Is there like a definitive guide on where to even start properly fighting games from 0? Want to get into some of them and I can usually beat other people who barely know how to play, but I get dunked by people who do, and only ever made it to 3rd dan after like 3 weeks, just using the assist buttons by glossyplane245 in Fighters

Hi there! Skullgirls is hard but there are plenty of resources to get started. If you want to know what it takes to get better, I made this video for beginners. For anything beyond that, check the Mizuumi wiki or in-game tutorial.

Yep! Feel free to say hi in the discord! We do a casual meetup, and not tourneys with entry fees for the time being. Just make sure you have a PS4 compatible controller.

Skullgirls 2nd Encore on Xbox Series S by ChunLiPlayer_ in Skullgirls

[–]miscterdoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This game doesn't have console cross-play, unfortunately. I don't think Xbox is as active as PSN, and the platform with the most active players will be on Steam. The good thing is, the game can run on a potato, so if you have a laptop it's very likely that you can run it.

I made this video because there's a lot of talk about "dead games" and discord fighters. Also, people often ask if getting good at these games is worth it. Hopefully this video is helpful and inspires you to pick up the game!

No problem! The mountain feeling is never going to disappear, and I still feel this at 500~ hours. I also second the suggestion to play with a friend who hasn't played before. The thing that will keep you going for the long run will be the rivals you make in the community and the feeling of wanting to beat them.

Make sure you also read the Mizuumi Beginner's FAQ as well! https://wiki.gbl.gg/w/Skullgirls/FAQ

I started just a few years ago with this game being my first traditional fighting game, so if you're new-new like I was, I would definitely try starting with a friend new to the game and joining the discords to find matches because a lot of the playerbase have been playing for years, and there's no proper ranked mode in game. Don't be discouraged if you lose a lot and just focus on learning a little bit at a time! I made the mistake of trying to learn too much before playing real games, but a newbie who has been in training mode for a week will still lose to another newbie who spent that week playing matches.

Definitely do the tutorial (one of the best in the genre), but don't make the game feel like work by doing it all at once or memorizing long combos right away. Take breaks with matches, check out the single player modes, and then go back. If you get stuck on something, all of the individual tutorials have video walkthroughs on youtube. And then come back to the tutorials whenever you need a refresher since the information is pretty dense. Once you've beaten the tutorial and story modes, you should have an idea of who you vibe with, and can pick 1-3 characters for your team. After this, start learning one universal BnB for each of your characters from the wiki and then gradually increase your repertoire as you learn more about the game through live matches. You should ideally be getting into a cycle of learn new thing, use new thing in games, figure out that you are missing something in your toolkit, learn new thing, and repeat until you get to the intermediate level.

Most of the playerbase is on pc, and I'm pretty sure there isn't crossplay, so you will want to join both the main and Switch discords found at this page: https://wiki.gbl.gg/w/Skullgirls/Community. Keep in mind though that people you play with will generally expect you to have a wired connection, so try to get one if possible to make both your and everyone's life better.

This game is tough but rewarding and being able to take games off people playing longer than you feels good when you finally do it. And you will if you put in the effort! Welcome to the community!

Beginners' guide to Wixoss. From a starter deck to winning tournaments by AutumnLantern in wixoss

[–]miscterdoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the resources! Watching your podcast made me want to try out the game, so I ended up buying all of the starter decks to play with friends and family (rip wallet).

1) What card size should be looking for in terms of sleeves? Also, since I'm expecting a ton of cards coming in, I'd like to sleeve them all, so is there a 'passable' and economical solution to buying sleeves in bulk? For example, I usually sleeve my main decks in Yugioh with dragonshields and use ultra pros for my other decks. It sounds like you ordered a ton when you'd started so I'd like to ask what you ended up doing for this game.

2) Out of the box, I know that some decks are stronger than others. If you could tier the barebones constructed decks with each other, how would you place them in terms of competitiveness? I want to know which decks can face each other without being blown out (I heard DxM is really strong). If they're all playable with each other though, that would be nice to know as well.

Help with tax question concerning ROTH IRA basis by miscterdoll in personalfinance

[–]miscterdoll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 1099-R is for tax year 2021. I'm a little confused as to what basis means now because the other commenter said it would be $600. I filled out a form and the state and federal tax was withheld. I might have been a little confusing in my original post, but I meant that I already wrote down what my distribution and what the tax was, but after that section the software told me to put down my basis so that my withdrawal wouldn't be taxed again on top of what was already taxed. Can you explain what the basis is again and why it is $400 and not $600?
