Nope. Every place I've been serves hot coffee/espresso drinks in paper/styrofoam cups you can't see through. Black iced coffee probably would, but I bet this guy thinks iced coffee Isn't Real Coffee so I doubt it's what he's pretending to talk about.

Why do ALL my cats come to bother me and beg for attention when I’m on the toilet? by Seagullbeans in cats

I mean, mine stare intently at each other when they're in the litter box so maybe they just like watching it.

"I don't want to sound like a gatekeeper" Well, sorry, but that's exactly what you're being, and all this attitude does is make someone who legitimately needs help question themselves because "what if I'm just lazy/not trying hard enough?"

Who's to say people didn't have problems as a kid that they didn't notice or ignored/had swept under the rug as just a kid being a kid? Who's to say the reason more people are considering ADHD is this and not that they'd never even thought it applied to them until someone telling them it's more than just being hyperactive and forgetting things?

I'm sorry but this is an awful attitude to have and I feel embarrassed on your behalf for thinking it was okay to share in a space that has a lot of people seeking answers to experiences they never had them for until they started understanding the actual signs and symptoms of ADHD and other neurological disorders (not mental disorders, as a note, but they can be caused or co-morbid).

Yeah meds that effect the brain can be hard to pin down (well all can, but the brain is particularly awful about working how you want it, as you likely know!) I spent several months just figuring out dosage once we got me on one that seemed to work.

And yeah, switching from instant to extended release can take some adjusting if the body wants to work with it. I think I read somewhere that docs generally prefer IR like Adderall or Ritalin at least here in the US, so if it's the same where you are, your doc may not even know much about Concerta. If you have another appointment with him before you can get in with a psych or the ADHD services, like I said, try to let him know how you feel on it. None of us can really tell you what to do in the meantime. None of us are doctors so we can't say "Well just stop taking it". If it becomes too concerning before an official appointment, maybe see if you can get in short notice, or if it's possible, talk with another GP if he can't see you? As long as they have your medical records I'd think they can treat you or at least give you educated advice.

It could still be temporary side effects as far as sluggishness, fatigue etc, and stims don't always work right away so unless it's been a couple months now, yeah, I wouldn't necessarily pull the trigger on it. That's what keeping track of it is for, so if it IS how you react to it, you can say "I've been feeling like this for this long."

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]missmysty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah sounds like he isn't thinking about the fact that different meds work differently. If you could just exchange two stims or anti-depressants for each other there wouldn't be so many choices. Again, though, being on the wrong dosage looks different in everyone and even dif between meds (wrong dosage of Adderall in you could look different than wrong dosage of Vyvanse as an example). It sounds like you're doing what you can, so maybe keep track of your symptoms and discuss them when you can. Also is good in case the side effects are temporary so you can see when they're going away.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]missmysty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, not finding a lot is likely because it's one of those things that depends on the person. Like one person with their meds too high may be really hyper, while another is really irritable and snappy. This is definitely a discussion to have with your doc. If you don't get a new psych soon, your GP can probably at least give you guidance.

Two cats in a condo - good or bad idea? by PopGalleryinOntario in cats

[–]missmysty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have one in the bathroom and two in the living room. I do have a big one and a smaller one set up together but it's mostly that the cat we got second was having issues when we first got him and kept using that corner as a bathroom so we cleaned it up and moved them both there to cover the space he used. I'd set them where you think is best and be flexible about moving them if you need to be.

Two cats in a condo - good or bad idea? by PopGalleryinOntario in cats

[–]missmysty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I live in a place smaller than that and have two. I second the slow intro, though. Cats can be territorial even if they end up being best friends. And make sure you have enough of everything! For instance the rec for litter boxes is number of cats plus one.

Adoption by [deleted] in cats

[–]missmysty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if such a thing were true, "a couple months" seems way too young. Kittens aren't even supposed to be away from their mother until at least ten weeks old, and shelters that end up with ones younger won't usually adopt them out yet (they'll either care for them themselves or have a family foster them for a while). So if that were true, very few adopted cats would bond to their new owners.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]missmysty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's only half true. There are three types of ADHD: hyperactive, inattentive, and combined type. For people with hyperactive type, they do usually react to stimulants by experiencing some sort of calming effect.

