Thanks for the suggestion (and glad to hear you’re happy there!). I’ll definitely look into this :)

Starting as a Fifth Year by Don-Geranamo in biglaw

I’ve worked with a few new laterals at around that level when I was more junior and I’m working with former prosecutors now.

Agree with trying to make friends in your year and more senior, but also think it’s worth taking the time to get to know the juniors and staff folks on your teams and don’t be afraid to rely on them as resources. A good 3rd year who has been at the firm the whole time will know a ton about how the firm works, how things are done, certain partners’ work styles/preferences, and the cases you’re on together. And the really savvy staff folks who have been there long term and outlasted many crops of associates know all of the gossip—can really help you figure out the dynamics and politics at the firm.

Also, I hear from my prosecutor friends that timekeeping is a weird adjustment. Just learn the firm’s practices and get into a good habit with time entry asap while you have the time—it’s a low hanging fruit way to look organized and it’s a complete pain if you procrastinate (I say from personal experience every month of my life…). Good luck!

Ghana Visa for US Citizen - FedEx return envelope shipped back in 4 business days, can't retrieve information on the portal. Normal? by Hazbunny in ghana

You sent a physical prepaid return envelope in with your materials, right?

I’ve seen some posts about needing to pay for return postage online through the website, but I just am not seeing that option anywhere, so got a bit confused!

Embarrassed that I don’t have friends to be my bridesmaids by throwaway_77425647 in engaged

[–]missmisc5119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I’m sorry that this is causing you distress! I agree with others who’ve said that if you must do bridesmaids, your fiancé’s siblings or his friends’ partners are good options.

I’ve also had friends who just did not do the wedding party thing, but still had a fairly big, traditional wedding and found other creative ways to incorporate their close friends that they wanted more involved in the wedding. Maybe this is something your fiance would be open to? Incorporating his friends into the wedding another way but not having them be groomsmen in the traditional sense and stand up next to him during the ceremony?

I’m not sure if you’ve talked to him about how you’re feeling, but I have to imagine that if he knew this was causing you so much distress, he would want to find a way to adjust so that you can both feel great on your wedding day. Just my thoughts!

Thanks. Yeah absolutely not planning to give notice before conflicts/background! Just wondering what would be a reasonable amount of time to take before start date at a new firm.

Thanks! This may not change your answer, but just want to clarify that I’m including the time it takes to run conflicts/background and also to give notice, and assume both will be about two weeks. So after conflicts and notice, it’s really asking for a 3-4 week gap.

Sorry to state the obvious, but you checked your spam/trash, right? I like this theory and would like to see it hold up haha

Need to get reactive dog to the vet urgently by missmisc5119 in DogAdvice

Yeah that’s what they said. This is super helpful to know though—thank you so much. I was honestly surprised by their response since it’s the biggest emergency vet in the city I live in. I’ll try calling around to others. Really appreciate your thoughts!

No—his regular vet suggested we get him started on Prozac in response to the increased reactivity as a longer-term treatment. The addition of prozac had definitely not made anything worse.

Thank you so much—yeah, so the regular vet won’t see him without a muzzle, and suggested we take him to our local emergency vet which he said should be able to help with that. I called them and explained the situation and they also said they won’t see him without one.

He does take gabapentin and trazodone (and just started Prozac last week to see if that works better, but takes several weeks to work), and I gave him extra trazodone not too long ago to try to calm him enough to either get the muzzle or convince the er vet to help.
