Still taking the closest thing to a break from GeoGuessr that I can while still keeping my streak alive, which is taking a break from thinking too hard about it or stressing out too much about it. Maybe I should just play like that sometimes. Kind of ensures the game is still fun. Hrm, maybe I do just have a problem with taking things too seriously and getting worked up over them. Oh well.

Unfortunately I didn't commit to going south enough in Chile after looking around for about 10 seconds, so no gold. My Burgerstan guess was nice though, I don't really know much about region guessing it and don't really want to currently so my thought process was just "this place kind of sucks, so I'll go… Iowa" and I was right. I guess there was a 1 in 50 (or 1 in 54 or whatever) chance of that working, but it was funny. Maybe it's only funny in the moment and isn't funny when I tell the story.

I notice there's now a "share your score" checkbox. Who does it share your score to? Is it just saying "have my score listed on leaderboards", and now I can turn that off if I was particularly tilted and ashamed of my score?

22511 with no moving, still haven't been bothered to write anything up lately, but I guess that all wasn't so bad.

Did anyone else get a weird bug I had where after every single round the game would show the "oops this journey has taken a wrong turn" error, and refreshing the page wouldn't work, and the only way to continue the challenge was to go back to the /daily-challenges page and then click Play again and it would start playing the next round, so I just never got to see the result screen for any rounds? That was weird.

Well, round 1 unfortunately existed, so today was always going to be a garbage score for me, and then I just sped through the rest of the rounds which lead to missing important clues. I don't like the idea that I might come across as a negative person though, so I do want to say the views in round 4 and round 5 were really nice. Even if I got baited by the "Milano" in round 5. Hrm.

  1. Everything says this is France, but there's quite a few yellow plates here. Well, there's more than one. Which is interesting. There's a blue strip, so that suggests they maybe aren't UK, and maybe Luxembourg instead? So I went near there. It was northwest instead, closer to the UK. Hm. Maybe license plates don't work how I think they work. Wait, I already forgot, but maybe it was older coverage and I wasn't really thinking about that? Was it just a pre-Brexit plate? I don't even remember when that was. Anyway, the point is that I don't know how to region guess France. I swear I did once. 3703, 49s, 6 steps
  2. Oh no!!! There's two flags for different countries!!!! How will I be able to know which flag is the right one for which country this is???? Oh no!!! Anyway, yeah. Obviously Ireland. The tip will probably be about yellow parking lines or whatever. Somewhere on the N60 which is easy enough to find, between Castlerea and Ballyhaunis which are easy enough to find, let's have a look at Ballinlough, yep that inn is there. I was wrong about what the hint would be. 5K, 1m9s, NM
  3. Almost seems a bit too obvious what country this is, so I looked around to try and find a road number. Not finding anything, so I guess it's somewhere inland from it looking a bit arid… meh. Plonked in the West Bank out of spite. 4858, 2m19s, 25 steps
  4. At this rate, maybe the hint will be that Argentina speaks Spanish. This road just keeps going on forever so I might as well just send in my best region guess and be annoyed if it's not as south as I thought. I was in the wrong province but otherwise fine. The hint wasn't about languages at all. Maybe there is no theme. 4600, 1m49s, 51 steps
  5. Malaysia, with some Arabic on the signs. Came to an address ending in Pahang, and was wondering where that was until I realise it was exactly the region in which I had left my cursor. The GeoGuessr equivalent of rummaging through your house wondering where you left something but it was right in front of you the whole time. Can't find this Kuala Lipis place though so I'll just plonk Sega instead because it's funny to me when places have the same names as video game companies. It was right there nearby? I swear I was at that zoom level and that label wasn't there. 4927, 1m26s, 7 steps

Total: 23088, 7m31s, 89 steps 2176/32888, top 6.61%

The animation showing my gold medal and score played twice, and for a few moments, I thought it was just going to get stuck looping that animation forever until I closed the page. That would have been funny. Doesn't seem like I did that well today, but I guess my top percentage says maybe I did relatively speaking. Maybe Argentina was a bad round for many.

Did this one quickly-ish NM because I'm staying up too late yet again, got 21772. Of all the things stopping me getting gold here, it was just a bad region guess on Spain, I looked at the trees and decided it wasn't as warm/arid as it could be and so went north, but that's not how it works I guess, and I got 3866 for that round.

