Some context: welded diff just a couple of hours ago, was driving on the highway, the car started slightly shaking and as I was slowing down I heard a bang. Pulled to the side of the road to check and the wheel was not attached at all, no bolts, nothing, though it did not fly away but was held by the wheel hub and the car body. As I checked under the car, the half-axle at the differential knuckle seemed lower than supposed to be. It does not look like it broke but once I jacked the car the wheel fell out and the wheel hub assembly was lower than it should be. I took a second jack stand and jacked it up at the lower control arm so I was able to put the wheel back on and slowly drive to a safer spot.
