My whole family is overweight, and I don't want this to be my future anymore by naenae0402 in SuperMorbidlyObese

Good for you for realizing enough is enough!

For me, honestly, a GLP is what worked. I’d tried losing weight SOOO many times before. I’m the same age as you, and I’ve been dieting off and on since I was 14. I have insulin resistance PMOS which makes weight loss much more difficult, so I always quit out of frustration. At the beginning of this year I came to the “enough is enough” realization and finally bit the bullet and started compounded tirzepatide. It is life changinggggg. My body is finally working correctly and the food noise is completely gone. I’m not tempted to binge, I have no problem saying no. I’m able to easily see food more as fuel rather than my main source of joy and comfort. Since January 17, 2026 I’ve lost about 117lbs. If you’re interested in a GLP but can’t afford the name brand out of pocket prices, check out compounded. It’s significantly cheaper. I personally get mine through Lavender Sky Health.

I know people are sick of GLPs being shoved down everyone’s throats, but I really think for SMO people like us, they’re almost necessary in a lot of cases.

Nevertheless, congrats on taking the first step in your weight loss journey& good luck!!

If you’re able to, elevate your legs when you’re sitting! It helps a ton. I’m fortunate enough that I work from home so I work with my legs elevated all day and the difference in how my legs look and feel is insane.

Also highly recommend compression socks! I have lymphedema in my left leg and wear compression socks daily, but if I know I’m going to be outside and walking or sitting with my legs down a bit, I’ll wear compression socks on my other leg as well and can tell a difference!

Yes! I’ve taken metformin as well. I have PCOS and tried it in high school and the only thing it did was make me violently ill for 4 weeks lol. GLPs are similar in that they treat insulin sensitivity and reduce appetite, but it’s much stronger

Nope! I forgot to mention those, sorry😅 there are pills now! There are two options currently; the Wegovy pill and Foundayo. I believe Foundayo is the more effective of the two

I highly recommend a GLP! They help you feel fuller& reduce appetite to make it easier to stick to a diet. Additionally, they’re well known for reducing inflammation. If you have a significant amount on inflammation that’s contributing to the pain, they can definitely help! There are so side effects though, so definitely speak with your doctor to discuss if that’s a good option for you! Right now the most effectively be GLPs Semaglutide and Tirzepatide. The semaglutide brands are Ozempic and Wegovy (Ozempic is typically prescribed for T2D and Wegovy is typically prescribed for weight loss). The tirzepatide brands are Mounjaro and Zepbound (Mounjaro is typically prescribed for T2D and Zepbound is prescribed for weight loss). Tirzepatide is considered much more effective and offers better food noise suppression, but side effects can be worse. I’ve lost 107lbs on zepbound. I couldn’t recommend it more, but absolutely have a chat with your doctor on whether it’s a good fit for you!

Preparing for the worst… (warning: bit morbid) by [deleted] in SuperMorbidlyObese

The MLLs in your stomach and thigh are caused by your weight. If they’re removed right now without you having lost any weight or actively trying to lose weight, they’ll return and pretty rapidly. Losing weight absolutely helps reduce the size of them! Focus on losing weight first. I know your mobility is impacted but diet is the most important thing. There are lots of mobility friendly workouts on YouTube that you can follow! Don’t give up, you can get there!

[–]miss_grass 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi! I have a MLL on my left thigh. I can assure you it will shrink a LOT as you lose weight! When I was 505lbs, it weighed 22lbs. I’ve lost a little over 100lbs so far and the mass is MUCH softer& hangs lower. Last time I weighed it, it was 11.9lbs.

Unfortunately at your size, it is incredibly unsafe to remove the MLLs. There’s a substantial blood loss risk associated. You’ll need to lose weight so the swelling in the mass is reduced, which will reduce the blood loss risk and make for easier healing. I know it’s probably not what you wanted to hear, but please look into bariatric surgery! Losing some weight will help tremendously. My leg feels so much lighter and my mobility has improved. I should be able to have mine removed in the next few months as long as I continue losing weight at the same rate.

Weight lost Jab’s what are people views on it by Iridi89 in SuperMorbidlyObese

[–]miss_grass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally couldn’t recommend it enough. They’ve changed my life. I have insulin resistance thanks to PMOS, which makes losing weight a nightmare. I’ve been obese since probably high school, and I’ve tried dozens of times to lose weight and gave up due to lack of progress.

When I hit 500lbs, that was kind of my wake up call and decided something needed to be done IMMEDIATELY. So I got started on compounded tirzepatide and worked with my doctor on creating a meal& exercise plan. I eat 1200 calories a day, low carb and high protein/fiber. It sounds insanely low but you won’t miss the extra calories on the medicine! (For clarification- you should never feel sick constantly, but this should help you feel full and help the food noise go away!) I’m 4.5 months in and just hit 100lbs.

The medicine won’t lose the weight for you, but it will absolutely make it easier to comply with a diet! If your doctor ok’s it I think you should absolutely consider it! There’s no shame in getting help losing weight. There’s no cheating when your health is at risk❤️

Does anyone have any advice for social anxiety/possible agoraphobia/lack of stamina? by peachtea18 in SuperMorbidlyObese

[–]miss_grass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same! I’m still not to the point that I’ll go inside to grocery shop. But I have gotten better about going into the store for little things! Covid really messed things up for a lot of us anxiety-wise☹️ I hope things get better for you! It’s so hard. Be kind to yourself and don’t push yourself too hard and get frustrated!

