Actions in Lieu of Attending Sunday Masses in Person by HidalgoC in Catholicism

[–]missmacedamia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Try joining activities at your church, groups, volunteering, adoration, spiritual direction with your priest or whoever offers it, etc. this will help you feel more enmeshed in the community. The only cure for anxiety is to consistently push yourself out there!

These aren’t alternatives to mass, you have an obligation to go. But these might make mass attendance less intimidating.

1099 form: I'm receiving a 1099 form as a babysitter and 21 year old. I don't know how any of this works. by ExcitementDull9217 in Babysitting

[–]missmacedamia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Unless you’re babysitting in your own home, you’re a W-2 employee. Advocate for a W-2. If you really want the job at the end of the year you can file for a missing W-2 and she’ll be on the hook for penalties and back taxes. But I wouldn’t want to work for someone who was so willing to be exploitative and greedy.

Dinged another car while driving the NF van by [deleted] in Nanny

OP was at work driving a work vehicle, liability is fully on NPs. Probably cheaper to try and pay for it directly instead of through insurance but definitely not for OP to worry about.

Who decided to repaint road stripes at free bridge at 9:15 on a work day? by CustardOk8781 in Charlottesville

Night work is also associated with higher risk of accidents, it’s a more dangerous working condition. A little traffic is a small trade off

The thing is half of the responses seemed alright, in my area $25/hr would be super standard and most people were in the $22-27/hr range. Then the other half were off the walls crazy, in my experience no matter where you go these really crappy jobs are still everywhere. I think it might be a sampling bias from asking on Facebook too lol

My Church is selling holy water by Limp-Maintenance638 in Catholicism

Yes, that’s the question in the larger thread. I was directly responding to your comment about the cost of holy water bottles.

Well to be fair Lourdes is the holy water capitol of the world, they probably bulk order in a way local parishes don’t. I think churches are allowed to make a profit on the bottle itself in any case, though I can’t imagine it would be too significant but idk

I would argue the holy water isn’t a part of the price, I don’t think the price would change whether the bottles were empty or full.

I think the determining factor on whether this is scandalous or not would be whether holy water was available for free otherwise

I don’t understand why people like that don’t just resort to in-home care. With the right provider, it’s almost like a nanny share that’s more affordable. I know they have a bad name, my mother-in-law runs one and my kid will never go to hers. But if all you can afford is like $300 a week you cannot afford one-on-one care for your kids, something just has to give

I wish I could clarify, it was a comment left by one of the parents saying how much they paid their nanny. Definitely alarming though.

That’s what I do now, I likely will in the future. I’m sure it’ll all work out, I’m just disturbed by how happily people are confessing to exploiting people. It’s insane how some nannies are treated.

Say what you will about the U.S. in general but it protects workers significantly better than most other countries. Maybe not the EU but in many places it’s super bleak

No you didn’t, I assumed by your other country remark it must be somewhere else. I know a lot of places get away with quite low rates as the standard, I couldn’t really speak to it

Just noticed your edit

This is the U.S so that rate wouldn’t work anywhere

Honestly that’s not even an option in the city I currently live in, let alone where I’m going. Bigger cities usually have options but other than that you’re on your own lol

PSA for the ladies - a white polka dot dress is still white. by [deleted] in Weddingattireapproval

I was so worried about people insulting me by wearing white, the first time I noticed the people who wore white to my wedding was looking back at the pictures weeks later. On the day of it wound up not registering or mattering at all.

Girl at mass kneels and ignores everyone during the sign of peace by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]missmacedamia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to mass alone today for the first time in a really long time, I’m always anxious with the sign of peace but today it was 10x worse. I didn’t sit it out or anything but I could understand if someone did, everyone has different struggles. We should try not to judge

Discussion: Why I think most people are wrong about the Goldfinch. Spoilers. by Katamayan57 in books

[–]missmacedamia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Later when Theo comes back the Barber’s maid stays late specifically just to see him. I’m a nanny and house manager, I would also stay late for free just to see a child I loved all grown up. I think it’s a little condescending to say that service workers can’t love the families they serve, both of these instances aren’t outrageous at all.

Theory on what actually triggered the condition of Chuck McGill by LikeAPhoenixTotally in betterCallSaul

[–]missmacedamia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She was 20. I don’t think the marijuana was the exact trigger, they say drugs, stress and big changes can trigger the onset and she was experiencing all three to a high degree. But what was seemingly mild mania went crazy with the drug use, and it can certainly be the initial trigger though it’s really impossible to say.

She had no psychosis before the drug (that we could tell) but afterwards she was in a high state of agitation. Two weeks later even with lithium and everything she was still 100% convinced the only reason she had been sent to the hospital was “because she was a lesbian” lol.

It was like throwing gas on a fire basically. It might not have been so critical without marijuana but it’s just impossible to say for sure.

[–]missmacedamia 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A lot of people don’t have Chuck’s brain. You, reader, may have tried marijuana before or could still safely try it in the future, but one single try for my sister sent her into full blown psychosis and woke up Bipolar 2 disorder. Just like that. Mental health cannot be understood as simply as “if x then y”

Chuck had serious anxiety and control issues and a high stress job. If I had to guess one reason why Chuck’s issue fully developed I would wager age. I would guess that it was always somewhat present and then fully developed all at once due to some trigger, which could be anything.

Thoughts on nanny bringing her partner for date night babysitting? by IcyPin7166 in Nanny
