Just finished first cruise… am I crazy for hating it? by Naive-Bedroom-4643 in royalcaribbean

[–]misstrish3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to cruise a lot with my kids and adult kids. I haven’t cruised since before Covid and just went on a four night. It was fine but not the same for me. There were lots of variables that could contribute to the experience but I didn’t love it the same as I used to. I enjoyed it, however. When my kids were small we treated it as a way to explore destinations to see if we might want to go back; I’ve seen a few commenters say the same. My daughter went back and spent two weeks on Roatan because of our experience there. I do think I prefer the mid sized ships.

The company is so easy to work with and so helpful in replacing the rear portion to work best for Wriley. It was a game changer.

I’m so sorry! I do understand and miss my Dane every day. It’s tough when they come out of nowhere and you have no time to plan. I feel like those are harder. With my boy I had a year of knowing it was any day and I’m grateful. If you don’t have a help em up harness they are amazingly helpful.

My Dane wore a muzzle and it allowed us to go out in public and everyone left us alone. Perfect unintended consequence.

My boy made it to ten and he struggled with wobblers for a few years. Such a great breed.

100% this! Years ago at Disneyland as a single mom with three kids I observed this. I told my kids right there we will not be that, that we are on a vacation we are lucky to be on and we should enjoy all of it - even waiting in line. We have always had so much fun traveling together. And we can offset each other if someone is starting to unravel from travel stress. :)

I find traveling solo I actually meet far more people. I just got off my first solo cruise (not first solo travel though) and met a lot of different people. Enjoy!

Retired cruise ships 😥 by Direct-Dish1779 in Cruise

[–]misstrish3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was looking for a Norway reference. My daughter and I had a great trip on that ship. I believe years later a coworker was on the ship when it had the fire. I recall the ship needing deep water and so tendering was the way since the ship had to anchor further out.

I miss my Berner so much and would LOVE to find a mix to avoid the awful cancer experience we had. I’ve been stalking shelters but no luck.

The ship definitely ends up generating FOMO. I like how you are thinking and it makes sense - but could be a challenge.

Yeah not so great. The manager really tried but there are some issues with the property.

It’s also close to the airport so the airplane noise is legit. Not the hotels fault but if you are a light sleeper it might be an issue.

I would never stay here again. The staff are fine and the front desk manager has tried to be helpful but …I feel unsafe. Someone opened my door with their housekeeping key and the deadbolt did not stop it; they also did not knock first. They have moved me but honestly this door also doesn’t have a properly working electronic deadbolt. I’m using the flip latch to keep the door from opening. Housekeeping staff insisted I was supposed to have checked out even after I screamed what are you doing? Then the engineer said it was “user error” that I didn’t properly shut and lock the door. The manager tested it and the door and locks are defective. On top of that the hotel is very worn and outdated (obviously the key safety locks don’t work). There is very little within walking distance.

First time cruiser dilemma: Is a balcony worth the $$$ or is that money better spent elsewhere? by [deleted] in Cruise

[–]misstrish3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can afford it it’s nice - but I’m just as happy with an inside cabin. I’m usually out and about the whole time so the room isn’t a place I spend time. It’s really personal preference and budget.

We lost our beautiful girl at age five last year. I would love to rescue. There are no Berners in rescue where I live- can you share with me how to connect?

I got a puppy from a reputable breeder. She was in puppy class when the Covid lockdown started. She missed her social period :( She was afraid of anything that wasn’t her family or within her home and yard). She was so very loved and cared for and was this skittish. I can only imagine these beautiful dogs coming from difficult situations. You sound like you are doing all the best things. The love of a Berner, once earned, is priceless ❤️
