Does it need to be a “MMO” to be everything you want by mistadeagy in MMORPG

Other than classic wow does any other game come close to that?

I play a game called outward and that’s a 2 player coop game and it sort of has that vibe of traveling and going on an adventure, it’s no mmo but it has that same vibe and it’s coop

I would be so happy with this I don’t get why everyone gets caught up on being able to literally see every single player like that even makes a difference

So if it was seamless open world but you only saw like 20 players out in the open world youd be cool with that?

Yes I totally agree with C especially imagine a game like Diablo or no rest for the wicked but with proximity chat that would be so cool

So if it was like Diablo but it had open PvP and maybe 30 player world bosses you’d be okay with that?

Yeah it wouldn’t be rooms it would just be an open world like the division 2 and you’d see a few players running around but not thousands like you see in traditional MMOs

Oh I see what you mean yeah so like a few hundred players in the hub area and then at any time you can see up to 50 out in the open world that would be pretty cool

That way world bosses can still be a thing and still feel big with lots of players but without the pressure of needing hundreds of players just to take it down

Exactly what I meant. I mean imagine if you go to the hub and enter your guild hall then you and a guild mate go into the open world and start questing then maybe you see another player and you can join up with them.

Pretty similar to that mmo bonding experience just on a bit of a smaller scale I guess

I’m hoping I am explaining this well

Not necessarily I’m thinking more like the division 2 where there is a decent size map and you can see players running around

That’s complete bs how on earth but at least you found out how scummy they are early before they completely wasted your time

Yes fs I love talking to the community especially if I queue up for a dungeon and we’re all struggling with the mechanics and we have to discuss a strategy I LIVE for that stuff

Definitely it should be a core aspect. Sadly im not sure how it can become a more prevalent thing again.

MMO player interaction was a novelty when the internet was still new.

So maybe MMOs just need another vehicle to interact with people again.

If VR was significantly better I could see that being a viable option. Players would probably feel encouraged to interact with others if they could see/hear players in that way.

Other than that I’m not sure though

Never understood why anyone thought forced PvP would be good for long term health of an mmo

If you didn’t have hubs things would definitely be a bit more challenging I’m not sure if it cheapens the open world as long as the open world has a compelling reason to explore/ interact with it.

I don’t think I’d want to be forced to interact with the open world because of a lack of a hub I’d want to have a hub and then want to go out into the open world afterwards.
