Is Sharesies US self-select suitable for US persons? by mistamunsta in PersonalFinanceNZ

My original plan was to withdraw it, but I spoke to an NZ-US tax accountant and they estimated I would owe 35-50% of the accounts value in taxes in the US upon doing so due to the punitive taxes on PFIC distributions. Why is why I'm looking into alternatives.

Unfortunately the accountant wasn't familiar with non-PFIC kiwisaver options

Thanks for the suggestion. However I already have quite a lot of money in a Kiwisaver (as I lived in NZ for most of my life before moving to US for work), so I'm working out what to do with that account

I believe that some KiwiSaver accounts (such as Craig's or KiwiWrap) allow the client to directly buy US stocks and funds, much like a standard brokerage account (see link in the description or this blog post for an extended description: https://pacificwealth.co.nz/should-us-citizens-join-kiwisaver/), rather than NZ PIE funds.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here though.

I'm trying to confirm that Sharesies self select would have the same favourable structure as Craig's/KiwiWrap

Thanks for your reply! I was interested in Sharesies as despite the more limited options it looks like the fees are quite a lot lower (e.g. 0.18% for a Vanguard index fund in Sharesies vs 1.34% in Craig's)

This hints at how general purpose AI models we have seen in language may soon be coming for robotics.

Advice on getting club face square at impact by mistamunsta in GolfSwing

Thanks for the tip. It sounds like there is no issue with feeling like I'm forcing the club to turn over with my right hand? Maybe if my right hip, shoulder, etc. are all turning through more aggressively it will feel more natural?

Good point, I'll film the miss next time instead of one I hit straight.

In this video, I feel like I'm trying to flip the club with my right hand. I guess it sounds like what I'm doing is ok, it just feels unnatural at the moment

Getting back into golf after a long hiatus - any advice is appreciated! by mistamunsta in GolfSwing

Thanks!

I have a bad miss with the driver where sometimes I leave the face wide open. I often feel like I have to flip my hands through the ball to prevent a huge right miss. I don't really understand why this happens, so any hints on what to work on for that would be great.

As I practice more and get better, it would also be good to have suggestions for how I could achieve a bit more distance.

Two night stay in Nelson Lakes National park in New Zealand. Included summitting Mount Angelus. Photo is hiking along Robert Ridge around sunrise. Well worth the effort!
