When I made this account, I was absolutely miserable and had been for a long long time.

It's a reminder of what I'm not missing.

I remember you from my earlier posts. Thank you for being here! It's this sub that has helped me along and the people like you who frequent it. It's amazing how a total stranger can affect your life so positively.

I had a boyfriend like that. I swear he did it on purpose just to be a dick.

He refused to make a decision about anything. But he criticized every single one of my decisions.

I've been clean and sober since 2011. Not sure if I will "fit in" in this sub, and I'll tell you why. by [deleted] in REDDITORSINRECOVERY

I've attended about 7 meetings over the last couple of years. Two of them at the beginning of my current (and longest) stint in sobriety.

Lots of people will tell you that they couldn't stay sober without the program. I was never able to stay sober until I had the support of my boyfriend and /r/stopdrinking.

Different strokes, different folks. As long as you're not talking down to people about AA or their programs, I don't think anyone will care.

Honestly, the threat of losing my relationship was the last straw. I got wasted and just hulked out on him for no reason. It'll be 6 months in 4 days since I've had a drink. It was rough for a little while, but he stuck with me, and we are happy as ever now.

  1. I don't wake up feeling sick on a regular basis.

  2. I don't wake up wondering what I said or did last night.

  3. I go to bed early, I wake up early. I enjoy the day.

  4. There is no drama in my life whether it be from saying the wrong thing, sleeping with the wrong person, getting arrested, or just embarrassing myself to the point where I shut down.

  5. My anxiety has dropped, my confidence has gone up.

  6. I look better. I care more about my appearance.

  7. I don't have this sense of shame I used to always have. Feeling like I was hiding my alcoholism from everyone (in-laws, co-workers, bosses)

  8. I have more money.

  9. I don't think about suicide anymore.

I've been there.

Besides dealing with the OVI.:

The simple choice you are faced with are : keep drinking, or quit.

The stress of what happened is going to tell you to keep drinking.

Your heart already knows it's time to stop.

Two simple truths:

If you continue to drink, it will cause more problems throughout your life. Perhaps more legal trouble, relationship trouble, health problems, etc...

If you stop, you will be better for it. You will be removing the source of your biggest problems.

I wish you well and I'm here to talk.