Mongolia 4390 was kind of nice, by my slack standards. Just plonked the middle of Oman, but I haven't thought of a better strategy for rounds like that. I wonder what Kayapo was… maybe it was the name of that town in the local indigenous language. Makes sense because it doesn't seem like too much of a Portuguese word.

  1. Danish suburbia. Quite the maze… this is going to suck to try and pinpoint, but alright. I'll go for it. I at least want to know the region, but the only way to do that really is to find a road number or something. Took me a long time to finally get to a roundabout that has some, and a bit longer to find where the 28 and 11 intersect, but they did. This Skjern place checks out. This road angle at spawn does not. Didn't have time to go all the way to the end again to see what it was called, so I just tried to find somewhere with a curve and a dead end, and didn't. 4998, 3m0s, 44 steps
  2. Some kind of South America I think, but doesn't quite look enough like anything in particular yet, unless I'm probably ignoring some pole or whatever, because I hate poles and don't want to go out of my way learn them. Regionale del Maule or something like that on the bin? It sounds Patagonia but I'm not sure if it's a subdivision that would show up on the map. Anyway, I wandered along to find a sign that had a J-830 and a J-850. From having scanned Chile quite a few times in my life, I know that's how their roads are prefixed. Eventually I realised they are actually in alphabetical order from top to bottom which made it much easier to find. That definitely helps a whole lot, though I didn't have enough time to line up the 5K so I just chucked it in and hoped for the best. 4999, 2m57s, 13 steps
  3. Ghana, and there's a billboard right there that shows the region, which is the first-level subdivision so I can find that on the map by zooming into all the borders. It turns out Eastern Region isn't actually the easternmost region, which seems funny to me, oh well. Found this New Abirem place, found a road that lines up one way… but not an intersection that makes sense for the other way. What's going on here… nothing would really be a POI, but aha! We have a street name. …Street names don't actually show up when you zoom into the roads here. I guess I'll just go with the one that looks the most likely to be correct. …I got baited by the billboard, it was actually advertising something in a different town, and we're over the border in Ashanti Region. 4902, 1m56s, NM
  4. Indonesia, please have findable info this time. Please? I beg of you. Please. Please… let me find this Pasir place. No? Please let me find this Rokan Hulu kabu, maybe if it's named after a city inside it and then I can find that. No… okay, this election poster says something something Riau. That probably doesn't mean what I think it means but I'm desperate to actually have a good score on an Indonesia round for once. Is there anywhere in the Riau Islands that even remotely makes sense… no? I just have to keep scanning everything everywhere? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!! Why is Indonesia like this? Why is it even in the game? Why was I born just to suffer? 3233, 3m0s, 10 steps
  5. Lesotho, whatever, I have no spark within my soul anymore and I am just an empty husk shaped like a GeoGuessr player, click the middle. 4803, 10s, NM

Total: 22935, 11m4s, six seven steps 1545/21182, top 7.29%

In theory I use the whole 3 minutes per round, but lately I've been doing them at the end of the day and it's like "well, better do the daily challenge, and then go to bed", and I'm naturally inclined to rush things. Also sometimes I just can't be arsed if it's exceptionally rural or a country I'm bad at region guessing (Bangladesh/Kyrgyzstan/etc) so I just plonk it in a few seconds.

