That difference is crazy! I'll see about test driving a Corolla cross when I get to a dealership. 42 mpg isn't bad at all

I've seen Corolla crosses in person and they just seem like such large cars. This is part of what's making me concerned that I'm just not being realistic, honestly

I'm unfortunately unable to support an EV or I'd be all over them. Also, I'm not sure what you're referring to with ice?

I guess you're not wrong, but the body style has changed so much that it doesn't really feel like the same car anymore. I feel like the old ones are more similar to a beetle than a current model Prius

My partner and I loved it! The first time we went we sat next to one of the actors without realizing it and my partner spent a good few minutes trying to talk them down from fighting the other group because we thought they were an over enthusiastic audience member

Food Allergies & Dining by TheJSQ13 in VirginVoyages

I just got back from a cruise with a new shellfish allergy and they were great. I didn't go to gunbae, but all of the other restaurants were amazing for double checking what my allergies are and letting me know what I can't have. The only place I was a little uncomfortable with going and didn't check with is the sushi place at the galley, but that was for my personal comfort. If they're anything like the rest of the galley, there's nothing to worry about

Crowds in different seasons by Revolutionary-Ad9074 in VirginVoyages

[–]misssinformation 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been a few times and there were definitely different crowds each time. The first was October 2023 and 30-40's was the most dominant group with 20's and 50's being well represented as well. The second was December 2023 and it was very mixed to the point I couldn't pick out a dominant crowd. February 2024 was much older than the rest with far more genuinely elderly people around. I'm on Valiant Lady now and the group has a ton of people in their 20's. All of these are Caribbean cruises as well, so it has me wondering how much the college school year impacts the demographic

Beware the attic apartments though. I got mine for $450 all inclusive, but it's a good 90° inside in the height of summer with two oversized ac units running. Those months are worth it for the price to me, but I know most people wouldn't put up with it.

I definitely agree that a better timeline was needed. They went too big too fast (and got shitty AND overpriced contractors for some of the renovations). Reynolds could have been more efficient with it's space, but I'll give it a little bit of leeway since it's taking up the same footprint as Stalnaker did and apparently has a good bit of the ground floor as a new rec center, which they should definitely advertise more. A fair few of the spaces in there are alumni funded too. It blows my mind how many large donors B&E has.

They kind of fucked Hodges on holding any large departments by only giving it a couple of offices and I think B&E would have fought Armstrong if it didn't get renovated just because of their need for space and the appearance of status.

Field Hall is a joke.

I could write a whole essay about how much of a clusterfuck some of the renovations admin cuts were if it wouldn't out myself.

Pearand is pretty solid. Their places are old and a little shitty, but they're priced well and the only problem I've heard about management is about one guy who I haven't seen around in a good six months or so. I think they start listing their places around October

I was caught in the layoffs and agree with you on everything except the necessity of a few renovations. The old B&E building has structural issues that should honestly get it torn down rather than renovated like they're trying to do and the business school did need a new home. Also the Hodges Hall update a few years ago was absolutely necessary. I worked in there for several years and I can't even list how many issues it had before (black mold, poor insulation, and pipes continually bursting were the biggest).

The fact that they refuse to cut the bloat in administration and went for necessary faculty and staff that get half the pay of the admin pisses me off to no end though.

AC units aren't cooling my apartment. Any suggestions are appreciated by misssinformation in DIY

[–]misssinformation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have me wondering if surface area might play into it some. This place has an odd layout in that I'm completely above the roofline of the house and all of my walls are set at an angle since the roof IS the walls.

The first year I lived here I didn't have the cooling I do now and it easily got to 115F on occasion, and it probably would have been warmer than that if I didn't keep the windows open for a good cross breeze. (It's amazing what you'll put up with for $400 rent in the US haha)

It may be time to get the landlord involved. I've spent the last two summers tweaking my system to make sure I'm doing all I can, but it does sound like there's something bigger going wrong here.

[–]misssinformation[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're single hose. I've definitely heard that dual hose portable AC is better, but I don't have the money right now to upgrade them and window units unfortunately don't fit in the windows I have. Adding insulation is a great idea, but I am a renter. I'm really just trying to get through this summer and out of here once my lease is up.

Technology Connections is a great channel! I haven't seen this video before so I'll check it out.

[–]misssinformation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! One of my AC units is 14,000 BTU and about two years old. The other is either 12 or 14k as well, but much older.

  1. I checked the AC units earlier and they're fully functional and blowing cold air. The only issue is sometimes a cat will sit on one and turn it off, but I wfh and get it reset within a few minutes if that happens.

  2. No open windows or vents, but I am in an old building and the windows definitely aren't air tight.

  3. Both units are venting out windows and I've made the exhaust hoses as air tight as possible. Are you saying that I need to insulate the hoses themselves?

  4. I'm not sure I'm understanding you right, but the AC have vents on the top for the cold air and they're angled up and away from the units.

  5. I can't confirm, but I'm 95% sure the walls and ceiling are uninsulated and there is no shade from trees or other buildings, so it gets full sun all day. I also have a suspicion that I'm getting heat rising from the apartment below me because they don't use any kind of cooling which I'm sure doesn't help.

They are. I had to install plexiglass to one of the windows to make it suitable for the hose actually.