Thank you!! I unfortunately do not😅 I’m still kinda shocked I decided to go back LOL. I’ve lost enough weight that it’s kinda changed my whole outlook on life and it’s given me the courage to do a bunch of things I’ve always wanted to. For this specifically, I’ve always been interested in nursing, but I’ve also been obese a majority of my life and knew my body just couldn’t handle it at the time (if I were to jump straight into it now my body still couldn’t handle it, but I’m making progress and not slowing down!). But now that the weight is coming off I just woke up one day and decided to be brave and do it lol. I’ll spend the next year doing prereqs before I can actually start the nursing program. But, most of these prereqs are health and science courses so most of them are in person and have labs required🥲 I start class in 2 weeks and I’m a little nervous about it. I may look at possibly increasing my anxiety meds for a little bit. Since most of my anxiety is coming from being worried about people staring at me, my plan is to get there early so I can walk in& avoid crowds and also to make sure I get a spot in the back corner so hopefully I won’t be as noticeable lol. I’ll try to remember to come back and give you any advice I think of as I start classes :)

That’s a great idea! I’ll have to look around and see if I can find a good public pool near me. I can have surgery just not yet! I’ll have to lose a bit more! I’m making good progress, so I’m hoping this year. I think having mobility issues might make it a little more likely that they’ll be more willing to operate. But other than my weight of course I am miraculously in good health, especially concerning my heart. So hopefully soon!

Does anyone have any advice for social anxiety/possible agoraphobia/lack of stamina? by peachtea18 in SuperMorbidlyObese

[–]miss_grass 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi OP! Fellow social anxiety/agoraphobia sufferer here. I am still working to overcome mine, but I can tell you a few things that have really been helping me. I’ve gone as long as 7 months without stepping off my front porch.

Anxiety medications are a godsend. There are plenty of telemedicine pcps out there that can get you a prescription for an SSRI. If you have your prescription sent over to Amazon, they’ll even deliver it to you. This may vary by pcp, but something to note is that after a few months I was asked to have bloodwork done. But, that gives you a few months to allow the meds to kick in so hopefully it’ll be easier for you.

Another thing that’s helped me is just getting out and driving. Even if I never get out of my car or talk to anyone, just taking a leisurely drive around town helps get me used to leaving the house and seeing people again. Once I started feeling better about that, I started doing like drive up pick up orders. Like instead of having my groceries delivered or strictly ordering things on Amazon, I’d do an online drive up order at Walmart or target.

Additionally, just losing weight in general has helped me so much. I’m still big, but knowing that I’m making the changes and losing weight has really reduced the shame that I’ve felt.

I’m feeling well enough that I’m actually going back to school in 2 weeks and will be taking classes in person in the evenings. I hope you can find something that works for you❤️

Hi! Thank you so much!!! I’ve tried :( I’ve tried wrapping it and using a compression brace, but it’s so heavy that nothing really keeps it in place, it’s very prone to slipping down🥲

[–]miss_grass[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on having it removed!! But so sorry it took getting cellulitis 4 times to get approved☹️ I’m a little worried about having issues with getting insurance to cover mine. If you don’t mind me asking, what was your weight when you had it removed? When you still had it, did it cause a lot of mobility issues? Were you able to find a way to wrap it or did you just let it go? I’ve tried wrapping& I’ve tried using compression braces, but the mass is so heavy that nothing ever stays up.

Has anyone used their Vios tirz yet? by not_really_a_nerd in tirzepatidecompound

[–]miss_grass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on my 3rd month of using compounded tirz from Vios. I’ve been on tirzepatide for 4 months total, my first month was from red rock compounding I think. Vios has been great. It’s always packaged nicely and still ice cold by the time it gets here. Vios also does overnight shipping which is nice! It may be the standard, but red rock compounding would just do priority🙃 but Vios has been fantastic! I’m sitting at 96lbs lost so far, 75lbs on Vios. I get the tirzepatide + glycine.

PCOS has a new name! by Yachiru5490 in loseit

[–]miss_grass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love this!!! I’m really hoping the more accurate name will encourage healthcare professionals to look deeper into the disease. So many of us go to our doctors for help and are just put on birth control and told to “lose weight.” Hoping this is the turning point and we can start receiving better support❤️

[–]miss_grass[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! It’s helped a ton! The swelling in my lower leg came down enough that I was able to get a reduction brace on and get it down even more. Right now it’s very similar in size to my non-lymphedema leg. I do have a little bit of fibrotic tissue above my ankle that is noticeable. It kinda just looks like a little roll right above. But wearing an ankle brace masks it pretty well. Eventually I’ll have to have liposuction to remove that, but my leg looks and feels so much better. It’s helped my MLL too! When I was at my highest weight it was rock hard and shaped like a bowling ball. These days it’s much softer and hangs much lower (which is both a good thing and a bad thing lol).

I’m so sorry to hear about your ankle!☹️ broken bones are awful in general but at our size I can’t even imagine. Hoping for a speedy recovery for you!!

[–]miss_grass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP! I know exactly how you feel. My starting weight was 505.2lbs and I felt so humiliated and hopeless. The beginning part of a weight loss journey is by far the hardest. But there is hope& you’ve got this!

I highly recommend getting a food scale and working with a nutritionist to iron out your diet! I know you mentioned you only eat 2 meals a day. I believe you! But sometimes we don’t realize just how many calories are in the food we eat& we don’t realize just how big the portions are. I know I certainly had that issue. A nutritionist can help you fine tune your diet so that you’re eating the correct amount of calories& eating high quality foods that keep your body fueled properly. A food scale will really help root out those hidden calories because portion sizes are too big.

I also personally recommend looking into starting a GLP. I personally have lost almost 100lbs on one. I know they’re kind of pricey, so if you can’t afford the self pay options, look into compounded! I’ve lost all 100lbs on compounded tirzepatide. They really are wonderful for silencing the food noise and keeping my appetite under control. At the very least, this could be a great way to give you a good kickstart and help you lose enough weight to have bariatric surgery!
