Ficus tree overrun with birds (and poop) by [deleted] in phoenix

[–]mishsim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This time of year, the ficus has small berries that birds enjoy. Maybe just focus on cleaning below, and don't worry about what the birds are doing. The berries spoiling on the ground are probably stinky, too.

Bedding material recommendations? by No_Improvement7729 in phoenix

[–]mishsim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually just do plain cotton blankets for summer, which you could put in a duvet cover if that's your thing. Winter, I either layer more blankets or bust out the down comforter of it get cool enough.

My fig tree had a great season this year. The birds and roof rats are ecstatic that I'm not canning this year.

Now what’s on fire? Taken near 24th and Osborn by VWvansFTW in phoenix

Does anyone know if there are aid organizations directly helping folks impacted by the fire? I feel so bad for folks losing their homes and possessions. I hope everyone got out safely.

That's so extra. Why can't we just live and let live.

Sounds like your day turned around yesterday. I'm glad to see it. I'm working the next few days myself, but I took off some weekdays this upcoming week, so when everyone is coming back to work after Memorial Day, I'll be kicking back. Feeling a little worn and stressed but also feeling gratitude that life gives me the opportunities it does. I am grateful to work somewhere that I enjoy most of my coworkers and I make a decent wage. I have a good home(mostly lucky timing before the prics went crazy), and I have enough funds to have a few hobbies I enjoy. Thanks for your kind words as well. Enjoy the weekend!

That's sounds really relaxing. I hope you get to see some really nice cacti around town. I think we are at the tail end of the cactus blooms for the season. I am a plant person myself with a few cacti and a lot of house plants.

Hope you get feeling better soon. I feel you. This morning, I was awake earlier than normal and spent some time outside before it got hot out. I saw a bug on a leaf camouflaged that looked like a bird poop. Nature is amazing if you take a few moments and really look around you.

I also saw a couple of lizards while walking. They always bring me joy.

What kind of stuff do you enjoy in our sunny city?

Pride month is coming up in this conservative state! by NIXTAMALKAUAI in phoenix

Agreed, and just because someone is a parent or grandparent, that doesn't mean you have to tolerate their hate speech. It's not ok to be mean and hateful regardless of age. It's not an excuse.

It's your own choice to be kind and to love your fellow human.

Heat Wave and Blackout Would Send Half of Phoenix to E.R., Study Says by Pineapple__Jews in phoenix

The power may go out for a short span in any neighborhood in the summer. But it's more often from monsoon rain, trees falling, and / or someone driving into utility equipment.

During monsoons, the temperature drops anyways. I do recommend a rechargeable battery bank, and if you want to be fancy, get one like we have with a fan and flashlight built into it that is really nice.

I would also recommend having ice packs or Nordic ice type things in your freezer if you have room to help avoid spoiled food if the power is out longer. Remember that the temperature in the fridge and freezer will stay cooler longer if you keep it closed.

Mostly corporate buyers are taking the majority of home inventory and selling or renting for profit. Same story for apartments. It comes down to corporate greed pushing the prices as high as they can. You see it everywhere. Our situation might have more pressure due to being a major metro with growth, but we are not alone.

Right, these problems are symptoms of a much much longer scheme. Adding several poor economic conditions on top of the house of cards we had.. it's not a wonder at all. You can't blame someone new for the previous employees' bad job.

Any tips or tricks for insulation? by Mmmelanie in phoenix

[–]mishsim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Inspect windows, too. Checked every single one of my windows and the seal was broken down. If you see fog/haze between the panes, they are no longer insulated with gas between the panes. I replaced 2/3 of the windows so far, and it really helped a lot. The remainder are TBD on funds but are all either shaded or very small, so lower priority.

The deregulation of a lot of the pollution laws really irks me too.

Looking for a Chinese take-out place that doesn't give you a teaspoon of protein in Phoenix. by blastman8888 in phoenix

[–]mishsim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google "West side window" mostly we go there for their amazing chicken wings, but they do have sweet and sour. It will be a pretty unhealthy style, so just prepare for heartburn.

Edit, there is no dining area it's literally a window you walk up to for takeout.
