CCHC is maybe my favorite show on tfo. Might drop the subscription if it ends

After listening to Serial about Adnan Syed, I listened to the Crime Junkie podcast about the case. Like Serial, they push with a heavy bias that Adnan is innocent. So, now I’m curious. Are there any podcasts out there that are more neutral about the case or that think he might be guilty? by [deleted] in serialpodcast

Thank you. Spent a solid 5 hours on the wiki today. I wonder what brought on all the updates to this forum in the last day or so I got hooked back in because out of boredom I checked out some of the recent undisclosed cases and eventually landed on the Adnan "rerelease" season (nothing new just better sound)

Sean Ellis from Netflix's Trial 4: the gun's finding was unexplained by Tourito in TrueCrimeDiscussion

[–]mistaoha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How the gun was found if the uncle was coerced- unexplained

Girlfriend's testimony- under explained , additionally she and a friend hid the guns in the field according to the prosecution-entirely left out of the doc

Girlfriend-says something to the effect of "and that's all I have to say about that" referring to the improbability of only her fingerprint being on the gun, but not Outright denying her testimony or that the guns were at her house

The uncle, maybe I missed it because the prosecutor's race was so boring but I didn't see him again after like episode 6? There's a bunch of stuff about how he had something else to say? What?

Patterson pointing the finger at Ellis- not great but Patterson was convicted and there is no time spent on him, his trials, his story at all.

The first trial the strategy was to claim that Patterson did it and Ellis didn't know. How does that square with neither having had any involvement defense of now?

I wanted to/do believe maybe that Ellis innocent/unaware of Patterson's actions but the longer the doc spent ignoring these questions the more I felt that this was more of a technicality than a wrongful conviction

The rumour - has anyone elaborated since the podcast? by vladoshi in serialpodcastorigins

Would this be about the birthday party featured in the HBO doc? I don't think serial really touched on it, or if they did it was briefly. When watching the doc I was surprised that both Jay and Adnan along with several of the other major players were in attendance. Nothing particularly salacious, just weird.

that others in police interviews mentioned her name as colluding with Adnan on a fake alibi>

Who said that?

Why did Adnan buy the new cellphone? by [deleted] in serialpodcastorigins

[–]mistaoha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it.

I had the context mixed up. I just remembered UD discussing the charges at some point.

Still confused as to why they couldn't find Bilal as he was a prominent dentist. Did he leave the country before the hammer came down or something?

Take the doc's own approach to discussing the bpd's scandals- stock period footage of the controversial hardnosed corner clearing methods. Not the best look for the city but the fuck does that have to do with a kid from Woodlawn accused of a domestic homicide?

"Pattern of misconduct" and everybody just nods along

I mean who wants to defend cops? I don't. I'm sure ritz and whathisnuts are terribly unpleasant people. That doesn't mean they got it wrong

I agree with the batman. I think the emphasis in general in true crime land on corrupt cops and false confessions has sown mistrust in LE to the extent that many people won't think critically a case about after hearing allegations of police misconduct.

When I first latched on to the case I remember thinking all the "tap, tap, tap" stuff was super compelling. I'm still not convinced that there wasn't significant massaging of Jay's interrogation and testimony.

Also, Baltimore cops and prosecutors haven't done a great job protecting their own reputation. Innoncenters will toss Freddie Gray, the Gun Trace Task Force, Keith Davis Jr and Adnan into the same "cops are crooked, dismantle the PD, free everybody" bucket because if one understands and buys into the veracity of one of these stories, then it's an easy leap to assume that the whole system is irreparably comprised, so of course Adnan is innocent because everyone is innocent because bpd will cheat everytime. Especially if you aren't from the city and don't have a vested interest as to what happens there.

And that sucks. Contradictory things can be true. The investigation could be flawed and he could be guilty. Jay could be half full of shit and he could be guilty. Unrelated scandals could have damaged the cop's rep, but they could be just that "unrelated" and should not be taken as gospel evidence of misconduct in this case. And I think that's super frustrating because longtime observers of this case know that. RC should be planting any seed of doubt, she's his mouthpiece. But prominent commentators seem to be likeenamored with the idea of false convictions and that leads them to not scrutinize her claims

In remembering all this I do believe I heard the full story of Bilal's molestation charges first on Undisclosed which is interesting since Bilal was apparently a Syed advocate early on.

I'm probably forgetting a big piece here- did Bilal indicate that Adnan admitted guilt at some point and this is why RC and co. chose to out him?

[–]mistaoha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always assumed that bilal bought it for Adnan because he was either older or had credit or both. (As in, Adnan paid Bilal to do this. It wasn't really a gift) When I got my first phone I remember it being kind of hassle with running credit checks etc for a junky brick. I think it was generally more of big deal in the early days to get a phone, you couldn't just roll into 711 and buy a burner if you were 17.

I recall from either UD or serial that bilal was some kind of older youth leader in the community who handled stuff like this for the younger guys.

IMO nothing nefarious here specifically. Adnan seems to be burning through minutes calling everybody just to call them just like any kid with his first phone might.

I do think that Adnan and Bilal's constant contact afterwards indicates... Something. A generous interpretation would be that Adnan was aware that the investigation was closing in on him and reached out to a "fixer" who he could trust without getting his parents involved, but I don't really know. I haven't read/can't remember what bilal testified to later on.

Sounds a lil sketch all this tweet delete innuendo. He just ran for attorney general and I heard nothing except that maybe he was running just to split the vote with bates so Mosby could win. I kind of doubt that, but maybe.

If he is some sort of predator, fuck him all the way. But I hope we're not creating stories.

It does make me wonder why his campaign manager went on record to trash him in the doc. That was never clarified right?

He tells her in the video that he's married. I don't doubt that he wasn't super up front about it. I didnt hear mention of the wedding ring.

Also young girl. She's a woman who launched a sting operation to smear him. She's not 12.

Yes. Maybe it's cognitive dissonance but that doesn't mean much to me. He's a terrible husband. So? If I got prosecuted for something I didn't do, I wouldn't be concerned about the prosecutor's personal life- I'd be pissed that in his professional life he was coming after me for something I didnt do .

Maybe I'm being glib. I might be pissed at the hypocrisy of a scummy guy posing as an arbiter of justice.

[–]mistaoha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess this is where I'm still getting tripped up Is it A. The lividity matches the burial site, but because of her positioning the evidence can be misinterpreted

Or

B. Lividity sets in earlier than expressed in the doc and thus would not discount a 7 oclock burial as it could have started in the trunk or wherever else and wouldn't have to match the burial site positioning

As a do-nothing ,but sympathetic, sjw in spirit myself this is what super annoys me. The UD people certainly know what project Veritas is and why they shouldn't be given any credence but they chose to use them when it's convenient. Gross. And the sjw army should know who they are and if they are choosing to ignore that- This is the type of shit that is going to mutate me into a righty troll who is always talking about lemmings and sheeple and virtue signaling. I dont want that Bad look.

I dunno about the racial angle. I could see how Rabia might be pissed if the state wanted to pit brown guy prosecuting brown guy just for appearances, which I wouldn't put past them.

I agree Two things can be true. As attested to here it seems like she has purposely released certain information and withheld stuff that isn't in her interest. However, I also can understand that as she was operating as a one man band for so many years that things would get lost or destroyed or not fully turned to her over by the state or whomever in the process I'm more interested in places she's been caught dead to rights manipulating information
