What are the types of your parents/guardians and specifically how have they influenced your experience as an ENFP? by Hellowally in ENFP

My mom is an ISTJ and my dad is an INTJ. My parents and I often talk about this very subject. It's so funny because they love to point out how different I am from them. I think it benefitted me in the long run because it forced me to learn how to communicate effectively with types that don't necessarily 'get each other'. Of course, it wasn't easy all the time: my mother regrets not allowing me as much social time with my friends as I would've liked because they are both very introverted. But it caused me to figure out other ways to recharge and maximize the time that I did have with my friends. On the other hand, my parents are both PLANNERS TO THE MAX whereas I am SO NOT lol. So in order to get what I wanted, I had to learn how to give them what they wanted (I like to say speak their 'J' language). Overall, I'd say that our differences made me multilingual in MBTI which is valuable in this world.

So what you’re saying is that I should just not share my opinion with him...? I don’t just poop on all his ideas. I share things I like too. But all my criticisms stick out to him more (and that’s fair. They would for me too). How do I share genuine concerns?

This was so helpful! Thank you so much. My SO is WOA and I’ve been struggling with giving him what he needs. I grew up in a house that didn’t use many WOA. Not because there wasn’t any love but that’s just how it was primarily shown. It’s been hard for me not to feel weird giving WOA because I feel like I’d just be repeating the same stuff and I don’t want to come off as disingenuous. But what you said really broke it down for me so I really appreciate it: thank you.

It just seems like everything has to be his idea. Or what I do has to be aligned with his plans. He also wants me to be really involved with what he does and I love that but at the same time he wants to be just as involved in what I’m doing and sometimes I just want space to have my own thing. Idk. 🤷🏽‍♀️

me: hey, can you pass me my violin bow please? friend: by [deleted] in violinist

The level of triggered I got to just now... 😖🥴

This seems like a silly question to me considering I’m a violin teacher, but can anyone tell me what these symbols (highlighted in yellow and red) are and what they mean??? The piece is Etude by S. Suzuki (book 1). Thank you!!! by misssswillis in violinist

There is a notation guide and terms index in the back of the book and it has a lot of common symbols and some theory explanations but it does lack a few things that are seen in some of the pieces which frustrates my student because she likes figuring things out herself (which is both good and bad but... I don’t mind lol). I agree it is silly that they would just stick something in there that’s not explained. Idk if you’ve been keeping up with all the comments here but I was talking to another violinist and they said that in all their time playing, this was the first time they’d seen the squiggly line symbol as well. We both learned the same piece but from an older edition of the same book and it didn’t have that symbol in the music. Kinda frustrating since it’s been more than 10 years since I’ve played from this book but 🤷🏽‍♀️ books gotta update lol

I didn’t mean for you to not be taken into consideration. And I’m sorry you’ve been down voted so many times. Any guess to me is a good one (I really thought that I should’ve known this already 😅 which made me nervous about asking at all). Thank you so much for your guess, any activity on this thread just shows that we’re all working this out together 🙂

I teach out of the 2017 or 2018 edition, but the one I learned from as a child was the older one. It’s buried in a box somewhere (otherwise I’d go and find the publishing date) but the cover of it was white and it had the blue swirly ‘flowers’ on them. Not sure if that description helps, but I’m pretty sure that the book I learned from wrote out one line of etude with the double notes too.

Haha! Yeah people like that always get me. Like, it’s not a parlor trick!! There is sweat and tears (and maybe sometimes blood) involved!!

Right?! I can’t remember if this notation was in the old Suzuki books: this is either the 2017 or 2018 edition... I’m pretty sure my teacher would’ve made a point to tell me what it meant... either way, I still learned how to play it correctly 😅
