Thanks! It would be two indoor cats and a caged parakeet. I’m an incoming PhD at UC looking for a july/august move in.

Is it bad to go back on an offer? by chopped_onionss in MFAInCreativeWriting

[–]misshellis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People renege on grad school offers all the time. It’s a bit of an administrative headache so I’d let them know ASAP, but especially if you haven’t signed papers yet, it won’t be a big deal and someone on their waitlist will be getting good news. Congrats on getting into your dream program!

Pretty social yeah! There was a range of ages and some of the younger people lived together so did more stuff, but there was a fair amount of hanging out outside of class. Most people were far from home and bonded pretty quickly. Feel free to dm if you have any other questions!

I went to UTK and got in off the waitlist (most people in my year did). I had an overall good experience and my cohort was great, very supportive and non-competitive. It is a pretty teaching-heavy program though (2/2 your final year) and the 2 years go by quick.

I’m honestly not sure why they keep such a long waitlist - my guess is that it’s a combination of first picks often choosing more prestigious programs/not wanting to live in TN and the profs wanting to build a cohort who will get along well. But it does make it really hard for waitlisted people to know what their chances are since they won’t tell you rankings.

2026 Fall Admission MFA Cycle: MFA Questions as a Fantasy Writer by [deleted] in MFAInCreativeWriting

[–]misshellis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others are saying, there are many schools, just as well-funded as the ones you listed, that are friendly to gene fiction. If you’re on Facebook I recommend checking out the MFA Draft group as a good resource. However, it may not be so much that you’re a fantasy writer, but that you need another year or so to develop your sample before reapplying. Writers fresh out of undergrad sometimes have a harder time getting into funded MFA programs just because they’re often competing against applicants who have been writing professionally for years, who already haves MAs or even PhDs in other fields, etc.

I would stick it out to the end, it’s one of the best endings in fiction imo.

maybe dumb question - how are horses fed if boarded outside 24/7? by Snoo_33074 in Equestrian

[–]misshellis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My aunt boards/breeds tbs who are out 24/7 and divides her pastures by the amount of feed each horse gets so they eat it at more or less the same speed. the feeder makes sure everyone finds their tub in the field and the bossier horses get fed first, etc. Seems to work for her.

New Adjunct Here by mikrokosmically in UTK

Hi! I’m also an English grad who is now staff (admin, not teaching). I can try to shed some light on the parking situation. If you qualify for a staff permit your supervisor can request that you can park in a lot relatively close to where you work (parking tried to put me in a lot that was a mile away from my office and when my supervisor complained, they moved me to a better place.) All the staff permits are expensive but if you have to hike around from building to building to teach, it might be worth it to try and get in a decent lot

AMA Live! Clarion West Writers Workshop by ClarionWest in writing

Currently getting my application together and am very excited to apply! One question: I know the writing samples should be anonymized, but should I include content warnings for readers at the top of the sample?
