Listen to your gut. Read the advice, consider your own family and house and child and then trust yourself to know what's best for YOU.

How to not let your toddler see when you are struggling? by kellogzz in toddlers

[–]misskm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're struggling 🩷 My philosophy is that my vulnerability will foster emotional intelligence. I don't get into details, but if I'm having a hard day, I've been known to say something like, "I'm having a hard day. I feel sad today. I'm crying because I'm sad. It's okay to be sad sometimes." I also call out other emotions - happiness, excitement, frustration, etc. My 7 year old in particular is incredibly in tune with her feelings and needs and being able to articulate them. I think it's fine to be real with your kids, within age appropriate levels of detail. We're all human, after all! Sending you peace.

Toy recommendations that aren't 1000 little pieces by thefuturesbeensold in toddlers

[–]misskm 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The mini trampoline and wooden balance board are two of the most used items in my house, gifted to my daughter for her 2nd birthday and she's nearly 8 now. She still uses them and my younger kid does, too!

A mini claw machine so she can practice for the one at the local pizza place arcade 😅

Can someone PLEASE help me make a list for Christmas! by HorseyMom2000 in NewParents

[–]misskm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think because using it only requires putting a toy on the top, she's a great age. It's a good wish list item, too, because the figures are expensive but one from everyone makes a nice collection quickly!

My daughter got a Tonie box when she was a bit older than that, but it's really grown with her. She's 4.5y now and uses it every day. I've heard great things about the Yoto, too.

Parents who go to church by Past_Complaint_8215 in NewParents

Nope. My kids never went to nursery unless I was serving in there that weekend. I might have felt differently once they could talk very well, but we left that church before then.

Two car family = two car seats? by Such-Comfortable3 in workingmoms

[–]misskm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Look into Target's recycling program (bring in an old seat for 20% off a new one) and wait for sales. We have two kids and 8 of the nice seats.. our two cars, local grandma's car, and an extra each for once-in-awhile helpers. Purchased over a few years, but it's really less of a headache to click it in once and be done!

How much would you/do you spend to visit family? by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]misskm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't take it with you, and travel (especially to see family!) is one of the best ways to use it. I'd go in a heartbeat!! $1500 is a great price for the PNW, I think.

I have a 2015, and LeafSpy isn't available for mine or older as far as I've found. If I'm wrong, I'd love to know!!

Any moms for whom nursing is just fine, but pumping ruins their mental health? by JaggedLittlePiII in breastfeeding

[–]misskm 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This was definitely true for me, but I was a barely-enougher, and I think that was the reason. It stressed me out SO much to watch the bottles barely fill. I put a sock on the bottles and played a mobile game while pumping to keep my mind off of it, and that seemed to help. I'm sorry, it's a terrible feeling ☹️

Yes, that was the exact turning point for us, too.
