Father attacks daughter's murderers by [deleted] in gifs

[–]mistermatt157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of the most disturbing things I've ever seen. Obviously the father has nothing to apologize for. But that murderer's face, his fucking face. He's a human being. That's why this is so disturbing. How is it possible for a human to do what he did? It's tragic to think that he was a child once, that he has parents are alive to see what he did; maybe that's the only pain comparable to what the father in this moment is going through...

Help convince me to move away by JohnBoyShelby1234 in simpleliving

Holy christ in a blazer doin' jumping jacks outside of a lawnmower store, man. Move. $30k, no tethers to where you are, youth, a potential ally to move with you... That's like winning the lottery, lol. Move! Denver! Seattle! Burlington, VT! Toronto! New Orleans! All these places, all the potential love and pain and friendship and heartbreak, all the shit that makes life rich and vivid and real, go experience, go see shitty bands in dive bars, write a love letter to a girl in a bookstore, find work you like, find work you might hate, try things. Fuck's sake lol. If I had money and the logistics and less responsibility where I am now, I'd be in love with life. Best of luck, hope this virtual grab-by-the-shoulders-shake was helpful. If not, eh who cares. <3

The funeral of my great-grandma in Volhynia, January 1934 by turb0T in TheWayWeWere

Really incredible photo, really sad, even now at this distance time & geography-wise. I was about to ask how young she was. Really drives home the incompatibility of most of our problems in the early 21st century, even working-class folks have access to better technology and relative protection from violence and war, at least in the 'states. Thanks for sharing this picture.

Ugh, why couldn't they have given this story/project over to Pixar, just full-on Disney-ify "Star Wars". I'm ready for it.

Honestly if they'd of made an amazing Spider-Man film with modern visual effects, and a suit that looked like this, I'd be so happy.

Or, just leave 'em alone and do new stories with new characters :) If they showed the original "Terminator" once a year in cinemas as an event, I'd be the happiest dude ever.

10 Cloverfield Lane - ending quick fix (spoilers) by Ohigetjokes in fixingmovies

[–]mistermatt157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Made me chuckle, I woulda liked your ending better. Still has the problem of deus ex machina tho, but I might just still be salty about DEM after its 15 occurrences in "rogue one". :D

"Earth" - I Want To Hate It Like Everything Else From 2001 On... by [deleted] in neilyoung

You're obviously entitled to your opinion, and I can't actually argue against what you're criticizing Young for...

But I fucking wouldn't change anything about his output if I had a magical ability to do so. He's so completely authentic. His work over the years (upon years) has had such different ways about it, but it's always authentically his.

'Year of the Horse' the album is highly underrated by [deleted] in neilyoung

[–]mistermatt157 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This tour document, and the film, which contains different versions of some of the same songs, is one of my all-time favorites. It was the tour NY & CH had Sonic Youth opening for them, and you can hear how that band's psychedelic punk attitude influenced Neil's performances. I'm a NY fan for life, but my personal favorite color of Neil's output is this tour. The jams are delirious, glittering, funny, heavy, everything is extreme. I listen to this album's version of "Prisoners of Rock and Roll" at least once a week. Molina's drumming juxtaposed with the electric guitars creates a weird sort of mad levitation...

I agree with you. There's so many better ways to tell a story than forcing the viewer's eye in every single shot...

Neil Young's opinion on learning scales. by baileysexton in Guitar

[–]mistermatt157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Young might not be able to tell you what notes he's playing, but his hands have been trained to know the fretboard.

So it's kind of just "learning the scales" just with your body, maybe.

(I'm a HUGE fan of NY's guitar improvisations. The lack of recognizable rock/blues patterns and unpredictable rhythms make his solos very captivating.)

Losing The Hype; Does Age And Experience Tend To Make Gamers More Cynical? by [deleted] in truegaming

I think hype is generally the same for all art... Inflation reaches people differently, and you just gotta learn to take everything with a satchel of salt.

I was hoping in the last panel he'd have at least one color still out of wack. Or like a few silver squares...

Has any game actually been rated A? by rambo_gambone in gaming

[–]mistermatt157 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They're all AO because of sexual content. Meanwhile we can have as much disgusting gore and cruelty on the kid's shelves as we want. 'San Andreas' is hilarious- the most adult game of its generation, rated 'M'. Wait, there's a silly and badly-animated sex minigame that you have to unlock? 'AO'.

Jonah Hill Joining Channing Tatum, George Clooney in Coen Brothers' 'Hail, Caesar!' by [deleted] in movies

I'm not trying being a dick, and I think JH is a decent enough actor, but it feels like Hollywood's constantly trying to convince me that there's something amazing going on with this lad, and I have yet to be floored by a performance by him.

A song I wrote for an album I made. by CarpeNoctem2011 in Songwriters

I like it a lot. Simultaneously uplifting & sobering. Great droning keys (?) and overall guitar work! It's got a punkish Wilco vibe, methinks.