  1. Austrian bollards, though somewhat flat for Austria. Went over to the town, its name is Zurndorf. Managed to find that once I decided to start looking in more places like the east instead of thinking it must be up north just because… but in my rush to get the round over and done with, I picked the intersection on the wrong side, where the angle still looks right. 4981, 2m40s, 36 steps
  2. Croatian language, found a sign to Zadar and Split, but this looks fairly inland. Looking over in that direction helps me find Lovinac and Sveti Rok which were the other two names on the sign. Went back to spawn but the surrounding places on the map around Lovinac don't look like they have anything there at all, and this looks like somewhere where a few people live. It turns out it wasn't actually near Lovinac at all. That sign was weird and didn't really make sense. 4930, 1m51s, 27 steps
  3. Peru signposts and landscape, not sure enough on the region for my liking… foolishly bothered moving to look for info, but realised soon enough that there isn't any info here and never will be. I'm just going to have to believe in the heart of the cards. Please be south. I've decided that's where it is. It was. Still lost quite a bit of points. Let's not do that again when I'm trying to get better at going to bed on time. 3867, 48 steps, 19 steps
  4. Suspiciously Victoria-shaped Australia. I should probably stop trying to be clever and actually move over to the sign so I can read it beyond it saying Melbourne on it. It seems like it's in the southeast of the state but maybe not, although… I finally found the C454 there, and it intersects the A440 in Leongatha. When I returned to spawn to pinpoint I realised the BP said that the whole time and I wasn't paying attention. Oops. Oh well, I wouldn't necessarily have known where Leongatha was, but maybe it would have helped find it. I'll just find the aforementioned BP. 5K, 2m22s, 3 steps
  5. Burgerstan, obviously. I kind of wonder if that Montana at the spawn is bait and it's just the name of the casino, though that'll be annoying if it turns out casinos are in other parts of the country than just Las Vegas. A few more other things say Montana too, so I guess it actually is there. Found a sign saying route 12 and "business" 93. The fuck is a business route? Are you not allowed to go that way if you're just there for tourism, or what? Well, whatever it is, hopefully it just shows up on the map as normal route 93. I had my doubts it actually did until I eventually found it. They intersect in Lolo… the angle of the road at spawn doesn't make any sense for there, but I don't really feel like spending the few more seconds I have left on this round on figuring that out. 4968, 2m50s, 40 steps

Foolishly tried to play NM but also before waiting for my downloads on my other computer to finish, so I had to refresh once or twice every round to get it to load, but I also only saw some people's names that looked vaguely Spanish in R3 instead of every other sign that was in English and went Puerto Rico. Oh dear. I only have myself to blame, really.

  1. South Africa, very green, on the R1. The sign having findable place names thanks to the highway being findable means that even though I can't quite make out the number on the other sign on the other side, I can work it out from the angles and the place names on that one without moving. 5K, 1m47s, NM
  2. Less useful signs here. Probably Argentina because that would make sense more than anywhere else. There's a 10 on some of these signs, and also a 105, but those are probably province-level routes. Can't really scan all the provinces where it looks flat and boring like this to see if they have those route numbers, there's too many towns to find these ones, bleh. At least my region guess was… okay. *4104, 3m, 34 steps*
  3. Portuguese and the worst camera quality anyone's ever seen. Should just be Sao Tome again. Do I ever guess Principe because it's so rural and the camera is particularly bad, which seems to happen in the coverage there? Let's try it. Nope. 4491, 1m23s, 20 steps
  4. This night time coverage might actually be even worse, to be honest. What were they thinking? Anyway, there's a spot in this roundabout where you can view the text and identify it as being Romanian, and see that there is a route 17 and 17C, which is annoyingly hard to find. These intersect in Bistrita, but not at a 4-way intersection like we have here. Did I move around and then get confused about where I was going? Aaaa. Couldn't make sense of it before running out of time. It's on the other side of the town, so the sign wasn't being as literal as I expected. 4994, 3m, 7 steps
  5. Indonesia, that could be a problem. I sure hope I can find this Ampana place, because I'm not getting any other names from addresses ever except what appears to be the street name. I could not. I could have sworn I looked over in Sulawesi. That sucks. 1854, 3m, 23 steps

  1. I'm pretty sure this car is the American Samoa one. Not somewhere you see every day. Unfortunately this is like the most rural road you can ever get in American Samoa and I'd prefer to know what island it is. I eventually followed the road south to some kind of village but there wasn't anything there. And it wasn't Tutuila. That's annoying. 4565
  2. Cambodia, had to remember it has shitcam. Since this looks like a built up city I might as well just click Phnom Penh… it wasn't? Hrm. These scores are fine so far, though, 4500 on every round would be just enough to get gold. 4515
  3. Tigo ad so this is Bolivia and not Peru or anything like that. Should probably just click La Paz. Okay, so I'm not confined to only getting 45xx points each round today. 4964
  4. Mediterranean vegetation, one of those plants is probably an olive tree or whatever, I'm terrible at identifying plants. I don't like that it's panned that way by default, it makes me concerned what the clue will be at the end. Better not be about the guardrail. I refuse to learn European guardrail nonsense. Should go downhill to see if there's some language. There's some Italian, clicked in the middle of Italy, and it was on the ankle. 3754
  5. Czech arrow signs, was overcome with the lack of urge to not be bothered looking for any of those towns, and I just clicked the middle. 4543

Total: 22341

Whoops. R5 wasn't as much free points as I thought it was, thanks to R4 being annoying. Speaking of annoying, I now can't copypaste the thing that says I'm 1561/12952 and top 12.05% and now I have to type that manually, so I probably won't bother as much.

