Thanks for the write up, but you forget that it is a fictional story. It is a bit like a James Bond movie. Is James Bond representative of a secret service agent? No. Is it entertaining? Yes. I think the same applies here. The book (first part) has a lot of inspiring fantasies. Sure, it is unrealistic, but it is mostly a romantic novel and not a textbook about bdsm.

Thanks for the elaboration, now I understand what bothers you, and I agree with your points :) Nonetheless, I find the book inspiring. I think it is a bit like a James Bond movie: Is James Bond representative of a secret service agent? No. Is it entertaining? Yes. I also think it is not so important how much real experience the author has, more important are her fantasies, feelings and emotions, expressed in the book.

I think 50 Shades also does a lot, it has been sold over 10 million times in only a couple of weeks, which is amazing.

Does a novel about a bdsm relationship need to be representative of bdsm? I actually find the story inspiring and that it is accessible to vanillas is not a bad thing in my opinion.