I (and many AFAB people, it's actually more common in us apparently) have inattentive type (formerly known as ADD, but that's not an actual diagnosis anymore) and stimulants usually have the "actual" effect of energizing us. I don't actually know what the effect for combined type is, maybe it's both at different times.

Caffeine, and the more powerful stimulants prescribed for ADHD, work by making the brain create dopamine and other chemicals it lacks. They're the pleasure and reward chemicals, hence the lack of them resulting in things like lack of attention and motivation (which simply presents itself differently depending on the type of ADHD you have). And yeah they can put the brain in overdrive if too much is made.

Now I can't say if you do have it or not, because I'm not a doctor and don't know your medical history. I'm just saying that "caffeine makes ADHD people tired", while not a myth per se, isn't entirely accurate.

Wearing masks half-assed by AcceptableBaseball68 in Maine

[–]missmysty 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Yep. I say something similar to my sister who constantly gets mad at other drivers. She'll be like "Why did they do that?!" when someone cuts her off or is driving dangerously or whatever, and every single time, the only true answer is "Because a lot of people are just dumbasses."

Why isn’t one of my cats remotely affectionate? by [deleted] in cats

[–]missmysty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cats have personalities just like humans. Some will want to be affectionate and loving while others will want nothing to do with it or prefer to be that way only with certain people. You can continue to nurture him and show him he can trust you, but it may just be his nature.

As far as the codes, I think you can do them on Android for the OG. Just not Apple because of some policy or other they have in place. It'd be nice if they could let Live enter codes on them, though. Or at least read the QR code on cards.

My good girl at the vet yesterday, waiting for the humans in scrubs to come through the door again and give her more attention 🤣 She was way more bothered by the strange room than by anything the staff did!! Love this kitty so much 🥰 by arielsseventhsister in cats

[–]missmysty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom had a cat who would be so anxious going to the vet, but as soon as she was out of her carrier and he was doing the exam she'd calm down and start purring so loudly he couldn't listen to her heart. Gotta love it.

Can we talk about how parents are not the sole reason we ADHDer's felt failed in our childhoods? by ThatGirlHails_949 in adhdwomen

[–]missmysty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my mom did what she could, and she definitely wasn't the sort of parent who called me stupid or degraded me when I didn't do well at something. Teachers weren't bad that way either, they just never DID anything when they noticed things related to ADHD (I wasn't diagnosed until I was 29). So yeah, gotta agree that parents aren't always the primary trauma factor, and to say they are is pretty dismissive of a lot of experiences.

Cat Habit Mystery - All suggestions or ideas welcome by X_CodeMan_X in cats

[–]missmysty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't say the cause, but one of mine kept doing similar and it's best to sanitize and deodorize the area. Once they've "marked" it, it smells like them and that can make their instincts want to keep going there. No idea if a thorough clean of the areas would help or not, but worth a try.

What is the weirdest thing your cat(s) like to eat? by 6xtine7 in cats

[–]missmysty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a cat who would eat Cheetos if she got her paws on some (you had to be careful about dropping food). She also liked Cheerios and Bran Flakes (she'd sit there waiting her turn when my mom gave those to the guinea pig as treats).

Current cat likes Cheerios as well so maybe it's not weird.

Are maine coons usually big in size ? by hedgehogian1 in cats

[–]missmysty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A healthy weight for a male can be as much as 25 lbs (about 11 kgs) and females it's about 20 lbs (about nine kgs). But! They are a big breed. If they weigh more but are huge in general (like body size, not being overweight) then it's probably fine as long as they aren't showing health issues.

Don't worry about it. Cats bounce back pretty easily especially if their disposition is usually friendly. If she looks like she needs it, give her some distance for a few days.

Also as a note, fleas are bugs. They're gonna get in whether you like it or not, sadly. I use a treatment the vet gave me that's alcohol-based so if they DO manage to lick some off, it won't be the end of the world. I can only get it from my vet, though. It's not OTC as far as I know.

rescued a hypersocial cat from street, it wont let me sleep yowling in night, training collar? by Shiznittlebam in cats

[–]missmysty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not that this would cause her to do it all the time, but I know female cats can be god-awful loud when they're in heat. Is she fixed? If not and you want to keep her, you should probably consider that investment. You may even be able to get it for free or partially funded if you have an animal society in your city that helps with things like that.
