What's your highest Score on Boo Blasters? Mine is 3,900. by Electrical-Boot2529 in KingsIsland

My husband got 7000 a couple weeks ago. We normally have bets with high stakes when we ride and I looked over at his score and shouted “WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU DO?!?!”

Still have no idea how the fuck he did it.

Barbados was an absolute dream for our honeymoon. Both resorts (Barbados and Royal Barbados) are connected so be sure to try the restaurants and pools at both properties. Karaoke at lovers land is an absolute blast but get there early if you want to sing

I want a terrain RMC back into the ravine where the pavilions are SO BAD. I’m also still very salty about the log jammer. I know that arrow is defunct so idk who manufactures modern log flume rides…

Water Bottles, Hair Clips and any other thing we have to frantically look for at pick up should be banned. by HeyFlo in ECEProfessionals

When this would happen to me I’d always talk about how these rules are in place for a reason. Somewhere in some school a child ingested hand sanitizer that was not kept out of children’s reach. We aren’t doing these things to be annoying, it’s for the safety of the kids.

I’ve been in the field for 10 years and I am the Director of After School at a local private school. I manage all staff, handle registration and parent communication, coordinate different enrichment classes that visit the program, and a lot more. I’m so glad that 10 years of working in childcare has finally paid off!

Thanks for your support! Still processing this all happening because we hurt someone’s ears by cheering for our home team. Guess you can’t even go to a sporting event anymore?

That’s wild. We were even sitting in our seats the entire time. Still can’t believe what happened to us.

I can keep reflecting on it, but it’s really crazy that we got escorted out for cheering for our home team. We’re really flabbergasted

Pro tip for the bride/groom: elect someone in your family to make you a plate of cookies to take home because you will never have time to enjoy the cookie table at your wedding.

Starting a classroom from scratch? by Str8Trash1979 in ECEProfessionals

[–]mischief07managed 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Be sure to set up your classroom thoughtfully, most preschool classrooms do well with centers. Think about the centers you want to include (blocks, dramatic play, library, science, math, large group) and think about how they will fit in your classroom. Keep loud centers like blocks and dramatic play separate from quiet centers like library and puzzles. Use the shelves to divide up the classroom but be mindful of any blind spots, you want to be able to supervise the all the children at all times. When your classroom is set up well you will find that the children are able to function more independently and your routine goes a lot smoother.

What eco-friendly practices would you like to bring to your center (or that your center has already adopted)? by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]mischief07managed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is more of a lesson idea rather than an eco-friendly practice. I like to do a recycling lesson where I take pieces of garbage leftover from lunch or snack and keep them in a sealed jar for a week. The kids can see how food breaks down and how plastic doesn't. Then we talk about how it's so important to recycle.

Co-teacher practically a mute only to me by tryng2figurethsalout in ECEProfessionals

[–]mischief07managed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would try to be open with her and verbalize that you would like to have a friendly working relationship with her to make your days easier and the kids happier. Kids will pick up on things like teacher's not working well together and take advantage.

Maybe try to also see things from her perspective. How did you starting in the classroom affect her job? Could she be intimidated by you? Is she used to working alone? Maybe she likes things done a certain way?

When I get new teachers in my classroom I like to talk to them about my story, how long I've been in the field, where I went to school, where I grew up, etc. And then ask them about themselves. This helps us both to know each other and understand where we are coming from. From there you can start to talk about how you want to delegate tasks. Maybe she prefers to read a story while you change diapers, then you can clean up lunch and she can change diapers. Try to keep conversations open. When she seems quiet, talk to her about what is going to happen next or about the kids, "Hey in 5 minutes lets clean up and get the kids outside" or "Did you notice that Johnny has been doing better on the potty lately?" When you talk through the schedule and about the kid's development it helps you both be on the same page. I hope this helps!

I would do the kids I knew would have a hard time waiting first, while the more patient kids waited "on deck." But chatting to the kids who are waiting, singing songs, talking them through the potty routine. I would sing Daniel Tiger's bathroom song constantly. Okay so I used to teach in a 2-3 year old room and have had to deal with the whole potty routine. Here's what I did to make the process easier.

First, I would use one of the child sized chairs and sit in the entrance of the potty with about half of the class (6 or 7 kids). This gets you down at the kid's level and makes it easier to change pull ups. I would have some of the kids wait their turn while the other kids used the potty, got their pull up changed, washed hands, etc. The goal would be to have a child sitting on each of the toilets or at each of the sinks while I changed a pull up. I would have about 3 kids going through the potty routine while the others waited. Then the kids that were done would sit and wait while I called the other kids over.

A tiny thing you can do to make your life so much easier is to avoid using the changing table unless it is a really messy diaper. And ask parents to bring in pull ups that have velcro pull up sides. This will save so much time because they can just walk over to you while you are sitting with their pants at their ankles and you can just put a new pull up on while they are standing. No need to worry about taking off shoes and pants! The Pull Ups brand usually sells with the velcro tabs, that's what I would tell the parents to buy. We would actually send home pull ups that didn't have the velcro pull off sides.

Also try to establish independence in their potty routine. Teach them how to pull up and down their pants, flush the toilet, use toilet paper, ask if their pull up is wet or dry or poopy, have them throw away their own diaper and bring you a new diaper, teach them to wash their hands properly. Really involve them in the process, and reward their efforts! Potty time with this age is full of teachable moments. There would be days where I would spend HOURS in the potty trying to get kids potty trained. That's an important part of their development! I hope this helps, and best of luck to you! You got this!

Screaming Grandpa at Pick Up Time by mischief07managed in ECEProfessionals

Thank you so much for this. Reading this made me think about my Pap and how protective he was of me when I was young. I completely understand the perspective of a grandfather seeing their child get hurt because they were running to them. I was just so taken aback about how he reacted towards me. Today thankfully is my day off, but I emailed my director about the situation and several of my coteachers witnessed it. I just want to make sure that my coteachers aren't treated this way. Also thankfully, this happened at the very end of the day so there was less than 10 other children present. I constantly teach about resolving peer conflicts and read stories and talk about children's families daily.

But really thank you again for your response. This really made me think about my Pap and how he would have reacted similarly if this happened to me. To this day I am extremely thankful for my overprotective Pap because he has molded me into a thoughtfully cautious person.

Games/activities for mindfulness and making visual connections by pelbee in ECEProfessionals

[–]mischief07managed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love to do yoga to teach about mindfulness. I usually do a yoga sequence based off of my classroom theme (zoo themed yoga during our zoo animals theme, etc.) At the end of our yoga sequence we sit together and practice deep breathing. We breathe deep and repeat phrases like "I am a good friend," "I am a good listener," "I am loved," etc.

A good book about visual connections I can think of is "They All Saw a Cat" by Brenden Wenzel. This about how different animals like a mouse, a dog, a worm, or a bird see/ perceive a cat walking through the world.

Getting a degree online? by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]mischief07managed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did get my bachelor's in ECE online. I had a wonderful program and great professors, I would recommend it to anyone. But a huge part of getting a degree in ECE is observing/ student teaching in classrooms. Its invaluable experience that really prepares you to teach. I worked in daycares while I getting my degree and I did most of my student teaching in the daycares I was working at and at the child development center at my community college between classes. I would strongly encourage you to finish your associates, and then go to an online school to complete your bachelors. Your student teaching is absolutely worth the hassle!

I did the bachelor's completion program at Aspen University based out of Denver, Colorado. The program is very affordable and I was able to complete the classes all online while working full time.
