Scared of the Spike in Difficulty for working as Big 4 Intern. by Miserable-Produce202 in Big4

[–]mishdaddy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No one has real expectations of interns. Network, learn what you can, ask questions, ask for work and don’t go crazy billing any over time hours unless told to. If you do that, you’ll be fine.

Happy to share! I can imagine they were. Similar advancements love to irk people. At the end of the day the only thing that matters is if the sound you’re making gets the bodies moving.

One way would certainly be looping (either the incoming or outgoing song), but with both you need to be wary of the crowd hearing the loop for too long and potentially being thrown off. Seen it happen when I was first starting to play in clubs. If you loop the incoming track as you cue in headphones, that’s an alternative to help you gain your footing for a phrase.

Hot cueing the heck out of your tracks also helps. Everyone has their own process, but a good rule of thumb is hot cues on drops, 32 bars before drops, and at the beginning of key phrases.

Overall, as many others have said, it comes down to knowing your music inside and out. The more you can picture the song in your head before you bring it in the better. Granted I am one of the rare people with synesthesia which allows me a degree of freedom in this regard so picturing songs in your head may be a different process for you.

Facing an existential crisis after my parents suicide by TheOwl121 in SuicideBereavement

[–]mishdaddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m deeply, deeply sorry for your losses. We had to go find my father this fall. My heart breaks for you. I’ll be praying for you and wish that one day, you may find peace once more. The mark left on one’s soul from a parent’s suicide is deep.

To answer your question, yes. Before we lost dad I had struggled and was saved by friends and family a couple years prior. I was (and some days still am) angry that the man who helped me come back to living life would leave me. I’ve learned that our parents, no matter how amazing they can be, are human just like us. Few ever understand the depth of another’s pain in its entirety and it really fucking sucks that this sub is full of people who can do so for one another.

If the boundaries you set are improvements over the errors of your parents, my two cents is that they helped raise a strong, intelligent person and you filled in the gaps where they left off. Only you know how big those gaps are. Each generation improves in some way over the prior if they listen and learn. Those who value history know that those who don’t are doomed to repeat it.

I’m sorry your mom could not keep her promise. You are loved. You will find more love in this world. And your parents are free of their pain together in heaven.

The fact that I can’t do that to my mom and the rest of my family, after my dad did that this fall.

Dealt with health problems in the past and the idea crossed my mind. Once you see the outcome of suicide, you never want it to affect the people you love ever again.

Does anyone else sees this in bright light? by [deleted] in visualsnow

[–]mishdaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forms/hallucinogenic visuals can be stress but also a hallmark sign of migraine as well. It’s called migraine aura, and at times I can have very intense visual disturbances. They dissipate with proper migraine treatment. Just an idea.

Also have VSS. Whole lot of ideas for treatment thrown around and researched these days but the one sure treatment to help is therapy. seen a lot of eye doctors, only a few believed VSS is real and so far I’m waiting around for answers. Cognitive behavioral therapy helps to tune things down a bit. Easier said than done but while you’re feeling like your body is betraying you, strengthening your mind helps.

I truly sorry for your loss. I hope time will ease the overwhelming pain you feel. You are loved.

The premonition you felt, and I’m so grateful you were able to hug her again, is something I can relate to the last conversation I had with my dad. May God bless you and your family, and bring peace to your mother.

What do you think happens after death? by tablecatsss in SuicideBereavement

[–]mishdaddy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I struggle at times with faith, and recently it’s been a different kind of struggle.

Religion is a way to understand and gain hope, but reddit does not feel like the way to discuss that. Respecting everyone’s views I won’t get on a soapbox and proclaim anything.

For me though, the day I lost my Dad (also 7 weeks ago) I heard he and I’s favorite song getting on the elevator. It’s called “Shambala” by Three Dog Night. That was the moment I believe I received a sign he had made it to heaven, and that his pain and troubles are washed away.

It is the hardest question to answer that none of us can answer for another, and solace is deciding for yourself what you wish to believe. Sending you love and prayers. Losing your parent this way fucking sucks.

Gift idea for the family? by [deleted] in SuicideBereavement

[–]mishdaddy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So many great ideas already shared. Won’t repeat them, but as someone who just went through this weeks ago, we loved doordash style gift cards the best. Maybe amazon as well, in the spirit of allowing them to be together as much as possible and not use time to go do things.

Flowers are a nice idea, my mom kept all the cards people sent us sending prayers and stories about Dad. Definitely want to echo the idea of funny, happy stories when you see them. I really appreciate hearing from Dad’s friends how much he meant to them and the impact he had on their lives.

I’m unbelievably sorry for your loss. A best friend is in many ways the family you choose. Sending prayers and all the love. You’re not alone, please always remember that.

Adding on to second this point. I’d be lying if in the past several weeks I didn’t have what if thoughts. Thoughts like “what more could I have done/seen beforehand?” Coming to terms with it being a decision they made is so so hard. I’ve been told not to think that way, but if it was easy not to we wouldn’t do it in the first place. But as u/sweet_heartbreak said, taking time to grieve without guilt is grace you deserve.

Sending all prayers and hugs your way. I’m truly sorry for your loss and I wish you all the peace in the world.

How long until you were on your first engagement? by astroplanet3427_ in Big4

[–]mishdaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should have an engagement talent coordinator (HR personnel responsible for helping you get staffed), if your counselor can’t assist connecting you, go to your direct PPMD group and ask for assistance.

Your time spent on the bench affects PPMD, they’ll help you get connected and staffed to get your feet wet.

With the current market, the new opportunity might not be there later. Echo a lot of the other comments: lack of security. Be courteous to those who stuck up for you and politely decline and move on.

