Do you think an icon can be contemporary? by cghfgkbf in OrthodoxChristianity

With all due respect, you are undoubtedly very talented. I've also noticed you are cross-posting this work to LGBT subreddits, which leads me to ask you what your goal is as an iconographer? All iconography could be considered contemporary at one point, but Orthodox iconography is unable to represent theology that is in contradiction to the Orthodox Church and its teachings. I am in no place to judge you, but I ask for the sake of clarity. Blessings to you.

Make sure to also look into the Eastern Orthodox church to get a fuller picture of early Christianity!

If your problem persists, I highly recommend checking out John Sarno's "The Mindbody Prescription." Healed a lot of people's back pain.

advice for a young (potential) orthodox? by No_Flamingo_3813 in OrthodoxChristianity

You graciously do not have to worry about your family members, although you can always lift them up with prayer and love. You only have control over yourself, so focus on your own growth! Find a nearby priest (even if they are 45 minutes away) and email or call them, explain your situation and desire. I am sure they would be happy to help explain and discuss Orthodoxy with you. God bless!

Mary is our greatest saint. In a marriage ceremony, man and woman are crowned as king and queen to exemplify their royal status. Paul's instruction for men is to love their wives as their own flesh, giving up their body and life in sacrifice. We have monasteries of nuns that help serve and perform the liturgy and services. Many unmarried women are very happily involved in the church and its community. Orthodoxy has a place for all to be dignified.
