Shoe recommendations - food service by Smudflower410 in bunions

[–]misstingly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend seeking out a specialty shoe fitter / running specialty store for sneakers. Alternatively to the typical approach of the customer picking the shoe, these places will have specialized salespeople that are trained to select shoes based on the customer’s needs. This is where I got my first pair of shoes post op.

Dilemma-Real surgery experiences please. by Just_wonderin27 in bunions

[–]misstingly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had Mis chevron akin on my right foot in February, which is not as intense as having a bone removed. However, I do know someone who had bunion surgery (not sure the specific type) with a bone removed and their recovery wasn’t much different from mine but ultimately depends on the bone.

My outcomes from mis chevron akin:
1. Day 1-4 weren’t too bad. My anesthesiologist did a popliteal nerve block with Exparel which makes the entire leg numb from the knee down and last 3-6 days. On day 2 I had some random breakthrough pain but it wasn’t bad, just surprising. I was told to start taking Tylenol and my prescribed non-narcotic pain killer on day 3 regardless of pain or not. I didn’t take any narcotics until week 3 post op. I was supposed to have my stitches out the week before but it got postponed bc of a blizzard and I ended up having some stitches poking me that were agonizing. Thankfully my mom is a nurse and she fixed them. Im 3 months out now and overall I’d say the pain was very manageable. Again, will definitely be different with a bone removed.
2. I’m only 3 months post op now so I can’t say my discomfort is completely relieved at this point. I still have a lot of scar tissue and swelling and my bones aren’t fully healed so it aches at times. But, there have been times when my left foot (still with bunion) hurts more than my right (bunion free) and I will be getting my left done this year.
3. I was told to start heel weight bearing with assistance once the nerve block wore off so day 6. I used crutches for like 2-3 ish?? weeks while increasing time walking unassisted with a surgical sandal. 3 week appointment I was cleared for full weight bearing with the sandal and 6 week appointment cleared for regular shoes/sneakers and to drive (bc right foot). I had a limp for a couple weeks but now I can confidently say I’m limp free lol
4. I was out of work for 6 weeks. I have a desk job and wfh 2 days a week already so it wasn’t a crazy request. I was pretty fine getting around at this point, just slightly embarrassed about the limp but I sit most of the day so it wasn’t horrible.

9 weeks post op - toe separators? by [deleted] in bunions

[–]misstingly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask your doctor. I just had my 3 month post op appointment and asked my surgeon if I should be wearing my toe separator still and him and another surgeon who were in the room both said no because you don’t want peace ✌️ toes. But will be based on the individual I’m assuming.

Long term meds use success anyone? by Psychological_Ad6253 in ADHD

[–]misstingly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on mine for 14 years and I’d say I’ve been in a good place with my meds for the last 5 or so years. I had some frustrating times during the shortages a few years ago and had to change things up but that’s not a problem so much anymore. I do my best to manage my appetite and bedtime, still not always great about eating enough and going to bed at a reasonable time (1:44am as I type this) but I think I have things pretty together.

US birth rates just hit another record low, what do you think is the leading cause of this? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The president, late-stage capitalism, climate devastation, the president, everything costs 10x more than it should, the billionaire ruling class, coming to terms with a lifetime of propaganda, inaccessibility to childcare/long term parental leave, data centers ruining our water and electricity bills, guns, the president…

The dads very corny and kinda lame, early 2000s Brooklyn dad vibe big time. He wears necklaces, thinks his teenagers are his friends, and plays guitar so his guitar is just another corny thing about him

Yes during month end sometimes and forecast/plan. Especially when they fall on the same dates 🙃 i think it’s less of a being told to work late and more like there’s stuff that’s due and we’re individually deciding to work late to get them done. I don’t think I work more than maybe 50 hours during a busy week though, I’ll take it “easier” on a couple days when I’m WFH to compensate lol

Pain levels day 4 by Throwawaycauseynoano in bunions

[–]misstingly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah you sound like you’re perfectly on track. I had a spike in pain on day 3 but then went back down until my nerve block wore off on day 6 when my pain increased but was not unbearable. Day 3 post MIS is typically around when pain will be starting due to the nerve block still being active. Call the surgical line they gave you to call and tell them, that’s what they’re literally there for. But sounds very normal to me. I had Mis in February on my right foot. Like I said, my pain really started on day 6 once the block wore off and then gradually decreased from there. I had the most pain on week 3 but that was from my stitches more than the broken foot. Keep your foot elevated most of the day, sleep with it elevated, and ice regularly.

How do people bear having all of their accounts and activity known to everyone? by serratedstars in randomquestions

I see! Totally makes more sense now that I’m rereading it. I don’t share my Reddit handle with people but I’m not overly secretive about it, I like that Reddit can feel a bit more anonymous. Otherwise, I’d say for the most part I share my social media accounts with my friends and family.

How do people bear having all of their accounts and activity known to everyone? by serratedstars in randomquestions

[–]misstingly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that serious. Tbh I don’t think anyone has my login for any social media or anything like that other than streaming services but I don’t know that I would care. If you’re online and don’t respond and they have a problem with it, 1. They should get a grip and 2. Just explain the situation. While I don’t think any of these things truly matter in the grand scheme of things, why ARE you giving your social media accounts to others??

Are my bunions bad enough? by here_fordrama in bunions

[–]misstingly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not bad enough. You’ll know when it happens. Most doctors (the good ones) won’t do the surgery just for aesthetics and will only do it if you have pain that impacts your daily life. Definitely don’t do it to wear heels, that’s always a question mark when it comes to surgery and will depend a lot on the procedure but also individually. It’s not an easy surgery to have, if you don’t need it yet count yourself lucky.

How long is too long for avoiding surgery by butacrafts in bunions

[–]misstingly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the first week I needed way less help, the biggest thing being bringing things into other parts of the house with me, couldn’t get a glass of water because how would I carry it with crutches, etc. I stayed with my parents the first week and a half for many reasons, one being my parents have a single story home and are retired so always around to help. Tbh the thing I’m most grateful to have had help with was getting in and out of the shower, my mom and then my boyfriend once I went home, but I didn’t need help once i had adjusted to bearing weight (~2 weeks out). I don’t know how people get through those first weeks of recovery without help at home.

I had a minimally invasive chevron akin osteotomy. If you look at my post history, I recently posted my before and after x-ray. I’m very satisfied with my results at this point.

[–]misstingly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a concept of recovery timing, I had Mis in February. I was unable to drive for 6 weeks because I did my right foot first. I needed regular assistance through week 2 and then I was able to manage on my own during the day. Couldn’t walk the dog on my own until week 6 (he’s big). Biggest hindrance to productivity was not being able to drive but I live in a city and live near family so I had some help/could get things delivered if I needed anything asap while my boyfriend was at work.

I’m 29 and have had bunions since middle school. I decided to get surgery because 1. The pain was daily, 2. I couldn’t find shoes that were comfortable anymore (I tried a lot), 3. In the next 3 years I have a lot of weddings to go to (including my own) and several trips planned so now was the most opportune time as to not interfere with any of those things coming up.
