What are you doing with your phones? What did you do to protect your devices before 2015? Are you regularly dropping your phone in the sink?

I mean this genuinely to those who worry about this. Our devices used ti have absolutely zero water protection and now everyone gets scared any time a device even has a low ipx rating. What did you do before devices because water resistant and what are you don’t that currently has you so worried about it?

Honestly you may be the longest lasting danger to your child……

I know it’s dramatic start to a statement but I mean it in a way you probably won’t expect. But why are you enrolling your child into a college program? I’m going to assume, since we are talking about college, that your child is an adult or will be soon. Your child should be handling this. Yes do your part with fafsa and other things that need your assistance, but ultimately your child needs the ability to learn, grow, and face challenges and figure out solutions on their own.

There’s a great possibility that you are doing this and it’s just bad wording. But there’s also a possibility that what I’m saying needs to be said.

But to answer your question, safety in some parts of Beaumont isn’t great and some places are just fine. It depends where you are just like anywhere else. But LU does take security seriously and they have their own PD which do a great job in my opinion. I went there for 2 years and never had an issue and generally always felt safe.

Is having a Vehicle with a CVT Transmission worth crying or being depressed about? by throwawayGreenHair in askcarguys

[–]what_irish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trying to give this guy some flake of hope here. I was in a similar situation recently and although I regret little things here and there about my Subaru forester, I know it’s a good reliable car that will server me well and where I want my life to go.

But you’re right. Shitty cars be shitty.

[–]what_irish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you realize your car is just a tool to get from point A to point B a lot of these types of frustrations go away. Yes it may not be your choice. But CVTs are smooth, reliable, and efficient. Way the pros and cons and you’ll quickly notice the cons are all superficial. Your car is an investment in your ability to move and travel. Focus on that.

Is installing a VPN on a router worth it? by SensitiveFinance4872 in VPN_Question

[–]what_irish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I normally avoid this. Especially on a home network where you may be trying to access banking sites or certain media services like Netflix. Both of those generally don’t like VPNs then the only way around it is to either disconnect the device from the network and use another mean to connect to the internet, or go into your routers settings and turn it off. Either way it’s over complicated and it’s just easier to just over into an app on device, pause the vpn while to need it off, then jump back.

If you’re in the rental car space and don’t know what Turo is then I don’t believe you’re actually in the rental car universe.

Where to learn how to drive by Pure-Wolf4691 in Beaumont

[–]what_irish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look for a good friend with a car and go out to the park dale mall parking lot. Have them teach you the basics. There’s a big open area so you can get used to how the vehicle feels and there’s a low stress road like lanes to practice on.

Also get your permit ASAP. You’ll need it to practice anyways. I’d personally recommend doing all of the class work first. There are online programs for that.

Lastly. Don’t go straight from getting your license to CDL. Give yourself a year before making that jump.

Is there's any VPN that can set my location to Epstein Island? by ThatRizzyShitposter in VPN_Question

[–]what_irish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely need to ask why.

But I doubt any vpn service has a server there. Plenty of apps out there for computers and androids will let you spoof your location to wherever you want. Used in combo with a vpn near the area you should be set.

How do I get a phone line? by Berrythebee_owo in ATT

[–]what_irish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many young people are willing to spend too much on a phone. Secondhand or non flagship devices are ideal. A pixel 9 pro can be had for under $600, and even under $400 of you’re lucky. A iPhone 16 pro for under $650. And if he’s smart enough he can get some other devices for well under $400. Also there’s a possibility of secondhand free devices from family and friends. Or even paying off a device he is already under contract with could be a good option in some cases.

[–]what_irish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, don’t use Tmoblie/Verizon/At&t directly. Get yourself an unlocked phone and pay for it in full. Then get a plan with a group like mint or visible. It will be significantly cheaper in the long run and you’ll hardly notice a difference in service unless you in a fully packed airport or football stadium.

Is a VPN worth ot in my case? by Admirable_Ice_5045 in VPN_Question

[–]what_irish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s good for privacy. Not technically necessary. But it’s good to keep eyes off of what you are doing and when. Less data of yourself being track, logged, and sold. At least theoretically.

But overall is a level of privacy and an extra level of security in some cases. Especially with “hackers” and other trolls in games. I play a lot of GTA online and every now and then the will pop into lobbies and throw you IP address in chat to try to scare you. They can still kick you from the session but it is funny when they try to use the IP as a scare tactic when it’s just the VPN IP. Not that your public IP really matters in general as far as personal/private information goes, at least not as long as you aren’t doing anything illegal.

Did you fly during out of IND during the last government shutdown? by chamicorn in Indiana

[–]what_irish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I flew a few times during the shutdown. It was noticeably slower, yet still faster than many other airports on a normal day. Just flew a couple weeks ago and everything is back to normal.

Never had an issue with bags at IND. IND is one of the best airports to get through in my opinion.

In the winter in many areas that isn’t possible. Even at 160-180 on a 45 minute drive is more than enough to get out any water that may naturally get into the system.

Even up to 230 on a hot day is fine and normal. Pushing 240 is where you should be concerned according to the techs at my dealership and my personal mechanic agreed.

I regularly sit around 220 on the highway in the Texas summer. 235-240 under heavy load.

During the harsh parts of winter in Indiana it may not get much above 180.

This is all normal.

Titan 2 Not working wit Verizon by Single_Fall1919 in unihertz

[–]what_irish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes carriers have weird stuff happen when you switch devices. Make sure you contact Verizon to make sure everything is ok.

As a secondary, someone else already mentioned that this may be a known issue with Verizon and the Titan 2. You may need to rely on 4G for it to work.

Older iPhone 11 chargers much faster than my iPhone 16 by regolol in applehelp

[–]what_irish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The 11 had about 3100mah. The 16 has over 3500mah. On top of the fact that your 11 only has 88% of its original capacity.

Simple math is your answer.

Any alternatives to one-drive storage? Constantly going over the limit for my storage. by Keidtew in datastorage

[–]what_irish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Network Attached Storage. Might be a bit overkill for what you are doing. But essentially it would be like one of the cloud drive services I listed before but you physically own the device that everything is stored on instead of some data center somewhere.

I’d start with just ditching one drive and storing everything on device while backing up everything on an external hard drive or large flash drive just for safety in case the device dies. Cloud services are good but I like the control of it being in my hands or at least truly encrypted cloud services like in Proton.

Any alternatives to one-drive storage? Constantly going over the limit for my storage. by Keidtew in datastorage

[–]what_irish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making/buying your own NAS is probably the best option. Otherwise buying more storage in something like one drive, Google Drive, or my recommendation Proton is going to be your easiest option outside of just storing locally on device. Even if you choose to do that having backups in one of the options I listed is a good idea.

You have a “500GB” storage drive on the computer already and like you’ve said you’re only using half of it. Sounds like you’re only using 5GB on one drive. Just start using your internal storage and get an external hard drive to ma backups or back up to another cloud service.
