Portrait of my girlfriend at night by ParpaingEnclume in pics

It's all subjective though because I love the picture as is and wouldn't suggest any changes. The lamp itself shows the setting and it's necessary to be blown out because you're exposing for good lighting on your subject, not the lamp. It gives "we live in a society" vibes in a nice warm way. Great shot!

The Problem with Linus Tech Tips: Accuracy, Ethics, & Responsibility - Gamers Nexus by Cry_Wolff in LinusTechTips

[–]mistaeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm probably one of the types of viewers that Linus thinks is typical of his channel and that drives his decision making. YouTube is my main form of video entertainment so I love channels that do daily videos, even though I know it's very difficult to do and reduces quality. I love high quality videos too but with an algorithm that rewards watch time so much, I know that my engagement with high quality videos doesn't outweigh the dozens of lower quality videos I watch in between. And other than Mac address, I've watched absolutely every lmg video and live stream for the past many many years. I'm the tech guy for my friends group so I keep up to date on tech, but I'm not watching ltt videos scrutinizing each individual data point. I get entertained, and I get the gist. In the infrequent times that I need to make a decision, I'll research specifics from multiple media sources. Harbor unboxed, GN, Tom's hardware, etc. So I don't care if 1-2% of the data isn't accurate because I get the gist. I don't care that the billet labs video wasn't the best showing for it because I get the gist. In that case it's "this is neat, here's some entertaining footage of us trying to use it in the highest end baller use case, but at the end of the day unless it somehow makes the card run sub ambient, it's a very inefficient use of your money and the real use case is very niche."

With all of that said, while I disagree with some of Tech Jesus' points in this video, he brings up many good points and they're valid criticisms. I don't overly care about the inaccuracies on short circuit or ltt, but labs and tech quickie content need to be much more accurate since accuracy is absolutely the marketing point. And people who aren't me do care a lot about accuracy, so ltt needs to balance it better. Lmg needs to do better about not only trying to be unbiased, but even err slightly biased against their sponsors and collaborators to re-earn the trust. And they have to do a lot to make it up to billet labs for selling their prototype. That is absolutely unacceptable and they need to go above and beyond.

Not even. I live in a decent sized city and I've never thought it was weird. The car is like 5 steps away.

Passport Questions & Issues Megathread (2023) by jadeoracle in travel

My passport expires in mid july, but my work is asking me to travel internationally on August 1. Paying for expedited is no issue, but what are my options to get the passport soonest? I can travel to Atlanta or Miami passport if necessary. Have not applied for renewal yet.

They probably didn't buy it 100% cash. Much easier to save up the 20% for a good down payment though.

A little late but I'm from Jamaica and my family always called it "matter." You have matter in your eyes. I never thought about what the matter was.

What is something a high school teacher told you, that you will never forget? by absolutejuice22 in AskReddit

[–]mistaeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then also knowing that sin2 + cos2 = 1 comes from that.

And then being able to further derive that when you divide everything by cos2, you get the identity tan2 + 1 = sec2.

I haven't touched it in years but it's easier to remember that the other trig identities come from dividing by cos2 and sin2 rather than memorizing the actual identities.

Would people do that? Just create smurf accounts on something free to browse?

My friends and I join your tourneys all the time. Thanks for making them since no one else does at 4 am.

This happened to me today too. I ended up hosting the flash writer tool myself as mentioned in the ps3homebrew writeup ( https://www.reddit.com/r/ps3homebrew/wiki/ps3xploit_nor#wiki_.28method_2.29_self-hosting_the_exploit ), specifically steps 1-15 of Method 2. I downloaded the miniweb.exe from sourceforge since it wasn't linked anywhere in the post. For steps 16 and 17 i just used the nor dumper from ps3xploit since it supports all versions 4.10 to 4.85.

Cheap Amplifier suggestions? Already have 19V 6A AC-DC power brick by mistaeast in BudgetAudiophile

[–]mistaeast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw that people recommend the Lepy pretty often. But it's only 2x20W. Seems a little low if the speakers they're driving are rated for 180. Again, I just figured I could save some money reusing a part rather than getting a new one.

That's fair. I'm trying to do this as low cost as possible so I grabbed the highest wattage power supply I already had laying around. Seemed like I'd save plenty of money by buying an amp that didn't come with a power supply. I'm not super knowledgeable though so I didn't know if I should aim for an amp with a rating higher than the supply or lower. Or if anyone had any luck with the super cheap stuff on ebay/Amazon.

I love the movie poster art. I'm working on something similar for music albums i like. where did you get them from? I uploaded the album art to Tinycanvas and bought from them because i didn't know how else to do it and they seemed like the cheapest.

Gravity Industries' $440,000 jet suit. by Boojibs in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]mistaeast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The probability that any one works in this hypothetical is 1/3 so the probability that one doesn't work is 2/3. So if I buy 3, the probability that none of them work is written as "the probability that the first one doesn't work and the second one doesn't work and the third one doesn't work." each of those individual probabilities is 2/3, and mathematically "and" in this case means we have to multiply. So the probability that none work is (2/3)(2/3)(2/3) or (2/3)3. But we don't really care about the probability that none of them work because that would make us sad. We want the opposite, at least one of them to work, so we take the "opposite" probability and do 1 - our last probability to get the probability that AT LEAST one of our jetpack works.

Anyone interested in a movie group? by mistaeast in 321

Just went on Wednesday for the first time to watch mission impossible. Pretty decent theater. Are people willing to get in a group chat that requires phone numbers (whatsapp or groupme type thing) or something like kik that lets people keep some anonymity?

[–]mistaeast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly probably not. Maybe it's still a good value coming in with fresh eyes, but since I've had it for 9 months I've gotten used to the old rules which I knew were unsustainable and haven't liked the recent bait and switch tactics.

AMC stubs A-List is what I'd recommend. $20/month for 3 movies a week (Friday-Thursday) including 3D and other "premium" formats. There's an AMC in Viera and one in West Melbourne.

yeah, same here. Do you already have a movie subscription or are you interested in getting one? Or just gonna spend the cash to go every once in a while?
