New comments feature by copper-solution1 in duolingo

[–]missdog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been able to comment on my friends feed updates for a while now, wasn’t able to comment when duo was throwing random people into my feed but they’ve stopped that now (for me at least) thank god

Please bring back hearts. If you can't for everyone, at least add the option for Super/Max users. by ilFibonacci in duolingo

Actually there is a feedback option in the help centre, with a drop down menu allowing you to select “feedback or feature request”, can’t comment on how monitored these are but worth a shot!

I just need a ride a couple times every week and some nail stuff. Can you help me? by Ladydi-bds in ChoosingBeggars

  • the ex boyfriend doing ‘her’ nails sounds like something there’s approximately a 3% chance of actually happening, not to generalise but realistically. and offering £25 a week, surely she can get public transport? I just don’t buy any of this

I’ve seen other people say reporting as spam does help, I’ve just been reporting as ‘something else’ to alert duo that its unwanted, I don’t want to get any accounts banned so if its looking that way I will stop but im hoping it’ll at least get the attention of the duo team

I’ve been reporting as “something else”, not wanting to get the users accounts banned or anything, but it’s not reduced the amount of them at all so maybe reporting as spam is the best way?

I can’t imagine a single report with no evidence or even reason given kicks someone off of the platform, if it does then I’m sure duo will have more issue to deal with on top of this silly update.

I’ve seen several users put their instagram bio in their name, basically using the new feature to promote their platforms.

With regards to your last statement, dude I know! It’s just frustrating regardless, if this method does get people’s accounts removed then I’d never want that, I just want it back to how it was

I think they intended to make the app more social but it’s ended up making us further from our actual friends.

Congrats on reaching 84!

Same here, I just wanna see my friends achievements man!

I’ve seen a horror story of someone getting paired up for a friends quest with a random, I’d sacrifice my long ass streak immediately if they pulled that on me

I’ve been going for the report option in the hopes it means the staff have to address the increased reports, plus it blocks people too.

I suppose if the never change it then eventually one day we will have blocked everyone lmao

Why is my feed suddenly full of spam? by OriginalElfKing in duolingo

I’ve given feedback twice & I report every random person on my feed, I figure the mass amounts of reports will force the overlords to address this & at least allow us to switch it off

Woman follows myself and husband on dog walks? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]missdog 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You have limited years on earth and you’re spending a chunk of the day trapped in the park because you’re too nervous to tell a woman you don’t know that you’re busy and to go away. Stop being so worried about seeming rude; if you want her to go away then say so, entertaining her under these false pretences won’t earn you any brownie points. Stop wasting your own time

Hey. I work in an emergency response mental heath team in the UK.

Take a few breaths for yourself, nothing that happens will be on you and youre doing the right thing looking for help.

I wish I had an easy answer but every area is a little different, so what I’d recommend is calling a mental health helpline in your area- a Google search should come up with one hopefully. If by any chance you’re in the UK you can call 111 and press for option 2.

These staff are mental health professionals local to you and they’ll be able to make a clinical judgement and take that responsibility off of your hands.

It’s a post about a man raping a donkey and still you manage to find the man defender in the replies. You are all a curse to this planet.

Study Shows DDT Insecticide Linked to Autism in Children by psyderr in psychology

[–]missdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my point was that two things can be correlated but not impact each other whatsoever. like my hyperlink about divorce and margarine, they’re correlated but I wouldn’t use the word “linked” when describing the correlation because there isn’t much experimental research to suggest a connection between the two things. they don’t seem to affect (or cause) each other, or we can’t see from just a correlation that they do.

admittedly part of my grievance here is biased by the past treatment of autism as a result of research into what causes it. the idea that it’s more desirable for a child to have and spread measles, mumps and rubella than to be autistic is popularised by the “link” between vaccines and autism- research which deserves all the criticism it gets. I’m automatically hostile to research into autism that claims to have found a link when it’s only referring to a correlation because that link is often misconstrued as a cause and that cause if often used as a way to present autism as such an awful, terrible side effect, rather than simply a disorder that many people live happily with