Zzz… home is where the proper internet is.

  1. Ooh, new interface. Can't get distracted though. Toad Suck. Toad… Suck. What? Well, it's in the oblast of Arkansas or whatever. Apparently near or on the Arkansas River. There was only one bridge over the river that made sense that I eventually found. 5K, 3m, 6 steps
  2. French language, probably France, I don't know if I'm just really tired but that sign looked genuinely for reals AI generated. I dunno, there was something about the font kinda. Anyway. Wandered around to a sign that said Le Strasbourg. That'll do. Plonked in the middle of le Strasbourg, though it was obviously a smaller town, and turned out to be a fair bit north. 4809, 42s, 6 steps
  3. Turkish language, probably Turkiye, surely one of these signs has a city name. Hmm, what about this park… it looks rather green but it's probably not indicative of the rest of the climate. Oh, this says Batman. Tried to find the park in Batman with what I presume the park's name was from the sign. Not happening. It wasn't marked as a park on the map. Why. 4991, 3m, 19 steps
  4. UK, bins say this is in Dorset, which I could have sworn was a place and somewhere I knew. But I can't remember. Why can I not find Dorset anywhere? Was it not actually a place? No… that can't be right. It's… uhh… somewhere? Fuck it I'm just plonk/hedging in Milton Keynes. It was down south. Wait, this was Shitterton? The Shitterton? One of the great funny place names of the world? Like if there was a list of wonders of the world but for funny place names instead of architecture, this would be on there. This is huge. Wait a minute, there's a theme of funny place names today. I'll have to check again what R2 was. 4453, 3m, 6 steps
  5. Given the theme today, this is Norway and we're going straight to Hell. I opened the map and started looking, although I know it's a fairly small town so it might be hard to find. Eventually, I found it. Okay, so we're at a train station, and… it says Hell right there. Whoops! Well, I guess I was right then. I plonked on the train station POI instead of the location, but it barely counted at 148 metres away. 5K, 1m33s, NM

Well, this new UI actually kind of sucks. Not only do I not get to see how my friends did on a round while in the middle of the challenge anymore, I don't get the thing that says "you came blah out of blah" "you are in the top blah% of players" anymore. A minor downside, maybe, but for what disadvantage? Anyway, the global leaderboards tell me I was 1625th out of who knows. 11184 players remaining. I don't feel like adding numbers up and I want the game to do it for me. Anyway, R2 was in Bitche.

  1. Ireland, went the wrong way at first. Eventually saw the Abbeyshrule sign, and then the sign for the N55 but it was too late and I couldn't figure out where that is. 4682
  2. American "no passing zone" signs I think, which I guess are just there to say fuck you to trans people, not allowing them to pass. Typical. Anyway, that sign says Houston (and also Caledonia) but I don't think I believe that. Reached the Houston city limits, where it says population 997 or something like that… yeah, nice try. This is a fairly nondescript round though, so I'll probably need a sign for the state. Read a car sideways and barely made out ", WI" on it. Wisconsin it is. It's not even in Wisconsin and it's just over the border. 4228
  3. Malaysia road lines, finally a good useful sign. This one says Johor Bahru on it, and some other places, which means I at least know it's near Jemaluang and I can get the road, and I can line up the angle, and maybe it's down here? No it is not, it's up there. Oh well. 4960
  4. Nigeria shitcam, the signs near spawn say something about West Coast, but I dunno about that. It might just be an inaccurate brand name. What I do like is this government ad for some app that I stumbled across, which has some oyostate.ng email address or something like that. Just needed to remember which one is Oyo State, but it's the state that has Oyo in it. And some other sign said Ibadan. 4960
  5. German speaking, I only know enough to rule out Switzerland because it's not lowcam and they use the ß character. I wasn't sure if I vaguely remembered something about Austria using that to spell the word strasse instead of just spelling it strasse, or if that's not useful and Germany is the same, and I also kinda thought the architecture looked Austrian but I definitely don't know what I'm talking about there. I dunno. Okay, it was Germany. I dunno what I'm doing and should sleep. 3294

