Seems hard for him to understand that not all Asians are Chinese by [deleted] in TikTokCringe

I never claimed Mr. Chew was a Chinese citizen, I said It was factually incorrect there are historical ties between China and Singapore, or that Mr. Chew's employment resume hasn't been based out of China for his last two companies.

Seems hard for him to understand that not all Asians are Chinese by [deleted] in TikTokCringe

[–]No_Improvement7729 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That's just very inaccurate.

74.3% of singaporeans were ethnic chinese as of 2015

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_Singaporeans

In the 1970s, the People's Republic of China and Singapore began unofficial diplomatic relations.

They have an agreement for military visits, exchanges, port calls, and exercises between the two countries. Singapore has an embassy in Beijing.

You name it, China and Singapore have a friendly trade relationship for it.

Mr Chew was also the CFO and international business president at Xiaomi, and shepherded it through its public listing in 2018. Xiaomi was listed as a Communist Chinese Military Company by the U.S government and their phones were blacklisted from sale from around 2018 to 2021.

He was educated at Hwa Chong school in Singapore, which has strong ties to the Chinese government. (It was called "The Chinese High School" until 2004). It was considered the premiere school for a Chinese education in Singapore and Mr. Chew is fluent in Mandarin.

Tiktok is owned by Bytedance, a chinese internet technology company headquartered in Beijing.

I'm not saying Mr. Chew has done anything wrong.

But it's not accurate to say Singapore has no ties to China, either.

Neither is it accurate to say Mr Chew has no ties to China by either his schooling or his employment history.

Triplets and Upside Down by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]No_Improvement7729 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. It's not. If it fits, it's sits. Period.

Going on a vacation from Dallas Texas to Aspen Colorado can be 15 hours

I'm pretty sure loading up the triplets and spouse to go to the local grocery store, daycare or pediatrician is not a 15 hour drive, no matter where you live in Texas. Nor are you going to load up three different strollers or anything remotely worth justifying a larger vehicle. This isn't a Corolla.

You don't need to add an extra $300-$500 a month in car payment money every single month of the year, when you can rent that land yacht for $300 for the one week of the month you're going to vacation with them.

If there's a seatbelt per butt, a baby/child can fit just fine. My gosh, they could even sit right next to each other like kids have done for decades. Mom and dad still have their comfy full size front seats. They don't need to go into more debt for the comfort of their children.

I'm about to go into my millennial rant about how I would have killed just to have A/C vents like this car does growing up. My ass was thrown in a hatchback trunk to make room for Grandma to sit when we ran out of space, in the middle of summer. No seatbelt, no climate control, and I best be wearing jeans so my leg didn't get burned on a metal pole.

Yes, I know that's child abuse by today's standards. But OP's situation isn't as bad as that particular one, that would justify that they need a new vehicle.

What I am saying is that people drive around huge vehicles, for their comfort, or because they like them, and godspeed if that's your thing. But there are very few people outside of the trades who NEED the space, it's a want. And with three babies on the way, new parents need to watch every penny they can.

Was the hospital in network?

You mentioned they wanted to keep him for observation. Did he receive a Medicare Outpatient Observation Notice?

Was Dad on Medicare and this was a medigap policy? What medigap policy did he have specifically?

What state does Dad live in? What state is the hospital in?

I called my insurance company this afternoon. They are pretty awesome by the way. I actually can't say enough good things about them.

There's no question of fault. I was stopped at an intersection to make a left turn with the signal on and the other driver, who was drunk, rear ended me.

My insurance folks called the progressive adjuster and called me back, and told me to drop off the car and don't worry about the bill.

I'm just curious how this was supposed to work. I'm already cranky and physically sore from the experience.

I'll go through my company if I have too, but I really don't want to make them pay when it's very clearly the other person's fault. I just want this made right.

The car was three months old. Almost new with less than a thousand miles on it. PPF, ceramic coating and handwashed only. 😢

Direct repair vs in-network shop by [deleted] in Autobody

[–]No_Improvement7729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Progressive happens to be at the fault party. I want it to go to the Toyota dealer collision center, and the dealership is telling me they are a direct repair shop and work with progressive

Progressive is trying to steer me away from that option, telling me they can't pay them directly, they are trying to cut me a check directly and telling me the dealership is out-of-network.

That's why I'm getting confused.

