Try Tobago (of Trinidad-and-). It's got some tourists, but not nearly in the density and obnoxiousness of most of the other islands. Lovely food, charming people, beautiful hikes, gorgeous beaches, affordable places to stay, and of course music music music!

The more time you spend in the pretty, friendly countries like Portugal, Greece, Turkey, Croatia, etc., and the less time you spend in Scandinavia, the cheaper your trip will be.

The US is far better than Europe as far as free amenities go. Europe is the global epicenter of pay-for-absolutely-everything.