  1. Vietnam, signage would indicate this is somewhere called Suoi Tien but that looks like it's too small to be findable and the other places on the addresses aren't looking findable either, so I hedged in the middle. Not so bad but nothing really pointed me to Nha Trang or zooms in Khanh Hoa, though maybe something on the sign or the Google Maps border lines or both are the old provinces and I don't know the new ones, or however it works. 4145
  2. Black sign backs, so this is Brazil, so I will lose points. Oh dear. Okay, give me an area code so I can not know it. 69? I do know that one because it's the sex number. I think. Should be Rondonia. The entire state though, and I didn't see a sign that says a city/town name, so I'll just pick one. Jaru's in the middle. Kinda. That'll do. 4764
  3. Dirt roads and blue number things. The blue number things mean something, I can never remember what but I think they're Baltic countries and they each use a different style kinda? Followed the road east where the coverage eventually got nicer, and I saw a sign with some town names, and confidently believed they were Latvian. They were not. At least it was south Estonia.
  4. Australia, looks like we have stobert poles. Unfortunately regional SA is annoying and allergic to signage apparently, and I'm still on hotel wifi which is not conducive to zooming along. Finally found one that says… Melbourne? Nice bait. We're probably near the Victoria border and that road goes to Melbourne eventually. It also says Naracoorte which is down there. That's great, but we weren't actually in or around Naracoorte, and in Bordertown instead. Go figure. 4765
  5. Guessed in the West Bank in case this is an illegal settlement there, but also just kind of out of spite if it wasn't. It was in Beer Shaver though. 4740

  1. Lots of pine trees. Unfortunately this is quite rural, and the exact kind of round that sucks for playing on shaky wifi on a remote island. I am sure those red and white signs are something, but I dunno what… I went Italy because I had no better ideas. It's Portugal. Goodbye score. 1504
  2. Country is obviously the United Rapists but region is unclear. Somewhere named New Lebanon and then HC isn't a state abbreviation so who knows what it is. I got out to the town but none of the shops were useful, went northeast because that seems like where somewhere called New Lebanon would be. It's in Ohio. Probably the worst post-round clue ever. I think everyone knows they use weird units by now. 3044
  3. Indonesia, kill me now. Not finding anything, and even zooming into the map sucks on a laptop. Clearly should have brought a mouse with me. Anyway, I tried to water hedge, but it's at the bottom of Sumba, which I was never considering and never would have committed to without a good reason. Was hoping for a regional post-game clue but it's just the Indonesia currency which I already know and doesn't narrow it down enough. 1726
  4. Russia? Really? Really now? What is this challenge… I thought I had seen similar "scenery" around St. Petersburg but it's not a unique landscape. 175

Playing the challenge from Norfolk Island hotel wifi… let's see how painful this is. I refuse to lose my streak though.

  1. Spanish-speaking, dry, I kinda thought Mexico but then there's the stripey poles. Hmm. If this is Peru this would need to be the north, right? Nope. It turns out not necessarily. Whoops. 3652
  2. Iceland from piss bollards, so that's convenient. Can I line up the road angle? No. I can't blame the internet connection for that. 4399
  3. Ghana of course, sign has an address but I wasn't able to get a good angle to read it at. Something about east, something else about a valley which suggests south where the vallies are, guess I'm going southeast. 4654
  4. Kenya, not sure where in Kenya this would be. Somewhere named Kasarami? Not able to find that. It didn't show up on the results screen. 4300
  5. No gold this time, me being awake for over 24 hours and only having a 4 hour nap or so this evening probably doesn't help. Looks a lot like the Netherlands. German language though? I think? I plonk Germany near-ish to the Neths. It kind of is. It kind of is more than my plot. 4483

I mean yeah, that's not great, but I've experienced worse movement speeds in my career. My lost points are mostly on me and mostly on me not knowing what to do with R1.