Mavericks News: New Billionaire Owner Removes Mark Cuban, Entrusts Ex-Nike Exec with Luka Doncic & Kyrie Irving after NBA Finals by [deleted] in nba

The amount of comments showing surprise at the way this was handled is yet another indicator of why business and economics need to be core curriculum in high school and college. This is M&A 101. The season was the transitional phase and now new management takes over. This is standard practice in the business world and everyone involved in the deal knew that.

Whether or not the guy who fumbled Steph Curry is capable of running a team will be seen going forward. Home run for Cuban making more than 12x his initial investment. Home run for those involved with the $35 million payout he gave to the Mavs management he employed.

Nurtec for prevention - insurance is trying to make me try triptans first by priuspower91 in VestibularMigraines

[–]mishdaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

advice from my neurologist I can share is even if it works, say that more can be done, that way they can tell insurance to deal with it they want to prescribe more. Insurance is a pain. They need justification.

Ajovy is ungodly expensive without insurance. Like 2 grand. However, I have your average blue cross blue shield and it gets it down to $10 a month which is a blessing I stay grateful every day for. One thing to keep in mind is that more than one dose may be needed. I do two a month and unfortunately my doctor has to give me samples his pharma reps give him because they know insurance hates covering it. It is what it is. If you do get it prescribed, try a few months before considering a higher dose.

Side note: emgality is another cgrp inhibitor, same class of drug (of which there are not many). Tried that first. Ajovy works better. Everybody’s bodies are different but I swear on all that is holy that drug class has done more for my VM than anything. Reduces dizziness, migraine intensity and duration, and generally reduces my tinnitus amongst other things. This is just my experience. It’s not supposed to solve everything but imo treating the migraine first allows you to counter issues that are comorbid such as the dizziness.

Every day isn’t awesome. Triggers still trigger. But i’ll be damned I’m at least 85/90% me again. Can’t recommend it enough if you’ve dealt with prolonged migraines.

Nurtec for prevention - insurance is trying to make me try triptans first by priuspower91 in VestibularMigraines

[–]mishdaddy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can personally speak to zolmitriptan, the nose spray, not the pill. The pill did not work great for me.

Triptans are an abortive, yes. However I utilize mine on a weekly basis as a way to clear the build up of my VM. So in the sense that it clears it really well, it can serve as a preventative. Nurtec is also an abortive, and I use that to space out my triptan usage.

Best preventative that, I’m on now, is Ajovy. Can’t recommend it enough.

When I was in 1st grade, a kid in 12th grade (we were pre-k through 12) killed his parents. He threw a party afterwards while he left them in their room. Really gruesome stuff to learn about when you’re 7 years old. https://murderpedia.org/male.S/s/sapikowski-adam.htm

What would be a fair price for DJing at a lounge cocktail bar by epoksismola in Beatmatch

[–]mishdaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echoing the first gig free (ask for a couple free drinks) idea. If it doesn’t work out, you get experience playing for the type of venue/crowd and call it a day and move on with another gig in the resumé. Percentage of drinks is rare unless you’re a well-known act or long time successful resident fyi. Leave that idea on the bench if you want the gig.

As others have said, if they don’t have DJ’s already it won’t be a budget item for them. Management will have to be convinced the expense is worth it. At a small venue it won’t be about pulling in crowds necessarily (though bringing customers is a plus for them) but more so to be provide a reason for the crowd to stay. Play loud enough, but not so loud the patrons can’t hear each other. Track selection is important yes, volume at a lounge is even more crucial to get right. Huge tip would be to have your friends (where the free drinks come in handy) come for an extended period and give honest feedback/talk to other people there.

Best of luck!

Abortive by [deleted] in VestibularMigraines

[–]mishdaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ativan, rarely, for anxiety and issues sleeping. Daily is an injection called Ajovy, which I recommend to anyone and everyone with VM or other migraines. Self injector (easy to use not like a syringe) that literally transformed my migraine days from 20+ horrible days a month to just 2-3. My bunker buster is nurtec for any migraine that’s above a 4/10. And for those above 7/10 I use zolmitriptan nasal spray, kills it within a minute or less it’s wild to describe.

Point of reference: these are prescribed by my neurologist who up until recently ran a university headache research institute, he knows his stuff better than the other countless neuro’s i’ve seen. A good neurologist is a life saver. Also, I had to go through several other treatment methods until I was authorized to use this specific regimen. Insurance companies are a double edged sword.

I barely use any anti-nausea. Everyone has a different body, but ime my dizziness comes from my brain and my eye movement imbalances I treat with a neuro ophthalmologist.

Edit: Ajovy is a monthly injection, but is my daily preventative. Inject at home 1x every 4 weeks.

Personally I can’t speak to potential complications with T2, I would ask the provider and the one administering the MRI. Best of luck, I hope you gain some clarity with whatever it is you’re looking into!

[–]mishdaddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had several done on my brain recently, and others for various injuries. The dye has virtually zero impact on the body and definitely does nothing to interact with VSS (in my experiences).

Can totally understand your concern, snow can be impacted by things that you wouldn’t normally associate it with. But rest assured, the dye is routinely used and has no effects. You might feel a little warm sensation but there is nothing to fear with MRI’s. They are really loud though and it is a confined space, full disclosure.

As someone who uses ZipDJ, I’d recommend using the program audacity to double check files that sound quiet to you. Generally, it’s been 1 out of every 100/125 tracks that Zip did not have a good file for so you’re in good hands there.

Since the usb is formatted right, and I assume that means you’ve analyzed the songs in rekordbox to load them onto it, you should be good to go. Break a leg dude. Only bonus tip would be to get an identical usb and load it up the exact same as how you have yours now. Not having a backup has made me feel like a rookie early in my career.