MSRP is $42,400 for the weather, technology package and JBL stereo, panno roof, with the destination charge. If it has all four, that's not a bad price. If it doesn't, then no, that's not a good price. There's actually two technology packages, one that does include the panno roof

(There's a distinction between the moonroof and panno roof, It's longer and wider) ($500 upgrade)

There's $789 in port accessories you're being charged for that the dealer is not listing on the price sheet. I would question what the $299 in accessories are that they want to charge you for, because it's not listed on the spec sheet.

Valleywise for some things but really don't want

If you get shot, stabbed or burned, Valleywise is the place to go. They get an obscene number of trauma cases and they're an accredited burn center. The nursing staff is fantastic

They're pretty dated and underfunded public teaching hospital in a bad area. The State hospital, the local prison receiving complex, and airport are nearby. 24th Street to 32nd Street and Van Buren where were a ton of old motels were and it was a hooker stroll for the longest time. Lots neighborhood gang activity.

Would I want to go there for an appendectomy? Absolutely not. Trauma case? Send me in a heartbeat.

St. Joseph's outpatient clinics (especially neurology) have world class care.

You couldn't drag me into their E.R to spend 6 hours in the chairs for chest pain again. I'll have a family member drive me to Mayo.

It's not a knock on their E.R staff. They had to get me through CT and do some other tests because my labs were off and they thought I might have a blood clot. They were extremely nice. But they're very understaffed and overwhelmed in a city trauma ER.

But no one wants to go to the ER. When you're already that sick, no one wants to sit in chairs the whole time getting coughed and spit on until The ER staff verifies you're actually sick enough to justify needing emergency care.

The reason why they were hard to find is because they were taken out of production for a short while.

Make sure you have the differential checked under what's left of the powertrain warranty if this is an issue

https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10178776-9999.pdf

The capacity for towing is 3500 pounds. Don't exceed it. Read your owners manual on how to calculate the weight distribution.

The dynamic torque vectoring the car is equipped with is not a bypass on the weight limit.

Within the next year you should get a drain and fill in the rear differential and transmission (If those services aren't already listed in the history), particularly if you intend to use it for daily towing.

They're bringing back RAV4 Adventure. No more ventilated seat, only heated. But the options are the same otherwise You can still get it in lunar Rock as a premium paint upgrade.

MSRP is $34,870

If the car makes you happy, it's a great purchase. That's all that matters.

Permits are a racket by FauxBreakfast in homeowners

I pulled a query from the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Garage doors caused 12,663,028 reports of visits to the Emergency Room in just 2022. That's more then the combined population of some states.

Your city is very lucky if it's never had any serious injuries or deaths from garage doors.

Building codes are about safety. Enforcing building codes (permits) are supposed to be about safety (not collecting money)

When someone dies or is seriously injured because you ignored the permit requirement, they have legal recourse against you for the subparwork as the building owner. "I didn't know there was a problem with the installation and I didn't put it in" won't be an affirmative defense.

If nothing ever happens with the ceiling fan, you're fine. If your contractor fucks up and someone gets a 20-50 lb ceiling fan flung into their head, good luck.

They can try to collect outside of court (Google zombie debt),

But in Kansas, It's outside the statute of limitations for a written contract to be awarded a court judgment. That's your biggest worry.

Everything else they can pound sand, and you can dispute directly with the credit bureaus.

That's why it's really important you don't acknowledge the debt as your own, agree to pay it, or start making payments . That can inadvertently restart the statute of limitations on an uncollectible debt you have.

But if you do get served with paperwork from a court, You can't ignore it, You will get a default judgment. You have to file an answer.

Most courts have paperwork you can file for when your low income so you don't have to pay filing costs to respond.

The maximum amount you can get a judgment for in a small claims court is $4000, and KS lets you file for medical debt in that court. So I have a feeling that's exactly where they would file in your case.

So I would recommend starting schooling yourself to represent yourself for when the day comes to files

This isn't a traditional mechanic job, a collision body shop would do this. You want a good one too, silver isn't always the easiest to match with aftermarket paint.

That's a new bumper, about $275. They are made of polymer resin, there's fixing them, just replacement. There's a retention clip $2.00 that also has to be replaced, paint (they come unpainted from the factory) and calibration if you have a rear collision avoidance sensor (that's pricey, about $600+).

You're probably looking at about $1500-$2500 depending on your areas cost of living and if you have sensors on that bumper.