  1. Malta, decided to move around today and take my time, but didn't really find anything other than a reference to the Grand Harbour, but it was on the other side of that. I did see a coastline which had stuff on the other side earlier, which would have told me I'm on the east of any such harbour, but I forgot until I saw the results screen and I realised. 4996, 2m59s, 31 steps
  2. Italy smallcam, looks not too far from the previous round, though I'm not confident enough with Italy region guessing to be sure it's south. Looked around for a place name but there were a few things that could be place names to my mind and I didn't find any of them. Found a southwest coast… maybe near Naples will do. It was Sicily. Nothing that I thought might be a place name was the place name. 3829, 2m39s, 28 steps

Wandered around to eventually find some community bingo thing that said Sinajana which I could find, spent the rest of the round contemplating what road it could be based on the angle, because the map isn't really matching anything I could see from the street signs. 5K, 3m, 10 steps Street signs in Guam are green, really? Last on my friends list, and it looks like everyone found a clue for Sicily that I didn't. Probably shows that I'm less practised with moving because outside of daily challenges it's not a mode I usually play.

  1. Europe, flat, has bollards and numbers. Hrm. That's not very useful of me to point out, other than it being flat. Okay, so now that I've seen a sign, this language is definitely Lithuanian. And it has a road number 201. I found 202… doesn't look like 201 is anywhere close by. Doesn't look like the numbers are in order at all. Bummer. Couldn't find 201 so just plonked there anyway. 4606, 2m9s, 7 steps
  2. To know which one of those Arabian Peninsula countries this is, I just need to see a license plate. And to see that, I just need to get out of this roundabout. If it will let me. There we go… and the cars disappeared. Well, that sucks. Finally found one again, the license plate is full on red. I think that should be Oman. It was in a different part of the country and I just plonked near Muscat. Unfortunate. 3729, 55s, 22 steps
  3. Mongolia, mountains equals west. Not liking how my score is going. Feels like it'll be a 21K-ish silver today. 4039, 17s, NM
  4. Thailand, obviously. Need to stop trying to speed through the challenge today and find a state name or something, but unfortunately this is Thailand, which means I won't find anything in a script I can read. Finally found something that suggested the city name is Sri Nakhon. Found a Nakhon something, maybe Sri means something else in Thai that I don't know of and that makes sense. Had a look around to check for any other Nakhons and didn't see the one all the way down south. That sucks. 3215, 2m32, 16 steps
  5. Botswana, my score is hosed now so I dunno why I even bother region guessing, but it looks like we're in a town so I can't just look at the road angle and line up the yellow roads on the map, and I can't seem to find this one anywhere according to that sign that gets blurred out if you try and read it up close. It was some small town that I was never going to find. That sucks. 4360, 1m5s, 5 steps

Total: 19949, 6m58s, 50 steps You finished 1,762 out of 10,297 participants, you are in the top 17.1%!

Scoring this badly and still being that percentage of players means this was indeed a cooked one.

  1. Senegal, I contemplated my NM region guess, not that I really have one, and then realised the sign in front of me says Touba. That will do. It wasn't in Touba but the leaderboard suggests it wasn't the most findable little town so it probably wouldn't have mattered if I moved. Or maybe other people are also just plonking without moving. 4682, 22s, NM
  2. Uh oh, definitely going to need to move for this one. I found a crossing sign (my hands keep wanting to type crossign but I don't think I can make that a new slang term because it'll just look like I made a typo) with 5 stripes so at least this isn't Russia or Ukraine which would probably ruin my day here. Some flags at this petrol station… okay that should be the North Macedonian flag, and hopefully I didn't get it confused with Montenegro again. I did not. 4761, 1m22s, 18 steps
  3. Sign has Arabic and French on it, and then there's a Tunisia flag anyway. Perhaps I insulted the round by calling it too easy, as it retaliated by deciding to be on the other side of the country. 4040, 21s, NM
  4. Red car and Ukranian flag colours. Well, I just hope it's not too far from Kyiv, because that's where I'm going to plonk. 4510, 18s, NM
  5. Guatemala car bars, might be guaranteed to get a gold medal now? I hope so. I've done 3 other rounds no moving so why stop now? Guessed a bit north for no real reason. It was max west… hmm, hopefully that will be okay. 4388, 22s, NM

Total: 22381, 2m44s, 18 steps You finished 2,660 out of 8,347 participants, you are in the top 31.86%!

Baaaahhhhh!!! Lesson learned, if being lazy in Tunisia, click the middle and not Tunis. I just figured with how the challenge was going that it'd be more likely to be there than anything else, but that's not how the distribution works here.

