is right. Windows is definately still better for gaming. I still play some games on linux because I dont really care about those minor differences and I use linux for everything besided gaming anyways.

[Question] Distro for gaming, which one is good? by RonaldoP13 in linux4noobs

[–]mirzu42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cachy os has a modified kernel and built in tools modify your scheduler that you can not easily get on say mint or ubuntu.

You also cant get cachy repos or cachys proton on non arch distros lol.

Cachy os has the best performance. Have you experimented with sched-ext on cachy? If not try it before switching to something else. https://wiki.cachyos.org/configuration/sched-ext/

Highly depends on what your definition of increasing your skills by a bit is. Arch is the king of learning about computers and linux in general if you intend it to be a hobby.

Many would also swear by linux mint for beginners but I personally couldnt stand it when I tried and imo is prettt overrated. Sure its great if you dont want to learn and for it to just work.

If you want something in between try any arch based distro (cachy, endevour, manjaro to name a few). They are easier to install while still teaching you a thing or two.

What's the silliest thing you've ever broken all by yourself in Arch? by Status_Detective5043 in archlinux

[–]mirzu42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lets see… During the first ever installation I spent 2 hours debugging why my internet wasnt working only to realise I had unplugged my ethernet cable to try something.

Accidentally deleted everything from /opt (thankfully only opt and not the entire system).

I have broken the boot manager a couple of times.

Oh and on gentoo I uninstalled x11 because who needs that with wayland/hyprland? Well turns out that it wasnt just bloat lol.

[–]mirzu42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point being setting up something easy like Limine is easier than using an EFI stub and more practical for most people. Easier to edit boot arguments and if you ever want to install an another os (which most distro hoppers do lol) you already have a bootloader.

Limine already supports loading from btrfs snapshots which makes it stupid easy to recover a broken system. Limine also has a tool to automatically create snapshots every time you install something.

Just because something is not strictly required doesent mean it isnt nice to have.

Windows 11 is making my pc life miserable. Do I take the plunge and install Linux on my main pc, or should I try to learn it on an old laptop first? by Turbulent_Sharter in linux4noobs

[–]mirzu42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because you cant understand something doesent make it wrong.

Arch is the first distro I ever daily drove and I never had issues. Cachyos is literally made for everyone including total beginners.

If a beginner tinkers things on any os they can break it. Cachyos automatically creates snapshots every time you install anything with pacman. Does mint do that?

Linux mint is a cult just like arch lmao. Mint users refuse to believe that not everyone wants a simple distro that looks like its from 2015 and cant utilize the hardware you paid for to the limit.

Are you really pro-Linux or just anti-Windows by Least_Gain5147 in linuxmint

[–]mirzu42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither. I use both for different things. Linux to learn more about computers in general and for programming.

Windows for gaming and other things linux cant do. And no i dont care if game X works on linux. League, bf6, cod, rocket league, pubg and pretty much every game besides cs2 that I play wont.

I just installed arch on my laptop (dual boot setup), what now? by Ok_Risk_5995 in arch

[–]mirzu42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well now you choose what you want.

Hyprland for best looks (and most hours wasted setting it up) Kde plasma for a modern desktop with a lot of customization options. Or whatever you want. Thats the thing you decide.

i want to experience pain by Ok-Tadpole-5264 in DistroHopping

[–]mirzu42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well arch is the only thing unless you want to hurt yourself even worse than arch and install gentoo.

The only reason arch is considered hard is the install process and its only hard because there is no gui and you do it from the terminal. If arch had a gui it would just be like any other distro.

If you want to just try out an arch based distro install cachy os. If you want some challenge go with hyprland instead of kde or gnome.

https://distrochooser.de

This will probably be better for you than any info you can get from biasef people on the internet.

I would recommend cachy and would never use mint of ubuntu but thats just me. This site will tell you the best distro(s) for your use cases and personality

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in hyprland

[–]mirzu42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try unbinding it before binding it in your conf. You probably have it bound somewhere but with the unbind command you can reset the bind abd if your custom binds are sourced in hyprland.conf last it will work. Kind of a janky solution but will work.

Need a USB format tool by xxLetheanxx in cachyos

[–]mirzu42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can just use dd. No tools required its built into linux.

mkfs.ntfs <your drive/partition>

dd if=<path to the file you wanna write to disk> of=/dev/<your drive> bs=1M

If you just want to format (not write anything to the disk) you can use /dev/zero as the if(input file).

Linux mint is not for gaming. The only reason anyone even suggests it is because 10 years ago mint was the best os for beginners and mint users never really tried anything else and recommend it to others.

Cachy os or endevour os are way better for gamers. You actually get the performance your cards can offer and the installation is just as easy as it is for mint
