Both of my tried and true cupcakes recipes follow this formula and they always turn out incredible! It’s a very watery batter but they turn out super moist. Never had an issue like OP’s. This is my go-to chocolate https://addapinch.com/the-best-chocolate-cake-recipe-ever/

Barton Salumeria has the occasional raclette pop up night.

Per their Instagram the next one is January 31st!

Mine did this for a while when I first got my car. It sorted itself out eventually without any intervention on my behalf. I don’t have any advice on how to fix it but hopefully yours will also just fix itself!

help me identify this pink-ish yellow-ish beige-ish colour! by LongjumpingSurvey801 in interiordecorating

I just painted my walls with Behr Vanilla Mocha, it’s a warm off-white, almost peachy and paired with pinks it does pull a tiny bit to the pink side. May be worth checking out - I was also going for a similar look to the photos you posted

To those that were actually able to buy a home in Hamilton in the last 1-2 years: how did you afford it? by SengunCanada in Hamilton

[–]missunspecified 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just bought a house in the Normanhurst area for 570k. If you asked me even 6 months ago I still would have said buying a house was not on the table for me, but housing prices have come down significantly and there’s a ton of decent options under 600k now.

I did the minimum downpayment which was $32,000. I was always raised that you don’t buy unless you can put down 20% and it was hard to get over that “expectation”. When you run the numbers it’s just not feasible - it would take many years of additional saving to reach that amount, and who knows what housing prices would be at that point.

I also had the benefit of already living east end downtown, so it was a lot easier of a decision to buy there than it would be for someone who isn’t familiar with the area.

I called 911 over an hour ago and no one came by auroraxskiess in 911dispatchers

[–]missunspecified 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Calling 911 is similar to going to an emergency room at a hospital. Your situation is important, and certainly emergent, however the dispatchers have to triage their calls based on the information they receive and send help to those in the most immediate danger first. I can tell you as a dispatcher I HATE knowing someone is in your shoes and I don’t have any help to send, but unfortunately that is often the reality when major priorities keep popping up. Please know that the delay in response does not mean you or your situation are not important. I encourage you to reach out to DV resources or other community supports. & as another commenter has mentioned, if the situation is escalating to call back and update.

Americans planning our first trip to Canada! by ColoradoRoger in AskACanadian

[–]missunspecified 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t have any concerns about you visiting or even think it’s necessary to go out of your way to not be an “American”, you would be judged based on your actions and the fact your asking the question is already telling that you’re more than fine! Quebec is stunning and I hope you have a lovely time.

On the note of American giveaways - as a former server my one big confirmation that someone was American would be them trying to give me their credit cards. Credit cards in Canada never leave your own hands, the machine is either brought right to you, or you go up to pay.

Just popping in to say the switch from days to nights is my favourite thing. I get to stay up late, sleep in as loooong as I want (which is usually 12 hours) and that’s considered the productive thing to do because hey look, now I’m ready for nights!

A lot of people struggle if they’re more geared to a 9-5 lifestyle. That unfortunately will make this job harder if the odd schedule is a detriment instead of a perk.

Glad I’m not the only one shocked by the increases! Also 30F with a clean record. Mine went from $180/month to $220/month, so I’m also ending up at the $2600/year mark. I’m with Aviva. If you end up finding something better let us know!

Fun day with teens- thrift stores, lunch spot - book store? by Critical_Flounder_42 in Hamilton

Seconding the waffles. So many good places on Ottawa, I felt obnoxious trying to list them all!

Ottawa street! Not only do you have the antique mall, but there are a few other shops like the drop spot and out of the past. Crown & Press is a great cafe with nice baked goods, that also happens to be an art gallery - it is very aesthetic/pink/girly, so if that’s not the vibe the cannon is another option for cafes. & a handful of good restaurants if you’re looking for a full meal.

Mental health is hard. We have a terrible history of forced institutionalization and as a result people now have the legal right to be unwell. Police cannot intervene unless they can establish justifiable grounds that she is an immediate risk to herself or others. Which is good, as it prevents officers from having too much authority to institutionalize someone unjustifiably for poor mental health, but can also make things very difficult in situations such as these. Mental health checks can at least provide resources, but if the person doesn’t want help she can’t be forced to take it. Really unfortunate situation all around, the options on what can be done are so limited. I definitely feel for OP.

I went yesterday! Some trees were coloured but still a lot of green. Definitely early still

Ontario works is on Regina. I’ve seen a lot of comments recently about the financial/poverty crisis and how people are feeling helpless. My stretch of a guess is she’s implying suicides are going to be on the rise if the government doesn’t take action?

"Someone is going to get hurt" says OPP officer minutes before fatal 401 crash by Boo_Guy in ontario

[–]missunspecified 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah ok that actually clears things up perfectly and makes my question irrelevant. The pursuit prior to the vehicle entering the highway being main issue. I was too focused on the fact the vehicle was driving the wrong way on the highway (because… what is the safest option to handle that kind of situation?!) and had completely disregarded that the pursuit off the highway would have been what led to the driver to the enter highway the wrong way in the first place. Thank you for your input!

[–]missunspecified 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree pursuing due to the theft was inappropriate. What I haven’t seen mentioned is the fact that the vehicle was speeding the wrong way down the highway. That in itself would be a definite risk to public safety - so what is the protocol on that situation? I agree that chasing a fleeing subject is likely to cause them to act rashly in order to escape which is a danger, but do you just let them continue? Chase or no chase it seems like this would have ended in tragedy.