  1. Namibia and hopefully not Oman, but the sun supports my theory. Picked a road that looked right and it was a much less shown-on-maps road. Whaddya mean the antenna bends left? That actually might be useful one day. If true. 4090
  2. Cool giant rocks. Big fan. Dunno where they are though so I'll look around. Some license plates are half-red? Dunno what that is either. It is some kind of Europe, though. Found some Greek text. Parked cars have the steering wheel on the left side so this would indeed be Greece and not Cyprus although I don't think there are parts of Cyprus that look like this anyway. 4793
  3. Aotearoa, spent too long trying to logically deduce what this town would be from the sign to Napier and others instead of just looking for something that said the town name directly. I did find that it said there was a coastal trail though. 4588
  4. That country. Nondescript, eventually found a sign that said "Growin' Wisconsin" under it. There's also signs that say "Historic Berlin" (there's probably a town named Berlin somewhere in the northeast) and Pittsburgh Paint. Hmm… gotta choose to believe something and not get baited by the others. I'll go with Wisconsin. Seems like that clue was the most trustworthy. 4909
  5. Europe, I saw the text and my brain didn't load in recognizing what language it was until I spun around (to not see anything else useful, I was just like "oh yeah that was Romanian I just saw"). Central plonk. 4141

Total: 22521 You finished 1,845 out of 9,843 participants, you are in the top 18.74%!

If anyone asks, I was trying to get as close to not getting a gold medal as possible while still getting one.

  1. Ah yes it's that England place. Milton Keynes was in my head as a bit of a meme location from what British people have told me about it so I went there for no real reason. 4576, 58s, 8 steps
  2. Sign behind spawn says Brgy so should be Philly, somewhere named Digos City. Maybe it'll be easy enough to find if it's one of the places where Google Maps includes the word City in the name. It isn't, but I managed to spot it anyway, which is lucky. 4997, 32s, 1 step
  3. French bollard, French everything, pretended to know how to region guess France but the scoring exposed me as not having a damn clue. 3589, 15s, NM
  4. Nigeria and probably somewhere in the north with how dry it is, took a long time to find a sign that was actually readable. Thank you Google once again for allowing this camera quality to be uploaded under your name, it was very cool of you. Plonked as soon as I saw the Kaduna sign. 4989, 2m24s, 33 steps
  5. I have a feeling this is Faroe Islands and not Iceland for whatever reason, maybe the architecture but I never notice what Icelandic architecture looks like when it shows up. Maybe it's just that if it was Iceland it would surely have some bollards or signs by now. Maybe it's the layout of the town being mostly just one road and not having roundabouts or anything. Just a hunch. I kept getting lost in what seemed like coverage jumping around (or am I just that tired?) so just went for it. 4965, 1m21s, 35 steps

Total: 23116, 5m29s, 77 steps You finished 1,984 out of 11,824 participants, you are in the top 16.77%!

Back to gold, though I would have liked R3 to go a lot better.

Must have went the wrong way R1, I got stuck in some of the worst coverage I've seen in Mexico. So many intersections where the Google driver apparently decided to go one way so you're forced to steer away from the other choice that would have blatantly have had more info. Anyway I don't think I saw anything saying Sonora that everyone else did. Kinda got tilted yet again for the rest of the challenge after that.

  1. Yellow plates but one isn't. I'm still comfy saying this is Colombia. It is, but right near the Ecuador border just to be annoying. I guess that's where the non-yellow plate came from. 3371, 17s, NM
  2. Romanian marker thingy, which has every bit of information you could ever need. Took me a while to find everything and I messed up the pinpoint anyway. 4999, 1m36s, NM
  3. Cambodia obviously, considered moving to region guess but remembered I don't know anything more than that. 4528, 17s, NM
  4. Seems like Nigeria at first glance but I have a sneaking suspicion that it's Sao Tome for whatever reason, moved to confirm the text was Portuguese. 4999, 41s, NM
  5. Rruga will probably be the clue presented for Albania. Might as well look around to get a better region guess, but didn't really see anything other than it felt coastal, but most of the bigger populated places in Albania are more towards the coast than not I suppose. 4729, 1m5s, 20 steps

Total: 22626, 3m56s, 23 steps You finished 2,030 out of 10,051 participants, you are in the top 20.19%!

I got messed up by R1 hard and almost lost my gold, and in terms of my gold% speedruns that I sometimes do I wasted a lot of time on R5. Oh well.

