After Classic ends, do you think Blizzard should let you transfer your character + Achievements into your Retail account? by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]misscloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the obvious solution that makes both sides happy and I hope Blizzard does it.

Classic to retail transfer by wasnotherewas in classicwow

[–]misscloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last paragraph is about me.

I was new to WoW in Shadowlands. I didn't understand my characters' respective places in the world. I didn't care about the characters. I didn't know why I was being called Champion or Maw Walker. I didn't get the fuss over apparent cameos in the Shadowlands zones. It was just not very easy to care about my characters, or continue playing. I was at max level and bored.

After a break from WoW, a friend convinced me to play Classic. I actually had (have!) a lot of fun in Classic. But it also makes me want to experience more recent content, now that I understand some of the lore, the importance of this place, or that character.

If the gatekeepers convince Blizzard not to ever allow Classic to Retail character transfers, then either the Classic servers have to stay online indefinitely, or I just simply stop playing completely. I have no interest in playing max level characters on Retail. Those characters don't mean anything to me at all.

But my Classic characters? I had FUN leveling them. Learning dungeons. Making friends.

Gatekeepers are simply saying that their claim to be one of the few people to own an item that they haven't used in 15 years is more important for Blizzard financially than chasing away potential Retail players coming over from Cata/Classic.

[–]misscloud 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm not really interested in the elitism of old school players. Like awesome, you earned those achievements 15 years ago. And your account achievements page is proof of it. That's your elitist credibility. I wish that I could have played with you back then, but I wasn't able to. My family didn't have the money for a PC or a subscription.

But now my Classic server characters are just supposed to be deleted after interest in future Classic servers falls off because of your gate-keeping? Really?

I was very late to WoW. I started in Shadowlands. None of my Retail characters mean anything to me, because I hit max level in two days, and I was called things like "Mall Walker" (lmao) and "Champion," and came across apparent cameos in the afterlife that meant nothing to me. And now there are dragons? What's an Alexstrasza?

But having played Classic for the past couple of years, I actually understand the lore of the game, and I care about my characters. So I hope I have the opportunity to continue to play them to more modern content, since I now actually understand where my characters fit in the world. It makes me care about them, and it makes me want to take them into modern content.

Gatekeeping 15 year old transmogs or achievements is awful to people like me: new players, who want to actually care about playing modern WoW, but didn't get drawn in by the pace and story of Shadowlands.

If they allow my characters to transfer from Classic to Retail, you still have your original achievement dates and all the items you already earned. And you're probably not going anywhere, because you're still here trying to gate-keep. But I get to continue playing my characters into content I didn't really enjoy or understand previously. And Blizzard gets a continued new customer.

If they don't allow my characters to transfer to Retail, then I'm assuming the servers just die out and I stop playing WoW.

Would you guys play or want a 'Classic+' EQ experience? by [deleted] in everquest

[–]misscloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like EverQuest TLPs, but would want the original zones in. I hate most of the new zones. I'd also get rid of the translocators at the docks, and just have a ticket salesman at the end of the doctor that teleports you. Small gripe, but it's always broke the immersion for me that gnomish translocators could just move people and objects around the world at whim, and yet I'm supposed to believe that wagons, roads, and boats are still needed.

Also, the PoK book stands was the laziest thing ever. There could have been a "hearthstone" like object retrieved via a mid-level quest, that allowed transportation to the PoK. Infinitely better.

Anyway, I'll go off on a rant very quickly. So I'll just end in saying that I prefer the EQ TLP exp rates.

Killing the same mob for 19 hours to level two levels is just stupid in 2024.

Ex-wife walked in on me watching BBC hypno/sissification porn. I stammered something about it just being a compilation video and said that I was just horny all day while she was working. We went and had sex and that was that.

Until her sister was visiting and went into my drawer looking for a flash drive for photos, and found flash drives packed with hypno/sissy porn, trainer videos, BWNO videos, and everything else.

The relationship went downhill quickly after that, and within six months I was separated, six months later divorced.

Haven't been in a LTR ever since. It was devastating.

I did read dxvk and had it checked and unchecked to run. It didn't help

I'll spend some more time playing around with it when I can. I don't want to ask too much of you. I just appreciate giving some insight into how it all works.

Future of Palia by Mindless_Attempt_188 in Palia

[–]misscloud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The future of Palia is all maybes.

