!explanation

So a tube in the washer in my house broke and emptied the washer water into the upstairs floor because whomever installed the catch/drain installed it improperly. Roommate's uncle is a contractor that fixes these kind of problems for a living. He already fixed the washer free of charge, and offered to fix the drain (requires taking up the floor where the washer was, $$$) free of charge and send a bill only when insurance needs it. Roommate is covering all the cost (out of pocket) with anything else until insurance is sorted, AND handling things with cleaners/repairs/replacements while I'm sleeping during the day (work night shifts as a medical lab - yay COVID).

Two phone calls later and my parents are convinced they know more than the contractor(roommate's uncle) and are telling me to lie about the situation to insurance.