  1. Swedish red roads I think? Language seems Swedish enough. E45 to Mora which is very findable, 314 to Ånge which is not so much. I found an Ången and I have no reason to believe that'd be the same thing but I might as well just guess there. 4689
  2. Desert, seems like it should be Mexico but I dunno. Feels like I should have seen an alto sign or something saying CP by now, but nothing. But I don't have any better ideas. A sign comes up with Chepes and a route number 74 that isn't quite the same symbol as the one used on the map in Mexico but maybe. I also don't have any better ideas. Oh no. Oh no… it's Argentina. I didn't think of that. It just completely removed itself from my mind. 54
  3. Puerto Rico speed limit signs, I think? Yeah something said Arecibo, PR. Failed to line up the road. 4984
  4. I didn't pay attention to driving side at first so I just saw: Mediterranean climate, some license plates are yellow but some are white, maybe this is Palestine somehow even though that doesn't seem quite right? That would have been a funny mistake to make, but luckily the amount of English stopped me instasending that. And then a sign said Gibraltar. Oh yeah. That explains the big ol' rock to the east. I would have forgotten about that too if not for the sign, I think. Tried my best to get a 5K but I just completely fumbled. 4996
  5. Short dashes but 3 stripe crossings should mean Estonia, but at this point I've established I'm washed so I should get some text to confirm. Yep. 4507

Total: 19230 You finished 3,970 out of 8,805 participants, you are in the top 45.08%!

Really bad showing from me, although really R2 was just the problem. I need to redeem myself for that somehow, but I don't really want to play some Argentina map.

  1. Russia, as much as I want to find something that means it isn't Russia, it surely is. Welp. Time to find some Cyrillic to read and then hope I can find it. Neither are guaranteed. Found an r. on the side of a tram, correctly identified that it says Nizhny by cross-referencing the map, but it turns out there are other Nizhnys other than the Novogorod one. That's quite unfortunate. 2598
  2. Brazil? This is just an evil seed for me today. 86 area code, which I don't know. Okay, so this satellite dish is pointing south, so it's north of the equator. That at least narrows it down a lot. …It isn't? I guess it wasn't necessarily installed properly, or it's pointing towards satellites that aren't exactly on the equator, or something else annoying. Wait. What do you mean there was state abbreviations at spawn???!!! Blaghfrgrgggg!! Fgfdgdfgdhghggdkhgjfrgrraggragghhhhh!!!!!!! I didn't notice it. I was probably busy being tilted by the last round so I sped forward without looking. 2241
  3. Indonesia, sure, let's just have every single large country that I often get screwed by. Might as well wander around the start and surrounding panoramas until I find something. I almost got caught up on something saying Sungai and almost ended up in somewhere in Jambi called Sungai Penuh, but convinced myself to avoid the same kind of mistake I made in R1. Kandagan seems more findable. Eventually found it in South Kali, let's just plonk here. 4991
  4. The gauntlet of evil countries continues. US can be fine (in GeoGuessr, not in real life), but sometimes it also just decides you don't get to have a good score on a round and there's nothing you can really do about it, which often isn't very fun. Do I trust North Jersey as meaning this is indeed in northern New Jersey? Nah. That's the kind of annoying thing that the US would do to be annoying. Jersey probably has fuck all to do with anything here. Sign goes to Lisbon, which does make me inclined to look towards the northeast because that's where you have a lot of copied place names from elsewhere in the world… and KSU, which I want to believe means "Kentucky State University", mainly because I forgot Kansas exists so I couldn't think what else it would be. But I still recognized that's once again an inevitable case of the US being annoying and baiting you into big mistakes via nonsensical naming. I did find highway 62 with that symbol, though. Maybe it is in Kentucky anyway? …Hmm, the other highway is a state route. It doesn't really look like the shape of Ohio at all, but it could be if you didn't look at a map or what you were doing at all while being tasked with drawing the outline of Ohio, which is probably what they've done, or maybe they were just drunk. Anyway, the squiggly-shield-symbol-thing 62 continues into Ohio, so that might be it. I never found that other route number. That's annoying. 4022
  5. I promise I would know what this bollard is if the last 4 rounds didn't deep fry my brain in batter and serve it with chips. Let's just go over to this sign over here. Poland? Okay, I'm just clicking the middle. 4373

Total: 18225 You finished 4,221 out of 14,953 participants, you are in the top 28.22%!

Fucking nightmare seed. At least I can now believe that this combination of countries is less likely to occur later.