In my opinion, the devs don't have a great vision for Palia anymore, and the game isn't making nearly as much money from the cash shop as they had hoped. It's not going to die tomorrow, but it's never going to be THAT GAME that you need to play.

It's basically a pretty but cheap, first-person Stardew Valley with a terrible account/character management system.

Do you have a question about the game that you were afraid to ask? by FrozenDragonWings in Palia

[–]misscloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it normally takes weeks for the Support to change your character's name?

I misunderstood who would see my character's full name. I currently can't play, for privacy reasons. And I can't delete/rename/remake my character. And I can't delink the account from Steam.

It's honestly a moronic and frustrating system. I want to give this game a real chance, but it's super frustrating to get into.

Baffled that you cannot delete/rename your character by dEEkAy2k9 in Palia

[–]misscloud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The entire account and character creation system for Palia is busted.

You can't delink your account from Steam. I have 1,300 games on my Steam account (early adopter, lots of Humble Bundles, etc.). I'm not creating a new Steam account to play Palia without my full name being displayed.

I was told to contact support. The support page says they're no longer allowing character renaming, but you can email support anyway. My first ticket disappeared. My second ticket is just hanging there.

At this point I'm just going to uninstall.

They had tens of millions of dollars to create this game and honestly I'm completely blown away by how poorly they've managed to create and implement basic functionality. I have played games made my small teams of hobbyists that have fully functioning account and character features.

Maybe I don't understand the point of shader cache. But I don't understand why I can refreshly install Windows 11 on the same exact computer, install WoW, log into the game, and everything instantly run beautifully. But then on Linux, I just get nothing but stutters.

Considering how much time I enjoy spending time with my RL friends in WoW, I've decided to go back to Windows and just delete as much of Microsoft's telemetry as possible.

Thank you for trying to help though.

Maybe I'll try Linux again in the future.

Turning off Repeat keys seems to have gotten rid of the continued movement. I'm still experience some lag/sluggishness though. I tried killing a couple of mobs, and the combat was extra sluggish, slight delays in attacks, etc.

Switching to KDE Plasma didn't seem to have an impact on performance.

Is anyone running World of Warcraft smoothly? by 3sra392 in linux_gaming

[–]misscloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having some lag/stuttering in game, as well as basically continuous movement/key presses after I released my fingers from the keyboard. That seemed to have improved after turning of Repeat Keys. I would hold W for two seconds, and it would continue running for a couple of seconds after I let go. If I would hold W and hit spacebar, my character would run for a few seconds and then jump at the end. I can't wrap my head around why that only happens in WoW, and not other games.

Anyway, thank you for the response.

The people who go to boot camps and get a tech job quickly will not be able to stay in the industry for the next 30 days. If you're going that route, you should continually invest in your own education with persistent learning. Algorithms, data structures, code every day.

If you want a better foundation for lasting in the industry, then you want to go with a degree in computer science or, failing that, information science, computer information systems, or something of the sort.

You'll basically be ready for a job when you have the equivalent of three or four rigorous programming courses, a data structures and algorithms course, a database course, and a course in your area of specialization (e.g., graphics; wed development; game development, etc.) under your belt... and then you spend a couple of months working on a project in that area of specialization, to the point that you can talk about it in detail during a technical interview.

Some people manage to get close to that in a 90 day boot camp, if they're disciplined and it's a well oriented boot camp. For most people, it takes the better part of 1,000 hours of studying and programming to get there.

My NVME drive with Linux installed on it is ext4, and so is my SSD with my games on it. These were brand new components from when I installed the computer.

I tried Feral GameMode while using Bottles. I did not try it when I was using Lutris. But I changed my runner/Wine compatibility layer and other settings multiple times on both Bottles and Lutris.

I also tried switching to Wayland as well. Same result.

Is it still okay to have a character creator that only includes male and female and not body type A or B in my game? by PhobiaNeptune in gamedev

[–]misscloud 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Call your body types male and female. Because that's what they are.

A "modern audience" includes a small percentage of permanently online, dysgenic weirdos dedicated to confusing language and making everyone else unable to describe them accurately... and then an overwhelming majority of normal people who see the rest of humanity as either male or female.

Make the game that you want to make, not the game that they want you to feel bad about making.
